4 Treasurer s Report 2016 The financial report for the Year Ended 30 June 2016 shows that while income earned from new memberships and membership renewals was very low ($120), the sale of merchandise continues to provide valuable funds (Net $3051). The sale of the Scholarship Club tickets throughout the year and in particular at the Reindeer Regatta was very good, enabling seven scholarships to be awarded this year. In particular, a sincere thank you goes to Eric Carter who donated $1250 to the Scholarship Club and John Boultbee who won the Scholarship Club draw but donated the $1000 winnings back to the Scholarship Club. Following the horrific storms in Tasmania in June this year which all but destroyed Tamar Rowing Club, the Executive agreed to donate $1000 to the Australian Sports Foundation for the benefit to Tamar Rowing Club to assist in the rebuilding of their club. The accounts have been audited, with no issues being raised. I thank our honorary auditor, Simon Croot, for again completing the audit.

5 ARCHIVES REPORT No new material was accessed during the Year, however a Subcommittee was established comprising Messrs Moynahan, Jameson, Petrin and Titterton to follow up on the objectives established last year. As a result of the three meetings held, part of the archive material has been moved to Louis Petrins warehouse in Gladesville, and this material and Louis collection of Rowing Memorabilia was shown to the Membership in May. Our immediate priority is to consolidate all material at Gladesville, and then prepare it for electronic cataloging. YOUTH DEVELOPMENT AWARDS One of the most significant activities of the Union of Rowers is the support given to promising young athletes each year, through scholarship awards of $ each This year seven scholarships were awarded to two young oarswomen and five oarsmen at the 2016 Rowing NSW Awards Dinner. They are in alpha order: 1. Olivia Bartram: Aged 17 years and attends Year 12 at Loreto Normanhurst. Won Gold in the U/21 Double and Silver in the U/21 Quad at National as well as Silver in the National Schoolgirl event. She is currently the State Schoolgirl Champion Sculler and was a member of the Normanhurst first Eight. Olivia s 2015/2016 season saw many wins in a various boat classes at Association/Club/School Regattas. 2. Pasha Bevan: Aged 17 years attends Shore School and is a member of Sydney Rowing Club, under coach Lachlan Carter. Pasha was stroke of the Shore first Eight which won both the National and State Title. This eight was successful at the Lake Karapiro Christmas Regatta in New Zealand; the Riverview Gold Cup but success in Doubles and Quads saw his introduction into the NSW Institute of Sport programs. He has been selected for the Australian Men s Quad at the 2016 Junior World Championships. 3. Marcus Britt: Aged 18 years formerly a student at St Josephs College Hunters Hill and the 2015 winning First Eight. Now with the Sydney University Boat Club he won Gold in the Men s U/19 Pair and Four events at Nationals and following the recent Junior Team Selection Trials, will compete for Australia at the 2016 Junior World Rowing Championships in the Netherlands, in the U/19 Men s Coxed Four. 4. Harry Crouch: Aged 16 from Condobolin NSW and attends Kinross Wolaroi School at Orange. Won Silver in the National U/17 Coxed Quad and Bronze in the U/18 Coxed Four. The State Championships provided Gold in the U/17 Single, coxed Quad and Under 19 Coxed Four. As a sprinter at the State Championships took Gold in both the Singles and Doubles. 5. Matthew Curtin: Aged 19 years and is a member of UTS Rowing Club. Achieved Gold in both the Under 23 Lightweight Double and Interstate Youth Men s Eight and Silver in the

6 Lightweight Quad at Nationals. Gold in both the U/21 Lightweight Sculls and Elite Lightweight Quad at State Championships as well as a seat in the successful NSW Interstate Youth Eight and selection in the Australian Representative U/21 Team. 6. Harriet Hudson: Aged 18 years from Sydney Rowing Club under Coach Donovan Cech and undertaking a Bachelor of Health Science Degree at Sydney University. Harriet is the National Champion U/19 Single Sculls and shared Gold at Nationals in the U/19 Women s Double, Quad and Eight, Sydney Club Women s Eight. At State she is the U/19 Champion and was a medallist in other crew events. Harriet has been selected as the Australian Junior Women s Sculler to compete at the Junior World Championships in the Netherlands. 7. Charles Patterson: Aged 20 years and a member of Sydney Rowing Club under coach Lachlan Carter works part time and is a member of the Australian Army Reserve. Gold at Nationals in the NSW Interstate Youth Eight, U/21 Quad, U/21 Double and Silver medallist in the Single followed a stack of silvers at the State Championships in the U/21 Category. With a view to selection in the U/23 Category 2017, he competed for Sydney Rowing Club at the Henley Regatta in the Club Eights. MERCHANDISING REPORT Our LED navigation lights have continued to be very popular with 46 being sold to 30 th June with a sales value of $ 1, We have been out of stock for three months and have been recently resupplied for the coming season and our back orders have been delivered. Shoe sales continue with 57 pairs sold with a sales value of $ 2, The incoming committee should consider reordering the Union neck ties. The Union s finances are augmented by our merchandising activities (see the financial statement). Two Come Forward newsletters were produced and circulated, as well as Group s to update members. The 2015 Youth Development Fundraiser was won by John Boultbee who generously donated the prize to future Scholarships; the 2016 Club remains open, with the draw scheduled for the NSW Reindeer Regatta in December.
