3 FROM THE DIRECTORS.. FROM THE My first thought as I assume the responsibilities of director of F-troop is to express my personal thanks to GARY & COLLEEN STOUT, past chapter directors. This couple has given of themselves quite unsefishly. My hope is that in the future we will be fortunate enough to have other leaders come from amongst our ranks, as this duo has! Another pair to measure ourselves with, BILL & JOANN HITT. JoAnn has stepped down as treasurer. She has assured me that they will be always be F-troopers at heart, but it is time for new blood in JoAnn s words. JoAnn will certainly continue to carry out the road clean-up program, which we will support whole heartily. She also requested to fill the Sunshine position and I was very grateful for her request. Thanks once again Hitt's. JIM & CHERI KRYLOWICZ. Jim has filled our gap in educating for two terms. He has probably learned as much as any of us, Jim knows now, that adults may be very difficult to lead to water, to this I wish Richard Good Luck! Cheri is quite consumed these days with family & healing. Jim appears to be recovering from his bike accident but likely has some distance to go in order to be 100%. Best wishes to both of them! And thank you for everything. Also hope to see you back on the bike soon. Last but far from the least, I wish to acknowledge GREGG MORIARTY & DEBBIE JOSEPHSON for their commitment to the ride committee. SCOTT & KELLI HESTER for their contributions to the newsletter effort. These two couples are continuing into the next year in their respective positions. CARM & SUE LETRICH will join the staff in helping the ride committee. Thanks to all. Ok now the new business. The new staff mostly complete is: Chapter Directors Jerome & Rocky Bye Assistant Directors Gary & Colleen Stout Treasurer / 50/50 Colleen Stout Educator Directors Richard & Sandy Callihan Event/Ride Director Gregg Moriarty Webmaster Gary Stout Newsletter Editor Scott & Kelli Hester Sunshine Bill & JoAnn Hitt Helping Hands Directors Bob & Sandy Howell Historian George & Jacque Ross Open Positions: Quartermaster (If someone would be interested in this position, please let me know. ) As for the future, I look to the entire troop for any ideas, this thought covers all areas: events, rides, fundraising, etc. I believe the most basic of pursuits should always remain to be the ride. To this all I can say is lets get out and use those Gold Wings, Harleys, etc. most of us own. I feel the participation level could use a boost. Even though we have some very chilly mornings in winter and rather hot days in summer, I am certain we still have some of the better opportunities for rides. To this, I hope to hear from any of you guys and gals that have ride destinations or events for future schedule consideration. We are starting the fourth year with the GWTA. Lots of our group has already renewed their memberships. I am encouraging everyone to do this as your membership comes due. We ll have to consider possible region events, likely California or Nevada as they are closer. Also, maybe Billings this coming summer for those up to a longer ride and good time. Last but definitely not least, the chapter well be hearing from the Educator. After he finds out what your interest is, RICHARD CALLIHAN will set up some training for us. I personally expressed to Richard that I would like to see everyone on a bike be confident and comfortable with their riding and rider abilities. JoAnn is going to give CPR training soon. If interested, sign up before the list is filled. Until next time, ride safe. Yeah F-troop CHAPTER DIRECTORS Jerome & Rocky Bye

5 KO-RIDER S KORNER. Biker s Zen [Wise Words from the Road] BY...SANDY CALLIHAN Four wheels move the body. Two wheels move the soul. Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut that connects the handlebars to the saddle. Life may begin at 40, but it doesn t get real interesting until about 100 mph! You start the game of life with a full pot o luck and an empty pot o experience The object is to fill the pot of experience before you empty the pot of luck. If you wait, all that happens is that you get older. Midnight bugs taste best. Saddlebags can never hold everything you want, but they CAN hold everything you need. Never try to race an old geezer, he many have one more gear than you. It takes more love to share the saddle than it does to share the bed. The only good view of a thunderstorm is in your rearview mirror. Never be afraid to slow down. Don t ride so late into the night that you sleep through the sunrise. Sometimes it takes a whole tank full of fuel before you can think straight. Riding faster than everyone else only guarantees you ll ride alone. Never hesitate to ride past the last street light at the edge of town. Never do less than 40 miles before breakfast. If you don t ride in the rain, you don t ride. A bike on the road is worth two in the shed. Respect the person who has seen the dark side of motorcycling and lived. Young riders pick a destination and go Old riders pick a direction and go. A good mechanic will let you watch without charging you for it. Sometimes the fastest way to get there is to stop for the night. Always back your bikes into the curb, and sit where you can see it. Work to ride and ride to work. Whatever it is, it s better in the wind. Two-lane blacktop isn t a highway it s an attitude. When you look down the road, it seems to never end but you better believe it does. Winter is Nature s way of telling you to polish. Keep your bike in good repair: Motorcycle boots are NOT comfortable for walking. People are like Motorcycles: each is customized a bit differently. Sometimes, the best communication happens when you re on separate bikes. Good coffee should be indistinguishable from 50 weight motor oil. The best alarm clock is sunshine on chrome. The twisties not the super slabs separate the riders from the squids. When you re riding the lead, don t spit. A friend is someone who ll get out of bed at 2 am to drive his pickup to the middle of nowhere to get you when you re broken down. Catching a yellow jacket in your shirt at 70 mph can double your vocabulary. If you want to get somewhere before sundown, you can t stop at every tavern. There s something ugly about a NEW bike on a trailer. Don t lead the pack if you don t know where you re going. Practice wrenching on your own bike. Everyone crashes. Some get back on. Some don t. Some can t. Don t argue with an 18-wheeler. Never be ashamed to unlearn an old habit. A good ride can clear your mind, restore your faith, and use up a lot of fuel. If you can t get it going with bungee cords and electrician s tape, it s serious. If you ride like there s no tomorrow, there won t be. Gray-haired riders don t get that way from pure luck. There are drunk riders. There are old riders. There are NO old, drunk riders. Thins leather looks good in the bar, but it won t save your butt from road rash if you go own. The best modifications cannot be seen from the outside. Always replace the cheapest parts first. You can forget what you do for a living when your knees are in the breeze. Only a biker knows why a dog sticks his head out of a car window. There are two types of people in this world, people who ride motorcycles, and people who wish they could ride motorcycles. It is good to have an end to journey towards; but it is the journey that matters in the end.
6 RIDER EDUCATION.. ASSAULT ON TORTILLA FLATS A frontal assault was carried out on Tortilla Flats on 1 Jan Stealth was the plan but a few of the bikes forgot to put on baffles announcing the strike about a half mile out. The sun was just peeking over the mountain, the temperature was about 45 degrees and only a few indigenous folks were milling about when the group struck. Fourteen steeds of steel carrying 23 souls pounced on the little town with the demand of excellent food and hot coffee. Rear guard (Neal K. & Marilyn S.) arrived shortly after the initial strike. The co-riders had the mission of counting the curves from a posted 25 mph sign to the last curve before entering the sleepy hollow. Several riders had placed heavy money on the saddles as to would guess closes to the count. The count was between 81 and 129. Ever wonder why co-riders are in the back? The highest guess was 63 and therefore took the pot. The counter who had 129 ended with 125 curves on the egress route. After an hour the main holding force started arriving, signaling it was time for the initial attack force to depart. Another mission was accepted towards the west. A reconnaissance of the Globe and surrounding area was on tap. On departure to the south the lead element out ran the rear element and communications were broke. Riders were breaking ranks when the turn to the west was executed. I can only hope that a force was reformed and the mission was completed in true F-troop style. Members of the assault were Bill G., Bernie S., Mitch & Teresa P., Gary & Colleen S., Bob & Sandy H., Paul T., Jerome & Rocky B., Scott & Kelli H., Dave T., Carm, & Sue L., Al & Sandy S., Gregg M. & Deb J., Chuck A., and Richard & Sandy C. F-troop demonstrated they were ready for the new year 2008 and further assignments. Richard Callihan Educator
