4 Track/Club Updates The SW Committee plan on having updates from the clubs at every SW Committee meeting, in the plan on getting more involved and supporting the clubs. Bath: Now have a complete committee with a new chairperson (Duncan Cockburn), the focus for this year is to change/improve their starthill/gate. They feel like their membership numbers may have dropped due to loosing riders to the South region because of there riding up rules. Bideford: Have secured funding for a new start gate, they find out soon if they have secured more funding for their start hill and first straight improvements. Membership numbers are static and they have the Council on side with them. Bristol: Shall hopefully have their floodlights in at the end of the month, membership is in a loss due to a few going to the South Region, they have started gates on a Saturday morning and hopefully soon to have a BC BMX Coach getting local schools to the BMX Track to generate more numbers. Cornwall: Unfortunately were not successful with their new track, they have funding to move their café further back, have currently had issues with power so hoping to secure funding to fix that. They have new riders coming through from the School programmes and coaching days and planning on riding regionals and straight into expert as they are experienced from their club races, and had 1200 kids go through the School games programme using their track regularly. They hope to put the Transponder loops in in the future. Burnham: No club representative present, but the club is on the up with more volunteers and have some funding. Decoy: Sqorz/timing all installed and being used on a regular basis which is a very big positive and attracting many Elite riders, they host a separate time/data night (1st Wednesday of each month). Coaching is extremely busy, they are planning on doing a complete resurface, and tarmac 3 berms. They are planning on hosting a National in 2020 and are working very hard to make this happen, they plan on holding a open event as Exeter did to attract new riders. Cardiff: At the end of March they shall have funding confirmed and land to still be confirmed which shall hopefully be on Cardiff City Football grounds, they have funding to re-surface the pumptrack, members are training regularly together to build a good club basis. Exeter: The new track has received many positive reviews, and has encourages many new riders to travel down to the track. There are few volunteers working very hard at the track, they recently held an open day which attracted many new riders. They plan on doing more with the Transponder system to hopefully progress training. Tiverton: Few volunteers at the moment, static numbers with membership. Unfortunately a break in to the club house happened and their club gazebo got stolen, but they are very thankful to Decoy for fundraising for them to buy a new one. They have received 1000 Locality fund from the Council, and plan on doing repairs to the track, and thank Matt for his funding efforts. LLynfi: No Club Representative present. 11/03/2019 Page 4 of 6
5 Torbay: Membership is static, they have now signed their 25 year Lease, and have secured a new area of land, have floodlights being installed so they shall be able to extend their opening hours including a week night club night, and plan on installing more loops at the start of the second straight and the end of the second straight and encourage more pro riders to use their facility with an Elite night only. They have also secured Sponsorship from Bombshell/Avent which have supplied their new Club race jerseys for /2019 Wild West Winter Series A very big Thank you from the South West Committee to Rob Flavell and Lee Kirby for all their efforts with the Wild West Series, as well as a big Thank you to Anthony Martin for the great advertising and marketing and to all the volunteers and clubs who participated in anyway to make the series a great first year of success. On average there were 90 riders (all using and trialling our first full series on transponders!) South West Region Board Engagement Meeting This was held at The Kenn Centre, Kenn, with British Cycling representatives and many different cycling disciplines to gauge a rough idea as to were different disciplines are at. They discussed what was good/bad in the region and what was needed in the area, it was very well attended by BMX Clubs. British Cycling South West Cycling Delivery Manager, which is tailored for the region. He is currently compiling a list of need in the region, to work on a develop from. British Cycling Commission Update Nationals shall be Pre-Reg only for every round. Lisa Graham is working on a plan for each discipline, each discipline shall receive one and a regional plan. There are new National classes including; Female Cruiser, Grand Vets(50+/20 ), Master Women (30+/20 ), Junior Men. Transponders were discussed with the board and agreed to use them for the season, but due to a short timeline to get the logistics in place have been reconsidered for the 2020 National race season. If the British Championships can happen on transponders the BBC have agreed to film it for TV. British Cycling Funding British Cycling have brought out new funding which is Match funding. The criteria is all on the British Cycling website but a few of the criteria involves, 25 year lease signed, have to have an active development plan in place, small grants available. This is accessible now as Tiverton Bmx Club have flood light funding from it. 11/03/2019 Page 5 of 6
6 2019 British Championships One theme was suggested which was Carnival. Other themes for the 2019 race season will be greatly appreciated and can be sent to Kelly Ingledew. We are hoping to get some sponsorship/funding towards race jerseys and tshirts. Regional Coaching Send message out to clubs for Brits themes. Create private group on Facebook for SW club members to suggest theme ideas. Look for sponsorship for jerseys. (Torbay- Bombshell/Avent) Very successful first Development Centre with 33 riders attending. Good opportunities for riders to progress and practice coaching points at home, regular sessions are booked on a fortnightly basis. Other coaches are interested in becoming involved including Simon Harmer, Chris Taylor, Ethan Squibb and Barrie Green. AOB The Chief Commissaire raised an issue from Torbay Wild West race, about consistency with the commissaires and not every discrepancy was getting addressed as it should. For future races commissaires may get paired up to reeducate on all the rules and remind everyone of infringements. When entering for regional events, add an extra tick box to British Cycling website to say whether you have a transponder or not, this shall give us an indication as to how many we shall need for the day. Regional events shall be running on Sqorz system, rankings shall now run from the Sqorz scoring system which combines every race and result to give you your overall ranking rather than the BEM system which gives you your best 7/8 out of 10 rounds. So every round counts! NEXT MEETING: MONDAY 11 TH MARCH, 7PM, ELMORE FC TIVERTON Chief Commissaire to re-educate all commissaires. Add tick box for transponders on BC website registering page. Advertise change in scoring system on website/facebook Check Elmore is booked. 11/03/2019 Page 6 of 6
