3 WELCOME TO OGDEN! Welcome to Ogden, Utah, the Crossroads of the West! The Ogden/Weber Convention and Visitors Bureau is excited to serve host to USA Cycling athletes and fans with an experience that goes beyond the expected through the community s natural beauty, stimulating culture, and love-atfirst-sight appeal. The rich personality derives from a unique balance of downtown Ogden s vibrant shopping, dining, and nightlife with backyard access to year-round outdoor recreation and the majestic beauty of the Wasatch Mountain Range. Once a lawless frontier town teeming with largerthan-life legends and colorful characters (crime boss Al Capone himself was heard to comment that Ogden was too wild a town even for him), Ogden today is all about one thing: making you feel at home while setting the stage for genuine adventure. Ogden was incorporated as a city in 1851, making it the 3 rd incorporated city west of the Missouri River behind only San Francisco and Salt Lake City. Ogden is not your typical anything. Immerse yourself in the unique mountain to metro allure that makes this magnificent high adventure, natural playground the perfect travel destination for work, play, or a little bit of both. In just one day you can shop the eclectic boutiques and art galleries of Historic 25 th Street, plummet down a five-diamond backcountry bowl at Snowbasin Ski Resort, enjoy a sumptuous evening meal at a downtown restaurant, then settle in for a cozy evening in one of the many great hotels. Ogden s natural affinity to outdoor recreation and the community s support and passion for sports makes it the perfect destination for the 2012 USA Cycling Collegiate Road National Championships. Are you ready to take your cycling career to the next level? For the sixth consecutive year, the Collegiate All- Stars will be competing in the Nature Valley Grand Prix, June 13-17, in Minnesota and Wisconsin. The Collegiate All-Stars is a team of the top six women in collegiate cycling, selected from the final Individual Omnium standings at the 2012 USA Cycling Collegiate Road National Championships in Ogden, Utah. How to qualify: the top three women in the Division I and Division II Individual Omniums, who aren t already on a team going to the Nature Valley Grand Prix, will be invited to join the team. Only one qualifying woman per college team will be invited and invitees must have a USAC Road category 1 or 2 license before Friday, May 11 to be eligible. Team Manager John Barron will be in attendance in Ogden to answer questions and formally invite six women to join the Collegiate All-Stars team. All riders/teams must bring this form with them to packet pick-up to verify their full-time status: Riders will not be allowed to start their races without this form. 2. To register, each rider s Conference Director must first check off that the rider has met both the minimum race requirements (#3-4 below), and qualified for one of the conference s allocated start spots (#5 below). 3. To compete in the criterium or road race, riders need to have competed as a category A rider in at least three conference mass start races this season, and must hold a USA Cycling Collegiate license. 4. To compete in the team time trial, riders must have competed as a category A rider in at least two races this season, and must hold a USA Cycling Collegiate license. (This means that any category collegiate rider can enter the National Championship TTT event, so long as they have entered two category A TTTs this season.) 5. Each conference is allocated a finite number of start spots in the criterium and road races. To earn one of these spots, in addition to the minimum requirements (#3-4 above), riders must rank highly enough in the conference either as a team or individual. Each conference determines differently how many of these spots go to teams and how many go to individuals, so ask your conference director or team leader for details. If you don t think you will earn enough points either as a team or individual to qualify, there may be extra start spots available from other conferences, so ask your conference director. 6. For each gender, teams may enter up to 6 riders in the road race, 4 riders in the criterium, and one team of 3 to 4 riders in the team time trial (time taken on the third wheel). Teams may enter a total of 8 men and 8 women at the National Championships. 7. Full rules for the event can be found in section 7L of the USA Cycling Rule Book, including explanations of scoring and call-up procedures. The UCI maintains a website with the information of approved wheels. Generally, this means that all wheels must have at least 16 spokes, each spoke must be no more than 2.4mm thick in any dimension, and the rim must be no more than 25mm deep. A list of wheels that can be excepted from those requirements can be found here: 24 Official Technical Guide
