All divisions/disciplines/ committee representatives are required to provide regular reports. A reminder to committee representatives to submit to the executive for keeping: agendas, minutes, and brief reports relevant to FLCC. A month end financial statement is sent to each executive member prior to meeting or review. Statements are available to any member upon request. Cec will follow up with Dianne when she gets back. There are still issues with the boat motors. The Tohatsu has been checked and seems to be functioning properly. Digital key locks are expensive. They also come with their own issues.the investigation will be put on hold at this time. The hats are selling well at the great price of $15. One more order will be placed this fall. Jonathan has revised the boathouse lease and we should receive it shortly for signature. Joyce will ensure that Bob gets notification of incident reports. There have been a few glitches; but the online sign up for drop ins has implemented successfully. Online safety quizzes are quite useful for putting safety 2

3 procedures in place Inter-divisional Equipment Usage Hub Insurance Zone Coverage The BC Summer Games went well. Bob volunteered for the games and was designated at the last moment to set up the OC racing. The OC races affected FLCC crews who were not notified their practices were cancelled. Apologies to those members that were affected. More notice and information about OC usage would have helped our FLCC volunteers. Gralin investigated about taking an OC to the Gorge race. Hub Insurance was able to put a rider on our policy for that event. The cost was $100 for to include 4 US events. Phil at Hub Insurance suggested rewriting the policy when it is up for renewal. Treasurer CRA Update Item E-1.3 Safety Safety Training for Divisions All our information submitted to CRA has been accepted. We are finished with the GST filing. Report Attached.Bob, Jonathan, Glenn and Cheryl held a safety information session with the voyageurs. Three boats of members attended the safety sessions. Gralin is planning for an OC session. Item E-1.4 Facilities/Inventory Paddlesport Dock & Boathouse Dock Expansion Project Update Joseph Haldi House Update Maintenance Item E-2 DRAGON BOAT The broken board was reported to the ToL It has not been fixed to this time. Carolyn is working on the ramps. We are awaiting the formal letter of approval for the Downstream Dock expansion from the Township of Langley. The committee will include Cheryl, Bob, Gralin, Cec, Joyce and other interested club members. Bob will set a date for the meeting. Also see report attached. 3

4 2.1 DB Committee Item E-3 FLATWATER/SPRINT 3.1 Sprint Update Joyce is revising the Dragonboat steers policy including additions to the Level 3 Steers. We will have the DB10s for the winter with a possibility of purchasing the Swifts. Joyce will find a home for the DB10 Elite. Joyce has offered a one time waiver on the $10 drop in fee for non-members. Also see report attached. There was a total of 83 competitors at the BC Summer Games. Sprint had 6 competing athletes. Item E-4 OUTRIGGER Also see report attached. 4.1 OC Committee Item E-5 VOY/REC CANOE 5.1 Hoist Proposal F We have some teams in the running for overall titles. The trailer and the Bradley and one Advantage will be going to the race. Gralin will look for the chance to buy a used Bradley. Also see attached report. 5 by Cecilia Welk Attachments: Combined Reports Safety Officer Report Submitted by Bob Anderson July 25, 2016 Highlight for past month was a safety meeting involving members of the Voyageur Division. About twenty voyageur paddlers attended and learned about: pre-trip planning and crew and personal preparation (Bob Anderson); boat handling and entry / exit at the dock (Jonathan Wilkins); and boat handling / steering / paddling techniques on the river (Glenn). An emphasis was made to all paddlers that all must contribute to the team in being alert to the steersperson s commands and paddling while the boat is underway. Practice with the throw bag remains on the to-do list for the voyageur group. Online incident reports filed from January 1, 2016 onwards were reviewed for any consistant trends that could be addressed by training or equipment. A concerted effort by the Dragonboat Rep to ensure accuracy of the Pull-out Spots Map, its distribution to dragon boat teams (via a pick-up spot in the chicken coop ) and use (via a contest) significantly contribute to uptake of this important information. Identification of a trip hazard due to deterioration of the northeast corner step of the Paddlesport Dock by the MaL was appreciated as many members use the dock for the Voyageur, Kayak and OC 1 storage and launch. Will be coordinating with OC Rep regarding upcoming OC6 / OC1 huli recovery certifications. Dragonboat Report July 2016 Submitted by Joyce May The knowledge and on-water assessment of steers continues from last year but the response is less than enthusiastic. There is some reluctance from more experienced steers but an easy willingness from new steers and trainees. I will be approaching steers on an individual basis to encourage them to follow through with the assessment program. All assessors that participated last year have agreed to continue to do assessments and mentor steers. The boat-cleaning schedule, established last year, is working reasonably well, with minor glitches. The coach-boats have been added to the schedule and have become the responsibility of the teams that use them. 5

6 We are looking to change policy around level three steers: Level three steers shall have a completed two years of steering on a regular basis. Please note that level three steers take out boats of youth and inexperienced paddlers. Dragonboat teams have been issued an interim emergency pull-out spot map to keep in their first aid kits. A contest is being run to have teams take a picture of themselves at the 4 main pull-out spots, encouraging them to become aware of the pull-out spots. We are piloting a first-time free dragonboat drop-in paddle. It has just started and is being well received. A waiver continues to be a requirement to paddle. The division continues to look at options for DB10 including the purchase of new boats, purchase of the leased Swifts and extending the lease of the Swifts. At a minimum we have the use of the Swifts through the winter with the expectation that they be pulled out of the water when not it use during the winter. John Spencer and myself are looking at a roller system to make haul-out easy. Three or more DB10 teams are looking at going to the Pan Am dragonboat races in Puerto Rico, March 17 th -19 th. Deadline for paperwork with Dragonboat Canada is July 1 st. John Spencer is the liaison between the FLCC Dragonboat Division and CBC. Thanks to John Spencer for working to stay on top of DB maintenance issues. OC Report Presented by Gralin Doubleday July 25, 2016 Now that the weather and water temperatures are rising it s time to start thinking about our annual huli drills. Plans are underway for coordination and scheduling of OC6 & OC1 Hulis. The OC6 trailer and boats continue to see increased use making it possible for our crews to attend races all over BC and North West Washington. The tail section of the Bradley continues to be an issue and is showing signs of stress or damage (I m not sure which) which could be from misuse or the vibration of travelling on the trailer. It will be repaired prior to the CORA Cup Championships. I am looking into options for permanently attaching the tail section in hopes of avoiding these issues. A review of our OC Insurance policy is underway, extending our coverage to include travel and racing into the United States. On a recent trip to the Gorge race in Stevenson Wa., it was realized that the policy did not include this region and a special rider had to be arranged at short notice. Some upcoming events that crews may be considering are: CORA Cup Championships Gibsons Aug 13/14 & FVDBC Echo Island Challenge Harrison Lake Aug 20. The OC6s were used in the recent BC games paddling events that were held on the Bedford Channel. Their use seemed to be a success although more advance notice was required from the event organizers. 6

7 As always, information on any CORA items, including your annual membership renewal and race schedule & results can be found by visiting Sprint Report July 2016 Submitted by G Rawstron Summer camps have started with some good numbers in the first three weeks and with lots of enquiries we expect the good weather will draw even more participants. Kayak Fit programs are building as more adults get involved in addition to our Township adult beginner programs. WE are looking at how to schedule in a more advanced kayak training program for people looking for more training and even racing. Lauryn had a successful introduction to national Trials and took in the large July 1 st regatta in Ottawa ( a popular well attended regatta for eastern paddlers.) The Provincial Championships and national trials were In Kamloops and about 6 of the qualifiers from Fort Langley are preparing to travel to Halifax for this years nationals. The paddle-a- thon was held for the first time for our club and raised some funds towards a special Canadian Canoe for four people. The BC Summer Games just completed and we proudly hosted a very successful Canoe- Kayak event on the Channel thanks to a great showing by many of our club members some of whom were called in at short notice. Kelley and Francis Cheung led the volunteer coordination and made the event a lot of fun for the participants. We are grateful for the extra help preparing the OC6s and piloting referee and safety boats from other division club members. Karen Peglar also organized a Pub fund raiser with our coaches for Saturday evening that was also very successful and presented an opportunity for the Volunteers to debrief and celebrate together. Voyager Report July 2016 Submitted by Debbie Scott Hi all we have had a great July paddling Tuesday evenings and Saturday mornings. The Gvrd rented 2 voyagers for their public fun day on Brae Island on July 16 th. It was a well attended event. 6 of us voyagers did a 10 trip to the Broughton islands on July th. Had an awesome trip, stayed at a few native reservations and ate 2 meals in their big houses. Was a great experience. Their was a moon light paddle on July 19. The Fort Langley Brigade days is on August 1 st. The sign is on the FLCC website under drop in paddling. Stella and Louise will help with this event.
