All divisions/disciplines/ committee representatives are required to provide regular reports. Any problems need to be reported asap. Motion by Grant to sell the two-stroke motor for $800. Seconded Cec Keypad costs?? Cec has sent each member of the executive a copy of the 2012 Strategic Plan and the 2016 Flatwater Plan. Each division can use these as models for designing their strategic plan. An order has been placed and should be received shortly. Cec is also getting a quote on the long parkas for winter paddling. Grant will look for bases. Cec will organize obtaining stands for the new feathers. Cheryl talked to Envision. Cec and Cheryl will review the application form. Each executive member needs to review the general description for all executive and generate a list of specific duties. Cec will 2

3 send old combined and new general outline BC Societies Act Committee Online Registration Online Signup for DB and OC Joyce is working on the implementation online registration and payment with a target of July 1 st as a start date. Joyce has set up an online signup for Voyageur that is working quite well. The Friday and Sunday DB Dropin will be next in line for implementation. Joyce and Gralin are still working on the OC option on Google Docs. Treasurer CRA Update Item E-1.3 Safety Safety Training for Divisions Susie has finished 2002 to 2013 T2s and will be sent to CRA soon. Debbie needs to contact Joyce with the changes to the 2016 Quiz. Gralin has sent out an to have an initial meeting for an OC committee. FW has a safety boat on the water with the kids and Emily stresses safety at each practice. DB has had its safety meeting. The Freshet Steering Clinic will be held soon. Voyageur will have theirs 9:30 Saturday. OC will be Saturday afternoon. Sunday and Friday Drop-in can provide some paddling for the Freshet Clinic. Item E-1.4 Facilities/Inventory Paddlesport Boathouse Storage The outside door lock has been left open a number of times. Grant would like the lock on the inside of the barn door. The other option is a keypad on the door. The mandoor will have a padlock and the combination lock will go on the barndoor. Grant will make the change Dock Expansion Project Update Fort Heritage Society/Jacob Haldi House We are waiting for written approval from rowers. Carolyn is contacting each rowing club to get the letters. 3

4 1.4.4 Maintenance Committee Item E-2 DRAGON BOAT 2.1 DB 10 Purchase 2.2 DB Committee Also see report attached. Costs, leasing Cheryl, Denise, Joyce have met with the advisory committee. They will meet again in the week after executive meeting to clarify and fine tune. Ongoing training and certification of new steerspersons is a priority. There was some resistance from some steers last year about steers assessment. They will also look at the recruitment of new dragon boaters; especially looking at improving the system for the public to access. 2.3 DB Youth Program Item E-3 FLATWATER/SPRINT 3.1 Sprint Update Youth DB program is being advertised in the schools. One team is registered for Burnaby Youth regatta. Also see report attached. Flatwater is hiring a Summer Program Coordinator using HIDC funds. Zaffiia LaPlante is from Mississauga Canoe Club in Ontario and arriving in mid May. Awesome weather, 45 teams, net profit $3500 were the highlights for River Run Regatta. The downside was the lack of volunteers from the FLCC OC teams to unload and load the boats from Lotus. We may be unable to obtain boats from Lotus in the future. Gralin got the name of a person in Chilliwack for repairs to the Calmar. Advantage Spray skirts arrived. Their main use is for races. Also see attached report. 4

Submitted by Cec Welk Attachments: Combined Reports Dragonboat Report April 24, 2016 Submitted by Joyce May The Dragonboat division has gone from a high of 19 teams in 2014 to 15 teams for the 2016 paddling season. There are also two short-term programs (Youth and Stepping Stones). While growth, for the sake of growth, is not a goal, it is an objective to meet the need for Dragonboat paddling opportunities. The division will look at the recruitment process and team support. The youth program is starting. The youth team will paddle at the CKBC regatta on May 28 th and possibly go to Harrison. The structure and logistics of the youth program are under review. Seasonal forecasts from Environment Canada are indicating a high likelihood of above-normal temperatures across British Columbia over the April to June period, and an increased chance of warmer than normal temperatures through the extended forecast period into the summer months. With a basin-wide index of 96% for the Fraser River, seasonal risk to lower Fraser River from Hope downstream is normal. The expected peak flow for the Fraser River at Hope is m 3 /s; higher or lower flows are possible depending on weather conditions. A Dragonboat freshet steering clinic will be held if freshet conditions are suitable. 5

6 Refinishing of tillers is ongoing. The seats in the two BUKs need re-finishing and a work party will be organized. The division needs more trained steers and some steers are being trained. The process of training, retaining and assessing steers people is under review. Sprint Report March/April 2016 Submitted by Grant Rawstron Spring Camp was held for our athletes on the Bedford Channel with a contingent of paddlers joining us from Burnaby club for one day and followed by a day at Burnaby Lake for our athletes. Other fun activities were included also like rock climbing. The sprint group appreciated the opportunity to be part of the Small Boat Racing on Sunday at Rivers Run regatta. This is often a good test of stamina and of winter training for these athletes at an appropriate time of the season. Goal sheets are being worked on by the Emily and the athletes as they map out the sprint racing season. The BC Games has become so popular that many zones are now having Trials for places on their zone team. This is good to see and provides a goal that athletes under 16 aspire to attending and it showcases our top athletes. Summer Games athletes enter the sport development system at this point and work through the system over the next number of years to eventually go on to represent Canada. Some of our athletes are from Surrey that is now in the Burnaby Zone 4 so they have to try out in Burnaby for that team. Abbotsford Summer Games this year has decided that the Bedford channel was the best site for CanoeKayak competition so we are busy preparing for the event to be hosted here again. The staging again will be off the Brae Island side of the channel with the officiating on the Village side. Rowing is also being hosted here July 21,22,23. Some new school groups are approaching us for outings and a scout group is also doing a kayak series for instruction classes with us another first. Sprint Season opener is at Whonock Lake May 7,8 with most of our athletes getting their first test for the season. Sprint Try-It weekend is planned for May 14,15 which coincides with MEC marathon and other running races finishing on the Plaza on the Sunday. Hope we can find the stands for the flags. A paddle-a thon fundraiser for sprint is being considered for June. OC Report April 25, 2016 Submitted by Gralin Doubleday 6

7 River Run was the main focus this month with many volunteer hours going into the organizing and running of the event, many thanks to all the club members that pitched in to help make the races such a success. The Saturday OC6 event saw FLCC host approximately 250 paddlers comprising 45 crews from all over the lower mainland, Fraser Valley, and for the first time 3 crews from Nanaimo. The weather was summer like and for the most part all aspects of the event ran smoothly with no major safety issues. The Sunday small boat race saw a modest turn out comprised mainly of FLCC OC paddlers and a group of FLCC Flatwater paddlers that joined the race as a separate group starting just after the main group. It was good to see them out paddling hard. The bottom line for the 2 day event was a net revenue for the OC division of $ , and as an added bonus another $ thanks to Betty Stockli for organizing the hanging basket fundraiser. A huge note of thanks and appreciation goes out to those companies and individuals that helped support our event with their kind donations to the raffle draw and overall support: Clearview Nurseries, Western Canoeing and Kayaking, Mountain Equipment Co-op, and especially our own Pat Barker- The Pencil Studio for her generous donation of the framed Ama print. With an ever expanding division, plans are underway for the formation of an OC committee which will be responsible for development of a divisional strat plan, safety policies, future divisional direction, and day to day activities. There has been limited response so far so notice will again be sent out to members looking for enthusiastic participants. As always, information on any CORA items, including your annual membership renewal and race schedule can be found by visiting Voyageur Report April 2016 Submitted by Debbie Scott 1) On April 1 we had a group of exchange students from Quebec rented two voyageurs, it was a fun paddle. 2) Our Tuesday evening paddles have been well attended & we have been lucky with the weather so far. Saturdays have also been well attended. 3) April 7 was the Township of Langley Volunteer appreciation dinner, Sue Tuttle & myself went. It was a nice evening. 4) April 23 we paddled from Fort Langley to Kanaka Creek & had a potluck lunch; we had 2 full boat loads. It wasas a great day & the rain held off for us. Our next day trip is to Widgeon Creek on May 14. 5) I have one new person learning to steer the voyageur. I am hoping we can get a steer clinic, Grant was going to talk to Dave Woolridge. 6) The Voyageur steer quiz on the FLCC website needs the date changed to
