3 Dragon boat Report Karen Corness August 2018 It was a busy month in the Dragon Boat Division. Marilyn handled things while I was away. THANK YOU! F&F, the Senior B representative, and Titanium, the Senior C representative, travelled to Szeged, Hungary to participate in the Club Crew World Championships. The teams did not bring home medals but had great races in their highly competitive divisions. Other club teams were busy preparing and participating in regattas and achieving amazing results. FLCC continues to be a strong presence at regattas! 14 teams participated in the Steveston Regatta this past weekend! WOW, a new team it's year, placed 4th in B Division. All regatta results can be found on the FLCC website. The smoky skies and poor air quality prevented some teams from practicing but they should be back on the water this week. A few seats on the blue BuK were broken and Marilyn arranged to have them repaired. Wendy Boccia and her husband, from Sundragons, replaced all the seats and stained the new wood. They look amazing. A few paddlers from Abreast in a Boat have asked dragon boaters to donate their extra paddles. These paddles will be shipped to Columbia where they plan to start a team for breast cancer survivors. A container has been placed in the cage for the collection of these paddles. Michelle Righetti, from Fortitude, is the contact person. The ad-hoc steering committee met to develop a plan and policy for re-assessing the level 2 and 3 steers. More information on this will be presented at a future meeting. OC Report Joanne Bolam August 2018 It has been a busy month for outriggers, both Calmars are back on the water. Four boats were trailered to races and 3 are now back on the water. It takes a lot of time and effort to move boats. FLCC has been well represented at all races. Huli s are well under way for both oc6 and oc1. The new oc1 s have been having issues with the Iako s, will monitor, but the new boats have been very well used
4 Member at Large Report Marilyn Leibel The cleaning and repair of the Pub Dock and ramp has been completed. The red Tohatsu motor was returned by Maple Marine after being serviced and the green Tohatsu Outboard Motor was picked up. The yellow job box in the gas cage now has a lock. A large branch has partially broken off a tree by the Pub Dock. The Township of Langley was contacted and after examining the tree, have determined that if it detaches from the tree, it should not cause damage to the ramp or dock. They will continue to monitor it. Some damage was done to one of the bars of the motor mount clamp locking mechanism when the canoe dock was broken into. It has been replaced. Voyageur Report Cec Welk The Tuesday Paddle and Potluck has well attended and enjoyed by all. Thank you Debi for hosting and screening Momma Mia for our enjoyment. Registration has opened for Cranberry Races and a waiting list is growing. Recruitment of volunteers is underway; participation by all divisions is greatly appreciated. The smoke advisory played havoc with the planning of the Moonlight Paddle; the September Moonlight paddle will be advertised soon. Sprint Report Inga Kruse The last month has been very hectic. Our Township Summer Camp programs have enjoyed more enrollment than ever, and we are seeing kids signing up for more than one week as they enjoy the experience and want to come back. Or Head Coach, Connor Fehr and our Summer coaching staff have been delivering high quality coaching, and turning newcomers into all year Sprint racers. Forty-seven paddlers from nine clubs are set to represent B.C. at the upcoming 2018 Canadian Sprint Canoe Kayak Championships. Taking place in Sherbrooke at the Lac de Nations at Jacques-Cartier Park, the event will crown champions in a variety of age categories in sprint canoe, kayak and paracanoe from August 28- September 1. Fort Canoe & Kayak Club is being represented by Connor Fehr, Devon Holcroft, Elliot Hoyt, Ben Muench, Noah Said, Omar Said, and Liam Stewart. Results will be available real time at: We took delivery of our new junior K4 which has allowed our club to accelerate the training of our youngest athletes by putting them in the team boat.
5 We are now seeing good progress on updating all of our policies and procedures, our board is functioning well, and we are making plans for 2019 that include growth, new ideas for program offerings and fundraising.
