Non-members welcome to join one day trip for dropin fees plus trip fees. For weekend trip, non-members must join as associate members for $25.00 plus trip fees. Pitt Meadows Club had borrowed one of the voyageur canoes for their summer programs (since Sunshine Coast Brigade), which is to be returned before Brigade Days as we are unsure the number of boats we will need. 8.3 Sunshine Coast As requested by exec, Glenda wrote a letter to Sunshine Coast Brigade organizers concerning misunderstanding of use our canoe at their event, and received a nice reply. 8.4 Cranberry Festival Plans have started Susie Tuttle will do registration again this year. Due to recent criminal activity, these measures were decided: - Paint motors a bright fluorescent colour so that no one would want to steal them - Put a large FLCC logo on all boats - Make sure all serial numbers are on inventory list F3 Club training re: security Locks and lines at Riverside and Canoe Dock continue to be and boat moorage incorrect secured. ToL have posted new signs NEXT MEETING(S) Next executive meeting: Monday August 8:00 Fort Langley Community Hall ADJOURNMENT MOTION by Glenda to adjourn. Second by Catriona The meeting adjourned 10:15 pm Submitted by Sara Strachan Attachments: Combined Reports Dragon boat Report - Karen Corness - July 2017 July continued to be a busy month for regattas. After Concord Pacific, teams participated in regattas at Nanaimo and Harrison with excellent results. Fast and Furious and Titanium are preparing for Nationals in Wellington, Ont. at the beginning of August. As the teams practice hard for these regattas, John Spencer continues to make sure that all boats are in good repair. July saw many dragon boat outings for adults and students. Gayle Brooks has been coordinating these outings with the help of many volunteers. The shortage of steerspersons is being addressed. New steerspersons continue to practice under the mentorship of level 3 steerspersons. A few level 1 steerspersons have been assessed. Dan Peebles and his committee continue to work on updating the steering manual and assessment documents. Sprint Report - Grant Rawstrom - July 2017 July is a busy month for us! Programs are in full swing including; weekly Summer Camps, Sprint Summer program, Masters Paddling, KayakFit and Drop-In kayaking. Drop-In kayaking was added the end of June and run Tuesday evenings. This offers another opportunity to introduce new paddlers to the club. Both KayakFit and Drop-In nights have seen consistent participants, who are enjoying being back on the Bedford Channel. The recreational boats were moved back over to the Bedford Channel on July 16th. Boats, paddles and life-jackets were transported back and forth multiple times per day for our Summer camp and evening programs. Staff and volunteers did a great job prepping the space allocated for the container. The date of the container placement is to be determined. This will reduce the amount of time spent transporting back and forth and greatly increase security of our recreational boats and equipment.
7 I am very happy to announce our 2017 Summer Camps are almost full. With the increase of the amount of participants and price per week our summer camps should be our biggest source of revenue. Lauryn, Ryan, Devon and Kirsten have been working hard on making each day fun and exciting for the kids. July events for the Sprint Team include: Paddle-a-thon, Provincials/B.C Cup #2, Grouse Grind Hike and Ridge Invitational Regatta. The Sprint Team paddled in our Paddle-a-thon July 8th. Our paddlers surpassed the goal of 150km to reach a total of 171km! We had great representation from all FCKC age groups at this event. Provincials and B.C Cup #2 were cancelled due to the B.C wildfires. Provincial qualification races will be held in conjunction with the Ridge Invitational Regatta next weekend. Elliot Hoyt and Ben Muench will represent FCKC at this years Nationals held in Welland, ON. Hosted by the Western Ontario Division of CanoeKayak Canada, CanoeWelland2017 will see up to 1,800 athletes compete to be named Canada s best paddlers of the year. Borrowing of boats has been organized through South Niagara Canoe Club to avoid the cost of boat transportation. The Sprint Team will hike the Grouse Grind for the second year! This is a great team building opportunity, good workout and a chance to enjoy the mountain views. It is open to all ages, families are encouraged to join in. The number of youth hanging out, drinking, smoking and swimming on the dock has drastically increased from last year. This has been a disturbance for all user groups. Many calls have been made to the Langley Police Non-Emergency. TOL have placed signs at the top of the gate, on both boathouses and spikes on the top of the boathouse to deter people from jumping off the roof. The situation will continue to be monitored by staff. The Canada Summer Games women s kayak and men s canoe teams will hold their final crewboat training camps at FCKC next week. FCKC s own, Meghan Cheung will train with the womens team while Liam Stewart will train with the men s canoe team. A technical session is set up for the FCKC athlete to learn from the Provincial Coaches, (Blake Dalton, Cory Rublee) and best U21 athletes Freshet is over!! OC Report - July, Joanne Bolam For the upcoming Harrison race we will be hauling 4 boats. The Bradley is still being worked on, but will be ready to go and then back on the water in Ft. Langley. One OC incident where the tide and freshet and miscalculation pushed an OC onto the reflector logs at the canoe dock. No one hurt, no damage. The OC 1 s will be locked and only those members paying for usage will get a key Voyager Report - July Glenda Grassmuck On Saturday, July 15 we supplied three voyager canoes to DRBIPA. Fortunately the river had receded enough that we could pull the canoes up onto the beach area. We had 15 volunteers to help the 130 people who enjoyed a 20 minute paddle down the river. Glenn was on hand to show us how the new hoist works. We took turns using the wheel and successfully lowered then raised our third canoe. Jonathan has taken Glenn s invoice to the B.C.S. so hopefully some money will be forthcoming. Glenn showed us how a fourth canoe could be added to the hoist arrangement. Perhaps a new canoe could be added to next year s budget?
8 After our busy morning some hardy souls went for a paddle, and then for a potluck and movie night at Debi Collins's home. What would a voyager report be without a potluck? Julie Kell has asked Joyce to advertise Brigade Days August 7 th in our newsletter. We are hoping for a good turnout this year. Perhaps a challenge to the executive! Member at Large Report July Catriona Eigenfeldt No changes in the areas of: Gas volunteer system working Cleaning. Volunteer system working for chicken coop and boat house organizing Locks. Volunteer system working Motors: John S. in charge updates to be discussed. Motors: discuss update regarding stolen motor Coach boats: feedback. New boat working well. Maintenance: requested that we add to the next newsletter and expression of interest for volunteers for an August general dock maintenance crew powerwashing, some board replacement. Dates TBA - Need to discuss major maintenance issues and plan to get items completed. Security and risk analysis: would like to discuss security/risk analysis I was away for 2 ½ weeks in July so THANK YOU to Joanne Bolam for overseeing the locks/keys and MAL contact.
