1 2014 Season It s a new Boating Club season, folks! We would like to get everyone signed up who wants to participate in boating events and boating club parties! This year is an election year for new SLBC officers. The positions of Commodore, Vice Commodore(s) Kayaking, Sailing, Rowing, Social Activities, Secretary, and Treasurer are available. We have attached a brief description of the responsibilities of each officer to this newsletter. If interested, please contact Ted Chapman at tchapman@guidemark.com The dues are $20 per family, the same as the past few years. Donations are always welcome. Please forward a check to club treasurer, Kathy Walsh, before June 21, 2014, or bring it with you to the first social event. 2 2014 Activity Schedules! Kayaking The position of Vice Commodore of Kayaking for 2014 is currently open. Responsibilities include organizing an event during Madison Old Home Week and naming winners for events established. It leaves the option open for someone to help organize a Bear Camp River trip, the Poker Run or a Cooks River excursion, if they so choose. Although not an SLBC event, we are encouraging folks to participate in the LakeFest 2014 "Raft-a- Palooza event on Sunday, August 3 rd at Weirs Beach in Laconia sponsored by New Hampshire Lakes Association. This unique event is to raise awareness of the dangers of exotic aquatic species in our lakes and an attempt to beat the Guinness World Record with kayaks and canoes on a single water body! Karen & Cindy Lord are organizing our local team. See the attached information. Please contact Ted Chapman if you are interested in becoming Vice Commodore at tchapman@guidemark.com. Rowing Rowers meet at 7:30am on weekend mornings off Hurricane Point. Destination TBD by voice vote. Coffee and carbs (those delicious rowing scones ) will be provided on Sundays. Races: 2000 meter sprint on Sunday August 10 th. Meet at Hurricane Point at 7:30am Lake Race on Sunday August 24 th. Meet at South Beach at 7:30am All rowers should keep a log of their times on the water if they intend to compete for the Maud Fontenay Endurance Award. The Captain s meeting will be at the Pope s house on 65 Caroline Road on July 5 th at 10:00am. The races are: July 4 th Regatta: July 5 th at 2:00pm Labor Day Regatta: August 30 th at 2:00pm. We need SLBC volunteers to help with all these events!
3 2014 Social Schedule 2014 promises to be a wonderful boating season on beautiful Silver Lake! In addition to great fun on the water, there are four evening socials planned, as well. Please bring a dish to share according to the schedule below. If you have a lawn chair or two to bring along (for the summertime events), that would be great. Ice, soda, and water will be available. As voted by the membership, all socials are BYOB. See you there! Hamburgers, hotdogs, veggie burgers, portobellos, & chicken will be provided & cooked at the Klomp s. 4 Silver Lake Boa-ng Club Officers responsibili-es for 2- year term Commodore Collaborate with Secretary in publishing annual newsle=er in the Spring Order, pick up, and deliver any SLBC accessories that the membership orders in the Spring Work with Vice- commodores to review and order prizes Work with Vice- commodores as needed to ensure success of their events Decide, in consultahon, on discrehonary expenditures for the benefit of the Club Establish agenda for Annual MeeHng and run the MeeHng Vice- commodore of Sailing IdenHfy dates for sailing races and nohfy Commodore Maintain race equipment (buoys, horn, whistle, Hmer, etc.) Obtain racing permit annually from State of New Hampshire and set up/take down race courses IdenHfy Commi=ee and Safety boats for each race Record award winners for sailing events Present awards at Annual MeeHng Vice- commodore of Rowing IdenHfy dates for rowing races and nohfy Commodore Record award winners for rowing events Present awards at Annual MeeHng Provide inspirahon for all the early- morning rowers to get out and have fun! Vice- commodore of Kayaking Organize kayaking events during the summer and nohfy Commodore. For example, Poker Run during Old Home Week, group trip down the Bear Camp River, Cook s Pond, Conway Lake, etc. There typically are no races or prizes, just fun Social Ac-vi-es Coordinator IdenHfy hosts for Summer and Holiday social events Purchase party supplies (cups, plates, napkins, water, soda, etc.) reimbursed Manage party set- up and take- down (with volunteers) Store party supplies, tents, tables between events.
