1 President s Message Dear AAUW Camarillo Members Year of Growth & Retention This is an exciting time for our branch and we have a lot going on over the next few months. Our Year of Growth and Retention has started off very well. I am excited to announce we have applications for 2 new members, on track toward our goal of 25 for the year. Thank you to those members who have been recruiting. Let's continue to tell our friends about the wonderful activities and opportunities with AAUW! IBC Luncheon Success One of our new members is Captain Valerie Overstreet, a Navy pilot stationed at Pt. Mugu Naval Airbase. For those of us who attended the IBC Luncheon, we had the opportunity to hear Captain Overstreet s fantastic presentation and see a video, from the cockpit, of her landing her plane on an aircraft carrier! Thank you to all who attended this important event. IBC Brighter Horizons We are currently seeking volunteers for the IBC Brighter Horizons, as IBC will take on a more substantial role for the three branches (Camarillo, Simi Valley, and Thousand Oaks). This program will introduce science, technology, engineering and math opportunities to young people from all of Ventura County. Please let Linda Stinebaugh know if you are interested in volunteering. The event is Saturday, March 12, 2016 at Cal Lutheran University, from 9am- Noon. Upcoming General Meeting There are several items that need our members attention. Our bylaws have to be updated and completed by the end of March. Do we have enough money for Tech Trek and Scholarships this coming season? These, along with other items will be on the agenda for a general meeting on Sunday, February 21, 2016 at the Los Posas Country Club in Camarillo, from 12 Noon until 2 p.m. We are looking forward to a full house, so please RSVP to me as soon as possible. I would also like to extend my heartfelt condolences to the families of our members who have passed away, and to those who have lost loved ones. I would also like to wish our members who are dealing with poor health a "HUGE" get well wish. Please remember to always take care of your health. NEXT BOARD MEETING Warmest regards to you all, Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at 7:30 pm at Terri McDaniel's Home Pamela
2 The IBC Luncheon Was A Success Captain Overstreet. What a career path she shared with those of us fortunate enough to hear her speak last month at the IBC luncheon. A dynamic speaker, Captain Overstreet told her life story in a way that kept everyone listening, while we were also entertained by her terrific sense of humor. The pictures of her Numerous landings on a ship in the middle of an ocean were captivating, and though she mentioned her many flight missions over Kandahar and Afghanistan, she was very thoughtful about not including the actual horrors of war she must have witnessed. The hour Captain Overstreet spoke was fascinating, organized, to the point, had just the right amount of visual aids, and it showed what determination she had to get to where she is today, second in command at Pt. Mugu. This also brings to mind the nearly limitless possibilities that may become available for the young women we support in our Tech Trek Program. - JoAnn Cataldo Gloria Regen & Captain Valerie Overstreet SAVE THE DATES! PLEASE SEE THE FOLLOWING PAGES FOR DETAILS ON OUR UPCOMING EVENTS! MARK YOUR CALENDARS SUNDAY, February 21 General Meeting Los Posas Country Club, Camarillo Noon-2 p.m. Please RSVP Saturday, October22, 2016: Authors Day Luncheon For more information regarding upcoming evens please contact: Los Robles Golf Club Judi Gill Judy Pfiel, Maureen Everakes, Pamela Perkins-Dwyer, and Sally Hibbits (See next page for dates of more upcoming events)
