1 The Dragon News December 2011 Hanes Magnet School PTSA During this season of giving, the students of Hanes have been working hard to collect cans, non- perishable food items, and money for the Rescue Mission Holiday Food Drive. It is inspiring to see the students giving so freely to help others in their time of need. Our students are getting involved outside the classroom with clubs, athletics, artistic endeavors, and serving others. Congratulations to Krystal Abbott and Elizabeth MacMillan for being chosen as winners of the Public Library's Bookmark Contest! See page 8 for our PTSA Reflections winners. We are recognizing students in the areas of visual arts, literature, film, music, and photography. Students involved in the Service Club have been collecting hats, gloves, and socks for the needy. They have also been making ornaments for Senior Services. Learn more about our progress on the Direct Donation Campaign on page 5, we are still working toward our goal, so please consider Hanes in your end- of- year donations. Are you a member of the PTSA? 4 BoxTop$ for Hanes BoxTops Winner Selected Congratulations to JACOB BREWER, a 7th grade student in Ms. Hazel's homeroom, who won the BoxTops for Education fall gift card drawing. By submitting at least one completed BoxTops Bonanza sheet, Jacob's name was drawn at random as the lucky winner of a $25 gift card to Target. There will be another drawing in the spring, so keep clippin' those box tops and submitting those Bonanza sheets (see this newsletter for a copy or print off from the Hanes website). Completed sheets can be placed in the big orange box in the Hanes workroom, turned in to the Hanes office or returned via the weekly packets. BoxTops Earnings Update Over the past three months, Hanes students and their parents have collected and submitted a total of 6,413 BoxTops! This earns Hanes Magnet School $641.30, a fabulous start to our budgeted goal for the school of $1,300. The PTSA will receive a check from General Mills this month. Thank you to everyone who took the time to clip and submit BoxTops - - every single one counts! Remember to tell grandparents, neighbors, friends and co- workers about the BoxTops for Education program at Hanes and simply ask them to save their BoxTops for you. For every completed BoxTops Bonanza sheet you turn- in, your name will be entered into the spring drawing for a $35 gift card to Target, Barnes & Noble or Dick's Sporting Goods - your choice! The more you submit, the more you increase your chances of winning. Shop. Clip. Submit! Hanes SMOD Sale Save your SMOD! Coming soon.smod sale! We are asking our Hanes Families to save the gently used shirts, pants, skirts, and sweatshirts that meet the Standard Mode of Dress Requirements. All SMOD sale items will be tax- deductible donations. The PTSA will provide each donor with a receipt for tax purposes. The date of the sale is yet to be determined, but prices will be budget- friendly. We will be looking for volunteers, both parents and students, who are interested in helping set- up and/or working the sale. Look for more information in January. Page 4

5 Direct Donation Fundraiser for Your PTSA Help Us Reach Our Goal!!!
