It was great to see everyone and to celebrate. Thank you to Lion Patti for being the organizer-extraordinaire. She did an excellent job with the planning and was able to have Santa Claus present. Thanks also to all the members that attended and brought guests. We were very proud to have as our entertainment the Palatine High School White House-bound singing sensations. Thank you to Lion Gerry Ross for once again arranging their participation. Dr Steve and the group were departing for their performance at the White House in just a short time after our Christmas party. Hopefully they enjoyed themselves and made Palatine proud. 2 Page 2 Lions Roar Palatine Lions News Briefs The previous Newsletter failed to congratulate Lion Ev for his great efforts during Candy Day. Lion Ev was once again the top producer with $904 in collections. Lion Ray rallied the troops to generate money and baskets to sponsor 10 families lives much happier at Thanksgiving. Congratulations to us all and thank you to Lion Ray (and Sharon) for shopping and coordinating the efforts. Lion Sherryl Weidner s address in the new Roster Book is incorrect. The correct address is BernardWeidner@SBCGlobal.Net. Also, an update to the Roster Book is to note that the May 18th meeting will be a Spouse/Guest night and we will be hosting our Scholarship winners. A quote from Lion Ed Moran, I m not called Fast Eddie for being on the track team. The Winsauers were our guest speakers in October and spoke about Honey Bees. A couple of fast facts. A honey bee colony flies 55,000 flight miles and visits 2 million flowers to collect the nectar for 1 lb of honey. One colony of 60,00 can produce 250 lbs of honey per year, but only needs about 70 lbs to survive the winter. 4 Page 4 Lions Roar The following letter was recently received from The Luke Commission. This is the group that is lead by two Grant Township Lions members. Several of our Club members have attended presentations and updates that they have made while back in the US the last two years. Our Club has supported them in the past. We should be proud to be a part of their noble work.

5 Volume 3, Issue 4 Page 5 The flyer shown below is a Palatine Chamber of Commerce program that Lion Marty Kelley participated in with his company (Kelley, Kelley & Kelley). The premise was that different businesses sponsored benches that were hand painted by local artists (Lion Marty s was done by Marlene Wood) and then displayed around town. On November 12th the benches were auctioned off and, since Lion Marty designated the Palatine Lions Club as his charity of choice, 10% of the proceeds from the sale of the bench will be provided to the Palatine Lions Club. Stop by and take a look at the bench. It is located at the corner of Palatine Road & Smith Street. Thank you Lion Marty.

ORG Newest Member Terry Kelly Installed at December 1 st Meeting Lion Past President Phill Matthews installed our newest member, Terry Kelly, at a recent meeting. There was a good turnout for the meeting and Lion Phill did a nice job with the ceremony. Lion Terry is the Township Assessor and several years ago had donated an Optelec machine to our Club that was formerly used by his father-inlaw that suffered with Macular Degeneration. Terry advised those present of his interest in helping people with sight impairments because he knew firsthand how debilitating sight impairments can be to those who suffer with them. His sponsor was Lion Paul.
