A woman in Oregon, USA, spent four hours trapped between two buildings after she fell from a ledge. Anita Mann became stuck in the narrow gap and had to scream for help. Firefighters cut holes in the wall and then spread a soapy liquid on her so she could wriggle free. She went to hospital for a check-up but luckily wasn't injured. skipping The popularity of skipping has increased massively as a result of the assembly by Miss Greatrex and the influence of year 6. Netball The netball team have got some new players, which have got good potential. The last match was against Hillview and we won 3-2. Well done the netball team, keep up the good work. 2 LONDON HELICOPTER CRASH The Crash!! The emergency services are responding to a helicopter crash in south London after reports it hit a crane. Two people have died and the emergency services are at the scene. Police say nine people are injured and one person is critically ill. Roads near Vauxhall station have been closed and a crane at the top of a new high rise building appears to be damaged. Witnesses have reported seeing debris on the ground and dark grey smoke. HORSE MEAT HORROR!! Investigations are under way to try to discover how horse meat got into some beef burgers on sale in UK and Irish supermarkets.the burgers have been removed from stores and food safety officials say there's no human health risk. The contaminated burgers had been stocked by a number of supermarkets, including Tesco and Iceland. The burgers from Tesco were tested and almost 30% of one sample contained horse meat. It wasn't just horse meat that was found. Pig DNA was also discovered in some beef meal products as well. Tesco has apologised to its customers and say they're "working... to ensure it does not happen again". SNOW WAY!! Snowball Showdown Horsemeat Burgers Police in a town in County Durham in the north of England, have warned people they could be arrested if they throw snowballs at people who don't want to take part in a snowball fight. The Neighbourhood Police Team in Crook, posted a message on Facebook. It said: "Crook Beat Team are aware it has been snowing and people are going to have fun in it, however if anyone is caught throwing snowballs at vehicles - or at people who do not want to be involved in the games - they could be arrested."

3 TREES IN BRAZIL ARE USING MOBILES TO CALL FOR HELP Trees in Brazil are being fitted with a device which will call for help when they're cut down illegally. A battery-powered tracker the size of a smart phone is hidden in the branches of a tree and automatically switches on when the tree is chopped down. The device waits for a mobile signal, which it can pick up from 20 miles away and then calls for help. When the authorities receive a call, they swoop in and arrest the illegal loggers. The tracking device can be left in the trees for a year before needing new batteries. Trees in Brazil BRINGING ROALD DAHL TO LIFE! On Monday 14th January 2013 Year 2 celebrated our new topic 'Roald Rocks' by participating in a whole day of Art. The children learnt about the different Roald Dahl characters and how to create them through different art media. They took part in clay modelling where they created The Enormous Crocodile. They learnt how to sketch just like Quentin Blake! SPICE OF LIFE!! When Year 4 returned to school they came straight into their entry point to a topic on India. They spent an afternoon learning all about life in India from the weather to finding out how and what people in India cook. They started off by tasting some Indian inspired food. It was carefully served by their waiter, Mr Raney. The kids tasting the curry It wasn't just fun though; they had to make tasting notes as they went along. Our grateful thanks to Winton Tandoori who donated the vegetable curry and pilau rice for the children to try.

4 Then Mr McGrath taught them how to make Indian sweets and they had a go at making their own. Mr.McGrath showing the children how to make Indian sweets The children making the sweets TELL US A STORY On Tuesday last week, Reception were visited by Graham Rogers, a professional storyteller. The children were totally absorbed as nursery rhymes and traditional tales were brought to life! Graham used a range of puppets and props and even some of the children to add drama and excitement to the stories he told. This helped introduce the children to their topic "Tell Me A Story" in which they will be the storytellers. Parents can look forward to seeing their stories at the end of the half term. Thank you to those parents who contributed towards the event, and the PFA donation! They all had a magical time! The children having a great time!!
