Question time with the Rota Kids Rotary kids Rota kids are very helpful in our local community, they raise money for charities, help to improve learning in school and much more. They have been thinking of fundraising ideas, such as: a sponsored walk, a cake sale, a dance competition, a trip and a lot more. The President of Rota kids this year is Katie Bills and we decided to interview her to find out her opinion about leading the club. Rota kids president interview What does it feel like to be the president of rota kids? I am very proud to be the president of Rota kids and it is a big responsibility. Do you enjoy Rota kids? Yes, it s very nice to be a part of the rota kids club particularly making important decisions and helping others. What is your favourite thing about the Rota kids club? My favourite thing is that I make positive changes, help others and am respected by all the members to lead the group. YEAR 5 SCIENCE TRIP On Friday the 10th of July Year 5 went on a trip to the University of Wolverhampton Science Park. They learnt about molecules that made up chemicals such as aspirin and caffeine. Then they then had a go at making them out of play dough. In the next workshop there were four activities one of them was finger prints then there was making key rings. Everybody learnt amazing things that they had never seen before Noah Jukes said he thought it was mind-blowing! Next there was blowing up balloons and designing our own experiment. After lunch we had a show about super hero science that made us smile as it was very comical. See all of the pictures of the amazing day on the next page.

Year 5 making model molecules.

Year 5 and the voyage of discovery at In the summer term Year 5 visit Pool Hayes Arts and Community school to see animals from an Exotic Zoo. There were animals such as snakes, armadillos, millipedes, baby crocodiles, tarantulas and chameleons. After the event Nathan said, They all felt different, I felt really apprehensive about touching some of the ones I thought were dangerous. It was an exciting experience because I ve never held an exotic or rare animal before. The afternoon was a great experience for everybody as they had the chance to see, hold and learn about animals from very remote parts of the world. Usually we would have had to go to a zoo or even another country to see these creatures, remarked Latisha. Overall the activities were amazing because they were hands on and not only did we learn about new animals but we also found out about the eco-systems that they live in. Everybody in Year 5 who was asked said they would recommend the experience for any children who want to learn about rare and exotic species. Holding exotic animals; a chameleon, a python, a millipede a tarantula and a small crocodile

Pool Hayes Primary learning mascots It was focus week at Pool Hayes this term and Year 5 had great fun making the school learning mascots. There is Percy the persevering pencil, Gabby the good listening glue, Poppy the positive protractor, Rambo the resilient rubber, Suzie the sharing sharpener and Cooper the concentrating compass. Jacob says I found it very interesting and I think everyone did well - the best part was getting messy. It has improved my art and modelling skills and I would like to do something like that again. School council members commented We know that our new learning mascots will help all children at our school to learn better and we are really looking forward to adding them to our school website as well. Year 5 s finished mascots

This term Year 3 have been making Black County and Willenhall flags, but they haven't copied the local flag, they created their own! Everybody designed their own flag that represented our local area. They sewed their flags together with a variety of fabrics to make their own design. They made sure they were colourful and included things that showed our local identity and the things that were important to us. Miss Cope s class started the project in May and finished it in early June with a bit of help from their teacher and Mrs Lawson. Overall Year 3 finished them in style and they are proud of their finished designs! These are photos of our finished designs. We hope you like them. Do you like gold and all things shiny..? We like gold bricks! Each week at school, in our celebration assembly we try to achieve an award called the Golden Brick, all the teachers in the school pick a child that has done very well all week to be the star of the week. Whoever gets the golden brick gets to have tea and biscuits with Ms Bailey our Headteacher. Ms Bailey asks questions reflecting on your day at school like this example do you feel safe on the playground? Georgia from Year 3 says that she enjoyed celebrating her success and especially eating her favourite biscuits! This is our Golden Brick wall everyone is welcome to see it in our school hall

This term we had a focus week all about our local and school identity. We represented our ideas with works of art that had a focus on local history, landmarks, inspirational people and community. We hope you enjoy our finished displays because we learned about they importance of community, people around us and our finished work shows that we put in 100% effort. What is your favourite piece of art work? (tick the box of the one you liked the most) Year 1 Year 2 Year 4 Year 3 Year 5 Reception

THE WILLOW TREES HAVE HAD A HAIRCUT The willow trees needed a trim to help them grow; they are a special part of the school because each one was planted for the Queen`s Jubilee. These trees are also very important because they re on the school badge and are a big part of our school identity. Activity time start flexing those learning muscles!

The new A-stars sheriffs Our Year 4 team of journalists interviewed the new A-star sheriffs! Isabelle Nightingale interview Q: How do you feel about going to A Stars? A: I know that it teaches me the dangers of the road and how to keep safe! Ciaran Redfern interview Q:What do you think makes A stars different to other school clubs? A:You get to go on fun trips representing the school and you get to choose the winner of competitions. This is a picture of the latest competition winners work. Emily Bowen from Year 3 completed a fantastic acrostic poem about why we should cycle to school and how to keep safe on the road. She won a huge A-star goody bag for her excellent work!

Year 6 Leavers Party On the Tuesday the 14th of July 2015, after an exhausting effort for SATs, Year 6 had their leavers party! The theme was Hollywood and the children dressed up like movie stars. They enjoyed a extremely large bag of chips, a dance and many sweets from a candy cart, created by Paul Garratt, along with a super cake donation from Mrs McMeekin. A great way to finish the year and everybody wishes them well for September starting in their new school!

Y6 Photo gallery On Thursday 9th July, Year 6 held their fabulous end of year performance at PHAC. The Pirates of the Curry Bean was all about two little children who lost their mother and needed to find her. Adventure time! Year 6 s mission to fight the ice king and save princess bubble-gum. They sailed through certain doom and choppy lakes, on kayaks and canoes, climbed the highest walls you have ever seen and did the leap of faith and returned for their leavers assembly heroes one and all! In the next issue... We will be reporting on our autumn term focus week, choosing challenges in class, developments for our sporting teams, our new music scheme, trips and visits, Rota Kids, A-Stars and all the latest, up-to-date PHP headlines!
