1 PIMPAMA NEWS Our First P-2 Athletics Carnival! The first day of spring was the perfect excuse for a new beginning! Our amazing parent cheer squad came dressed in house colours ready to encourage the athletes. As the Prep - Year 2 students assembled in their house tents, the event opened with prayer and an enthusiastic Hoo-Ha-Ha Pimpama! And so began the inaugural Pimpama P-2 Athletics Carnival. Hoops went flying. Rockets soared. Little legs leaped over stretchy foam bars. Chickens ran relays. Sacks went bouncing up and around cones. Speedy contenders sprinted to the finish line trying to outrun Usain Bolt! Students have been learning athletics skills during PE classes this term in preparation for the carnival. At this age, gaining the confidence to participate and have fun are the most important skills to learn. The P-2 Athletics Carnival experience prepares our youngest athletes for the more formal sports carnivals to come in later years. Year 3 came to the sprint finals to cheer for their younger friends. The parent races concluded the finals and set a great example to the students of what it means to join the fun and give your best attitude. The adult tumbles and limping legs racing to the finish line reminded us that more training (and stretching!) is required before the next athletics carnival! Mr Baker, Athletics Coordinator, wishes to congratulate all students who participated in a fun and successful carnival. The weather made for a fantastic afternoon. Many thanks to our High School helpers, who ensured things ran smoothly, and to the many parents who came and cheered on our future champions. Term 3, Week 9

As a school community we will utilise first break to change the world. Operating a stall is optional, but all are welcome, and encouraged, to support the stalls on the day.

The theme is God s Voice and students are invited to purchase an optional t-shirt to wear during the festival.

Creative by Design Festival + Missions Fest In week two of Term 4, Pimpama is again invited to turn our hearts and hands towards our Missions projects. 3 NAPLAN RESULTS At King s there are many ways we measure development, both in the classroom and beyond. NAPLAN is a national educational assessment program conducted once a year. This is in addition to the biannual whole school testing King s implement to assess key curriculum learning areas. The 2016 NAPLAN results rank King s above state and national averages in every area across all grade levels tested. Amongst Gold Coast schools, King s is the third ranked primary school in the region. Congratulations Pimpama Year 3 on your fantastic contribution to these results! Year 4 Camp The campus was a little quieter last week with our Year 4 class on camp. King s students participate in an annual camp from Year 4-12 and it is one of the highlights of the school year. On the Year 4 camp there was canoeing, bodyboarding, team challenges, the giant swing, night time devotions and so much more. Whilst some conquered a fear of heights or tried canoeing for the first time, others were very brave on their first two nights away from home. Everyone returned to school for Father s Afternoon with big smiles! 4 Year 2 Visit Hinze Dam P&F Father s Day Stalls THANK YOU to our amazing volunteers who served at our Father s Day stalls. The day was a HUGE success and it was lovely to spend the morning together and serve alongside you. We appreciate all your time and effort. In His Service, Michelle Adkins, P&F President King s to be Represented at 2017 World Junior Golf Championships Harry Phillips (Year 2) got a set of golf clubs for his 6th birthday. At 7 years of age he placed first in the Junior Golf Queensland tournament. Last weekend, Harry won the US Kids Brisbane Winter Tour and qualified to play at the 2017 World Championships at Pinehurst Golf Club, North Carolina! There he will be competing against 150 children in his age group from all over the world. Congratulations Harry on your achievement to represent Australia playing golf. Your Pimpama school community will be cheering for your success! Gold Coast Inter-School Chess Competition Last week, seven Year 1 students represented Pimpama at the Gold Coast Inter-School Chess Competition. King s Pimpama joined with students from the Reedy Creek campus and played against more than 800 students from around the Gold Coast. Mr Cooke was very impressed with the fantastic effort given by Mason, Tahlia, Owen, Noah, Micah, Jacob and Jackson. King s Skipperoos + Jump Rope for Heart Join the King s Skipperoos for a free trial lesson on Tuesday, 13 September from 3:15-4:15pm. Recreational skipping will again be offered in term 4 on Tuesday afternoons. $88 fees for the term. Skippers must be enrolled. Bookings are essential for the upcoming School Holidays Skills Workshops. Attend one day of both. New skippers are welcome! These children can be demanding of your time, may need a lot of correction, and can be magnets for conflict. They may be emotionally explosive and even draw other family members into conflict.

6 Parenting with Power Unique and Different Scripture of the week: (Romans 12:10) Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honour. Every child is unique and different. Inevitably some kids have significant challenges that seem to suck the energy right out of family life. These children can be demanding of your time, may need a lot of correction, and can be magnets for conflict. They may be emotionally explosive and even draw other family members into conflict. Unfortunately, these children can develop a negative view of themselves based on the high amount of negative feedback they receive. You re likely doing a number of things to help your child change, but here s one that focuses on a positive quality needed instead of stopping the negative behaviours, and it pays off big time in a child s life. It s God s solution called HONOUR. Honour teaches kids to add energy to family life. The term honour describes the process of thinking of others above yourself. In fact, God has hidden within honour the secret ingredients people need to be successful. In essence, it brings customer service into the home. Every form of selfishness has an honour-based solution. Honour means to treat people as special, do more than what s expected, and have a good attitude. Feel free to use this definition or make up your own. Obedience gets the job done, but honour addresses the way people relate to one another. Once you define honour for your child, then it s time to practice. If your child gets people riled up each afternoon before dinner, you might set an appointment with him at 4:00pm for several days in a row and ask him to look for three things he can do to add to family life. He may decorate the dinner table, encourage his brother or prepare something nice for Dad s arrival home. Kids who tend to create tension in relationships need honour practice. Honour changes the way children think. Of course it takes practice but the training you do now adds a new dimension to your parenting. Instead of using correction all the time, now you re doing honour training. Strategy for the week: If one child continually antagonises another, discuss with them the fact that in our family we love, respect and listen to each other. Tell them to do three honouring things for the other before going out to play. Let them think up their own honouring things to do so they value the process in the end. They must report back to you with their ideas. Thinking of others take practice and effort. We have to deliberately teach our children to value others and make them feel loved and appreciated. You could give your child a task each day to make someone outside of the family feel special. Get them to think about it and come to you with their suggestions.
