P R I N C I PA L S M E S S A G E : Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall- Here at Lonedell, we love them all! It s sure been an interesting winter. The students come into the building one day with heavy coats and mittens and then three days later in shorts. At first, I was wondering if we would ever get a snow day but February provided. One thing I have learned over the course of my life is to embrace change. This includes the changes in the weather, in our life and in our school. We cannot do anything about change as it will come to us ready or not. The main mission is to make sure that when there is a change in our life or school, the change goes from good to great. This is in the case in changes we are making at Lonedell R-14. Thanks to our School Board, Mrs. Ulrich, staff, students, parents and community, I can truly say that we are making huge strides accomplishing our goals and vision. Preschool & kindergarten Registration March 8th 4pm to 7pm When I attend conferences, Principal, and Special Education meetings, and Leadership meetings, I sometimes worry for other districts when I heard where they are with curriculum, teacher evaluations, character education, and technology. When Mrs. Ulrich joined our staff, she brought with her the vision for our school to become a 21 st Century educational institution and lead our students to college/ career readiness. Her vision spread to our staff as curriculum was written and taught, more and more computers entered into our classrooms, and teacher evaluations turned from just an explanation of observation to giving him/her guidance to become great. Yes, change is inevitable; I do not know what I will see the students wearing next week, coats or shorts. However, I know at Lonedell R-14 we will continue to embrace the changes which allow us to go from good to great. The winners with these changes will always be our students. In the New Gym

3 Page 3 Basketball Season Is Still Going On In The Area The one question for our A team girls is, "Can they do it?" Will the Lonedell Lady Bobcats be able to hang on for 2 more games and finish up with a perfect season? As of now, these work horses are sitting on an impressive record of They average 47 points a game, not bad compared to your typical 30 point average per game. The closest an opposing team has come to knocking off the Lady Bobcats was back in December at the Southside Parkway Tournament. The Knights hung with the Lady Bobcats with a score of Most recently, the IC Tigers of Union came within 12 points. Other than those two games, you would need a calculator to find the point differential in their games. Three 8th graders, Gracie Sohn, Dakota Stahlman, and Calyn LaCrone, along with a younger talented surrounding cast, are trying to wrap up their Lonedell basketball career on top. Even with adversity like losing 4 year starting guard Gracie Sohn mid-season to surgery, the girls have stepped up and found ways to produce offense and win. This team has been in this situation before. Two years ago this group came close to a perfect season with a record of That disappointing 1 point loss came from a select Washington team in the Franklin County R-2 Tournament. This early season loss did not bring the lady bobcats down. They continued to work and improve. They went on the rest of the season without another blemish on their record, and were able to avenge their loss to Washington in the Spring Bluff Tournament. So what does this team bring to the table? A "Run n Gun" offense baby. You will not fall asleep watching this team perform. Don't blink or you may miss out on what just happened. 5 11" Calyn LaCrone and 5' 8" Allie Medows have been dominating the offensive and defensive boards all season. Both are scoring threats down on the blocks. Their rebounding ability gets the lady bobcats into transition to a fast pace offensive attack lasting only seconds at a time. Point guard, Makayla Johnson, handles the ball for the team. Look out; she will break up the floor for a fast break at any time. She also has the ability to drive the lane and shoot. Guards, Dakota Stahlman, Annabelle Coonse, and Phoebe Arnold, are fast break threats as well. Look for them to assist the "bigs" down low, knock down shots on the perimeter, and play "in your face" swarming defense. Want to see them play? You still have 2 chances to watch them perform. Tuesday the team heads to Strain-Japan for a second match up against the Leopards. The Lady Bobcats wrap up their season Friday against the Knights at Borgia. Good luck girls! Our B team girls are 11-8 with A team girls Our B team boys are 6-11 and A team boys are Congratulations to our Cheerleaders and our Pep club (The Blue Crew) for the awesome job they have done this year.

4 The sixth graders were asked the following question: Which body of water is most like you and why? Here are some of their responses. Page 4 I think that I am mostly like a waterfall. I am like a waterfall because I am fast moving. I am fast moving because I beat everybody in the mile. I m also always moving. I m always moving because I play sports all year around. I can jump high like the salmon trying to jump up the waterfall. I can jump high because I blocked somebody from behind in basketball. I like waterfalls because they can be tall or small, but it doesn t matter. Austin Dunn I think I am a waterfall. Most waterfalls are unique. I am different from most people. When water falls, it collects together again at the bottom. When something bad happens to me, I always collect myself together in the end. Waterfalls are very soothing. When someone is nervous, I make them laugh, and it calms the person down. Do you think you are like a river, lake, ocean, or a waterfall? Mya Bedwell I think I am like an ocean. There are all kinds of animals in the sea and many are yet to be discovered. Kind of like me and my feelings. Some of them I have discovered and some of them I never even knew were there. Sometimes I am calm, not a wave to be seen. At other times, I am like a tsunami wrapped in my emotions and no way of escaping. I am welcoming. People always want to go to the ocean. Also I am beautiful. Some people might not agree with my beauty on the outside, but I know I am gorgeous in the inside. I am quiet and shy. On some nights all you hear is a nice summer breeze. I know this because I always wait for a person to make the first move, but once you get me going, I am the sunset shining over the sea to make a beautiful scene. Jade Clouse To describe myself I would describe myself as a waterfall. Waterfalls are very loud, and I like to be heard. Moving is what waterfalls do. They keep on moving. I keep on moving when life knocks me down. You just have to keep on moving in life. In more than one way I try to be beautiful inside and out. Waterfalls are beautiful in every way, but they can also be dangerous. I wouldn t mean it, but I could hurt you. Another way I m like a waterfall is I m very strong mentally and physically. It is very hard to hurt me. It takes a long time to figure me out because like a waterfall I m crazy, interesting, and different. Every waterfall is unique in its own way. It takes a lot to figure me out just like waterfalls. We re unique in our own ways. Indi Ankelman

6 Page 6 PARENTS RIGHT-TO-KNOW In accordance with ESEA Section 1111(h)(6) PARENTS RIGHT-TO-KNOW, The Lonedell R-14 School District is notifying you, the parent/guardian, of a student in a Title I school that you have the right and may request information regarding the professional qualifications of your child s classroom teacher. This information regarding the professional qualifications of your child s classroom teachers including, at a minimum, the following: 1. Whether the teacher has met State qualification and licensing criteria for the grade levels and subject areas in which the teacher provides instruction. 2. Whether the teacher is teaching under emergency or other provisional status through which State qualification or licensing criteria have been waived. 3. The baccalaureate degree major of the teacher and any other graduate certification or degree held by the teacher, and the field of discipline of the certification or degree. 4. Whether the child is provided services by paraprofessionals and, if so, their qualifications. If at any time your child has been taught for 4 or more consecutive weeks by a teacher not highly qualified, the school will notify you.
