It is a time for thanks, a time for reflection, and time for cheer. My hope is that this letter finds you and family in good health and in good spirits. Please take a few moments to read about some of our successful events on the following pages. Thank you to all who attended. A special thank you to those who put in the time and effort needed to pull off such wonderful events. Upcoming events include the Special Needs Children s Party and the East District Special Children s Winter Festival. Also, I look forward to seeing all you at our upcoming events and our monthly meetings on the 1st and 3rd Thursday. I ask, if you have not already done so, please pay your dues for the year. Your dues are crucial for the benefits our membership. It helps with the funding of lodge improvements, events and most importantly our charitable programs. Regards to you and your families! 2 GOOD OF THE ORDER SPECIAL NEEDS CHILDREN S CHRISTMAS PARTY Every year the Hoboken Elks hosts the Special Needs Children s Chirstmas Party. This party is a very special part of the lodge s legacy and enjoyed by so many children with their families. The excitement when Santa pulls up on a Hoboken Fire Truck could melt the coldest heart. Every child leaves with a present and every belly is full! This year s party is Saturday, December 10th. Volunteers are welcome at 11 AM. The party begins at noon. Gift bags are assembled & tables are set the Friday night before, December 9th. Volunteers are also welcome. The guest list is invitation only. If anyone knows a special needs child who we can add to our guest list, please the name and address to Rick Gerbehy at mrhst1@hotmail.com. He will ensure the family receives an invitation. 3 GOOD OF THE ORDER HOBOKEN VETERANS DAY CEREMONY All Lodge members, Hoboken residents and guests are invited to the Hoboken Veterans Day Ceremony on Friday, November 11th, 11 a.m. at Elysian Park at the WWI Monument (10th & Hudson). Coordinated by Hoboken American Legion Post 107 and Hoboken Elks Lodge 74. Lunch following the ceremony will be held at Hoboken Elks Lodge 1005 Washington Street. SAVE THE DATE! Join us for these exciting events at the Hoboken Elks! Monday Night Football Every Monday during the Season starting at 6. Bar/Grill Room Lodge Meetings Every first and third Thursday of the month at 7:30 Meeting Room Special Needs Children s Christmas Party Saturday, 12/10 12 p.m. Ballroom This invitation only, annual event will take place 12/10. The contest is open to children in grades 5, 6, 7 or 8. Official contest forms are available by contacting Cristina Cushing, Loyal Knight at cristina@hobokenelks.com. The deadline is December 16, Contest Rules: 1. Eligible partcipants must be students enrolled in 5th, 6th, 7th or 8th grade at the time of the contest. 2. Essay length is not to exceed 300 words. 3. Essay must be typed or legibly written in pen. Also, entry must be submitted as written, or typed, by entrant. 4. Essay must be submitted for judging to the Elks Lodge closest to the address of the entrant. 5. Participant must be identified by name, grade, school attending, and sponsoring Elks Lodge on essay. The top three winners in each division will receive a prize from the State Association, and the first place winners will be considered in the National Contest. Page Page 3 5
