2 Summer Challenge Camps 2017 Latin Food: Sick of the same old, same old meals at home? Gone to a Hispanic Restaurant and wanted to make what you eat there at home? Come and join me for some at-home Latin cooking that is simple and fun. Take home new recipes that your whole family will love. Learn the basics and some of the culture that goes with it! Cost: $20 + $10 supply fee Dates: June 2; 2:00-4:00 Grades: 9 th -Adult Coil Pottery: Create your own pottery. Take your creation from a lump of clay to a beautiful and colorful piece of art! Instructor: Cami Bacon Cost: $25 + $10 supply fee Dates: June 1 at 1:00-2:15pm in St. Mary Middle School basement (by St. Mary Hill) in the art room; resume June 8 from 9:45 to 10:30am to glaze; pick up pieces in HS June between 8:00 and Noon Grades: K 8 th Grade Build a Pot: Students will be given a pot and given a lesson on proper plant care, soil, and arrangement. Potters will be filled with annual plants and flowers. Snack will be provided. Instructor: Leah Konechne Cost: $10 + $10 supply fee Dates: June 5 th ; 10:00-11:30 Grades: 3 rd 6 th Grade Cooking Camp: Bored with the same old summer lunches? Cooking camp is filled with great breakfast, lunch, snack, and treat recipes, along with hands on experience in the kitchen! We also learn proper measuring techniques, along with kitchen safety. We will also take time to learn the proper way to set the table! Each day, camp participants will make at least 2 new recipes, but will be able to try 4 new items! Meet at St. Mary Middle School (by St. Mary Hill) *New & fun recipes every summer!! Instructor: Cami Bacon Cost: $ $10 supply fee Dates: June 6-8; 11:00-1:00 Grades: 3 rd -8 th Grade Cheer Camp: Cheering, Chanting, Jumping, Tumbling, Stunting, Flying just some of the fun that will take place at cheer camp! Instructor: Cami Bacon Cost: $25.00 Dates: June 6-8; 1:30-3:00 Grades: K-6 th Grade Drive In: Ever wanted to go to a drive in Movie? Create/decorate your own cardboard vehicle to lounge in, and build your own movie-theatre treat kit! At night we will drive our cars to an outdoor movie showing! Families and friends of these campers will be invited to join us for the movie too. Cost: $15 + $10 supply fee Dates: June 9; 9:00-10:30am & 7:00-8:30pm Grades: K-4 th Grade Drum Line: Do you have the beat? We Got The Beat! Come work on basic drum cadences and see what it is like to be in a real drum line. Students will work on series of cadences, choreography, and simple maneuvering with a drum. Be prepared to have fun! Cost: $20 Dates: June 19-21; 10:45-12:00 Grades: 4 th -8 th Grade Book Club: Join us while we spend thirty minutes silent reading. As a group we will discuss our book, and implement projects that go along with our reading guide. Snack provided, book will be yours to keep. 3 Style Hair: Life is short and doing just the basics with your hair is not fun! Come join us to learn how to do other people s hair and your own! From braids of various difficulty to simple up-dos and curls, the hair possibilities are endless. Come with your own hair struggles and we ll help you get the skills you ve always wanted! All hair types welcome and from any ethnicity! Bring your own hair ties, pins, and curlers. Cost: $20 Dates: June 23 rd & June 30 th Grades (Times): 4 th -6 th (9:00-10:30) & 7 th -12 th (10:30-12:00) Moving Monkeys: Let s move!! Children will practice gross motor movement skills and play games. We will have lots of great activities and games to help us move!! We might also explore some city parks *Children should be potty trained! Cost: $20 + $5 supply fee Dates: June 26-28; 9:00-10:30 Ages: 3-5 Recycled Art: What could one make out of an egg carton or a cereal box? Come to this camp to create some masterpieces of art out of things that you might throw away. Make sure you wear your old clothes because we will be painting. Cost: $15+$10 Dates: June 26-27; 10:45-12:00 Grades: 2 nd 6 th Grade Arts & Crafts Camp: Every day in this camp we will be making different art and craft projects to go with a holiday (Christmas, Halloween, Thanksgiving, 4 th of July, and Spring). We will even have a project were we will paint, but not with paint brushes! Cost: $20 + $10 supply fee Dates: June 28-29; 10:45-12:00 Grades: 2 nd 6 th Grade Fairy Garden Accessories: We will be using clay to create a fairy house and accessories. A dish and soil will be provided to place pieces in so you can plant it later! In this camp you will get to make your own piñata and decorate it! Prepare to get messy and have fun learning a new easy craft that will prepare you for all the parties of your future! We will have a ton of fun learning our letters, numbers, days of the week, and we will be doing a ton of fun activities that go along with some great stories! Children must be potty trained! 4 Landscape Painting: Step-by-step painting class. We will be painting a summer landscape with acrylic paints. One two-hour class. Paintings will be directed, but in my classes they all still look unique and original! Instructor: Laura Drietz Cost: $15+$10 supply fee Dates: July 13; 9:00-11:00 Grades: 1 st -12 th Grade Band & Vocal Lessons: Get a head start to 5 th Grade Band or continue your instrumental and vocal studies by enrolling in band lessons and vocal lessons. You can choose from 4, 30 minute lessons or 8, 15 minute lessons. This is an awesome way to get a head start to the new band year, work on some of your basic skills, or get your singing voice in shape! Mrs. Smith will contact you with your time. Cost: $ Dates: July (4, 30 minute sessions) Grades: 5 th -12 th Grade August 7-10 and August17-20 (8, 15 minute sessions) English ELL (9 th -adult): Begin or continue learning English (as your second language) with ELL classes. From basic daily grammar to beginning/advanced sentence structure, you will continue to feel more confident in your English Speaking, Listening, and Writing Skills. Bring all your questions and a notebook! The rest will be provided. 5 ONE DAY SUMMER CHALLENGE CAMPS $14 PER CLASS/PER STUDENT Father s Day Camp: Come and make the perfect gift to give to Dad this year for Father s Day. We will be making a small gift and a card to say thank you to the Dad in your life! Dates: June 1 st ; 10:00-11:30 Grades: K-6 th Grade Computer: For beginners, this camp will be full of learning how to use a keyboard and start typing. You will get your little fingers moving and begin practicing how to type like a high schooler! For intermediate learners, this camp will review typing and be full of games and fun. Students will race to finish games, projects, and more for prizes! Dates: June 2 nd Grades (Times): 2 nd -3 rd Grade (9:00-10:30) & 4 th -6 th Grade (10:30-12:00) Outdoor Water Olympics: Be ready for fun in the sun! Come enjoy the nice weather with water Olympics. Prepare to run, slide, and race through the water against your friends and family. Compete or just enjoy getting soaked! Dates: June 5 th Grades: K-2 nd Grade (1:30-3:00) & 3 rd -6 th Grade (3:00-4:30) Paw Patrol Camp: Paw Patrol Paw Patrol We ll be there on the double! Come join me in the Lookout as we read stories, make crafts, and play games all centered around our favorite pups.rocky, Rubble, Skye, Marshall, Chase, Zuma, and Everest! Students MUST be potty trained for this camp! Instructor: Cami Bacon Dates: June 6 th ; 9:00-10:30 Ages: 3 5 years Going on a Bear Hunt: We are going on a bear hunt. Are you afraid? WE ARE NOT AFRAID! Come on this fun adventure as we recreate the story of the bear hunt, make a bear craft, and much more! Students MUST be potty trained for this camp! Instructor: Cami Bacon Dates: June 7 th ; 9:00-10:30 Ages: 3 5 years Origami: Have you ever used paper to make more than an airplane? Come learn how to make more shapes out of a simple sheet of paper. From animals to hats and more difficult airplane designs, you will be surprised with what you can do! Dates: June 9 th ; 10:30-12:00 Grades: 4 th 8 th Grade Star Wars: Do you have the force? How are your light saber skills? Test out your Clone Trooper and Jedi skills in a series of obstacle courses and outdoor fun (weather permitting). All Star War campers will start out as a Clone Trooper and work their way up to a Jedi. Dates: June 19 th ; 9:00-10:30 Ages: 4 yrs-2nd Grade Summer Campout: Treats around the campfire and playing with flashlights are just a few things that are fun at a summer camp out. Come and make some summer camp snacks and summer campout projects that will get you ready to go out camping with your family! Dates: June 19 th ; 12:15-1:45 Grades: 1 st - 6 th Grade

6 Trolls: Love to dance? Love to craft? This Trolls themed camp is totally for you. Make Troll hair, decorate Troll treats, enjoy a dance party, and more! Dates: June 19 th ; 12:15-1:45 Ages: 4yrs 2 nd Grade Frozen: Do you want to build a snowman? Or how about becoming Anna or Elise for a day? Come have a fun filled morning singing, playing games, and having a frozen party. Dates: June 20 th ; 9:00 to 10:30 Ages: 4yrs 2 nd Grade Teenage Mutant Turtles: Raphael, Leonardo, Donatello and Michelangelo (He is the party dude)! Come play turtle games and have some of the turtles favorite snacks. Make sure you wear your green clothes, as we will becoming a member of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! Dates: June 20 th ; 12:15-1:45 Ages: 4 yrs-2 nd Grade Super Heroes: Spiderman, Hulk, Iron Man, Superman, Flash & Batman do you like super heroes? Then this is a camp for you! In this camp we will be playing many games to test your super hero abilities. Dates: June 21 st ; 9:00-10:30 Ages: 4 yrs-2 nd Grade Nature Camp: Go on a nature adventure exploring the wild world outside. Look for birds, explore bugs in the ground, and find different types of plants in nature. Please make sure you wear your walking shoes, as we will be exploring nature around the town of Dell Rapids! Dates: June 21 st ; 12:15-1:45 Grades: 1 st 6 th Grade Disney Princess: Who is your favorite princess? Come be a Disney Princess for a few hours. Feel free to wear your dress up costumes and gowns, as we have a mini-magic ball and learn all about our favorite princesses. Dates: June 22 nd ; 9:00-10:30 Ages: 4 yrs-2 nd grade Minute to Win It: Can you take all the tissues out of a tissue box in under a minute? How about stack 5 pop cans on top of water in under a minute? If you want to come and play some fun games and compete against friends, then this is the camp for you! Dates: June 22 nd ; 10:45 to 12:15 Grades: 2 nd 6 th Grade 4 th of July Picnic: Come have some 4 th of July fun! Make table decorations, crafts, projects, play fun 4 th of July games, and cook up a 4 th of July Picnic. This is a one-day camp that will allow your child s imagination to grow and get them all in the 4 th of July spirit. Dates: June 22 nd ; 12:30 to 2:00 Grades: K-6 th Grade Pinkilicious: Little girls come dressed in pink for a fun morning of girlie girl stuff. We will be making some jewelry, decorating pink cupcakes, and even having our very own Pinkilicious party. Dates: June 29th; 9:00-10:30 Ages: 4 yrs-2 nd Grade

7 Pete the Cat: Pete the Cat is a very fun book for all ages. Come explore Pete and his Groovy 4 Buttons, his cool shoes, and his day at school as we read and explore three of Pete the Cat s books. This camp will have everything from music, dance, art, and reading! We will definitely be rocking out during this fun camp! Dates: July 10 th ; 10:45-12:15 Ages: 4 yrs-1 st Grade Dr. Seuss: One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish. Come read and explore the magical world of Dr. Seuss through books, games, and art projects. Dates: July 11 th ; 10:45-12:15 Ages: 5 yrs -3 rd Grade Refund Policy Refunds will only be given to camp participants if the camp director (Joni Smith and Cami Bacon) AND the camp instructor are notified at least one week prior to the camp starting. 9 2017 Summer Challenge SPORTS Camps STRENGTH & CONDITIONING CAMP Instructor: Ross Flemmer Cost: High School-$200 for 4 days/week Junior High $100 for 2 days/week OR 3 days per week $150 Location of Camp: Meet downstairs by the weight room/coaches office in St. Mary High School each morning. Cardinal Strength and Conditioning Camp for Senior High (Grades 9-12 next year): This camp meets Monday thru Friday of each week. This is an 11-week camp starting in late May. This camp is for both boys and girls. The goal of the camp is to improve speed, strength, agility, coordination, and flexibility. Times are 6:00-7:30am or 7:30-9:00am. (Calendars will be ed out once sign up is done and amount of sessions have been set.) Camp participants will receive a t-shirt. Cardinal Strength and Conditioning Camp for Junior High (Grade 7-8 next year): This camp meets each Monday thru Friday for 11-weeks (starting in late May). This camp is for both boys and girls. The goal of this camp is to improve speed, strength, agility, coordination, and flexibility. It is also designed to teach the athletes how to properly perform lifts and drills which they will be doing in their upcoming seasons and in the future. Time is 9:00-10:30am. (Calendars will be ed out once sign up and schedules are all set up.) Camp participants will receive a t-shirt. BOYS BASKETBALL SHOOTING CAMP Instructor: Pete Schmidt Cost: $100 Want to work on getting that perfect shot and form down before the next basketball season? Then come to shooting camp where Coach Schmidt will help you with everything from free throws to lay-ups. Each player will get the fundamentals of shooting and will get many repetitions. Each session will last 45 minutes. Once registration is complete, Coach Schmidt will contact you and set up times. Grades 6-12: June- July $100 for 10 Sessions GIRLS BASKETBALL SHOOTING CAMP Instructor: Jason Michel Cost: $75 Want to work on getting that perfect shot and form down before the next basketball season? Then come to shooting camp where Coach Michel will help you with everything from free throws to lay-ups. Each player will get the fundamentals of shooting and will get many repetitions. Each session will last 45 minutes. Once registration is complete, Coach Michel will contact you and set up times. Grades 7-12: June- July $75 for 8 Sessions

10 SOFTBALL THROWING/FIELDING CAMP COST: $25(NO T-Shirt) Skills and fundamentals camp, with an emphasis on improving throwing form at different distances and fielding form especially with grounders and pop-flies out of the comfort zone. Camp location will be ed out at the end of May. Grades 2-3: May 30 th June 1 st ; 2:30 to 3:30 Grades 4-6: May 30 th June 1 st ; 1:30 to 2:30 Grades 7-8: May 30 th June 1 st ; 11:00 to 12:00 Grades 9-12: May 30 th June 1 st ; 9:00 to 10:00 SOFTBALL PITCHING/CATCHING CAMP COST: $25 (NO T-Shirt) Skills and fundamentals camp, with an emphasis on stance and form. Beginning pitchers will be taught new ball holds for the fast and change-up pitches. More experienced pitchers will begin/continue working on the curve, drop, and rise. Camp location will be ed out at the end of May. Grades: 7 th 12 th Grade Dates: May 30 th June 1 st ; 8:00 to 9:00am SOFTBALL HITTING/BASE RUNNING CAMP COST: $25 (NO T-Shirt) Junior Girls (Grades 4-6): Skills and fundamentals camp, with an emphasis on hitting without a tee and hitting underhand pitches and various speeds pending the overall level. Base-running form and sliding will also be taught/practiced. Senior Girls (Grades 7-12): Skills and fundamentals camp, with an emphasis on stance and ball placement as well as hitting form. Girls that show potential for/want slap-hitting will also get to practice hitting/bunting form. Girls will practice off live pitchers and tees. Base-running form and sliding will also be taught/practiced with a focus on pushing off, dive-backs, stealing and overall getting in the dirt! Camp location will be ed out at the end of May. 14 th -8 th Grade Summer Co-Ed Basketball League Have fun and meet new friends in the St. Mary Summer Co-Ed Basketball League. This is open to all boys/girls entering the 6-8 grades in the fall and is sponsored by the SMHS boys basketball program. This is an 8 game league (2 games per night) that will begin June 8 and will continue on Thursdays through July 6. Players will sign up as individuals and be placed on a team. The first night will be organization and team selection. The games will take place in the evening hours to allow parents an opportunity to enjoy watching their son/daughter play. This league is for students in and out of the St. Mary School system. Current boys and girl basketball players will be coaching and refereeing the games.
