1 A Message from Our President Hey Everyone, By the time you read this, you will have already had a great time at the picnic. The new site was great, but boy was it hot and humid. The food was great as well. I am honestly thinking of proposing we move the picnic to September. I think people will stay around a little longer if the weather was just a tad cooler. We owe thanks to Doug for finding the location and getting us the great food. We also owe a big thanks to Don Hamrick for pulling the trailer out there and loading and unloading it. And let s not forget Calvin for taking all the pictures and helping set up. And don t forget the museum needs your support, so come on out to VetteStock. This is a very friendly, laid-back show. There is always plenty of good food, conversations and great cars to look at. Bill and Joyce Rawlings approached me with something very interesting. They told me you can now get a Senior Lifetime pass to all national parks for only $ Normally these run $80. You have to be 62 or older to get it and it is good for one car, not an individual. This is only good though August 28 th. Here is where you can go to get it: Altoona Lake Operations Project Management Office, Monday - Friday 8AM to 4PM. Telephone number Payment is by check, credit card, money order, but NOT CASH! Address: 1138 State Route 20 Spur, Carterville GA This is a great idea for those retired or plan on retiring and visiting any National Parks. Upcoming elections: I will be harping on this until we get a full slate of candidates. We need at least two people running for each office. We also will need a new treasurer. If you think this is something you might be interested in, please let me know. Remember, the treasurer position is selected by the president and approved by the board. I hope to be seeing you all at the next meeting. Until then, please drive carefully. 3 Chris Reed, NCM Master Ambassador Our Corvette-only car show, VetteStock, which supports the National Corvette Museum, is coming up very soon. It will be on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at Miller's Ale House. The address is: Davis Drive, Alpharetta, GA This is just west of 400 on the north side of Mansell Road. You turn onto Davis Drive and it is up on the left in about an eighth of a mile. The NCM will have their store in attendance, so if you are looking for a new Corvette item they have many to choose from at their booth. This is a top twenty show meaning that attendees will be picking their favorites and Miller's will also pick their favorite car from those entered. You may register online and the cost is $20.00 if done by mail and $21.00 if done online with PayPal. If you wish to register the day of the show instead, it will be $25.00 to enter. Registration begins at 10:00 am and we will begin awarding prizes at 2:00 pm. We will also have a 50/50 drawing that day. We would love to have your support! If you are interested in helping us with this event please contact me. I will need help with parking, set-up, registration, 50/50, DJ and announcements, and clean-up. Thank you in advance. The 23rd Anniversary Celebration will be held at the NCM August 31- September 2. Please signup on the website if you are planning to attend this event so I know how many from our club are interested. We will caravan to the NCM on Thursday morning. So, in light of the Hardee's inside not being open when we went up for our work weekend in June, I am reluctant to meet there. We could meet at the QT at Sandy Plains and Canton Road or at the McDonald's at exit 288 on I-75. Those that plan to attend please give me your feedback. Thanks, Chris Classic Glass Corvette Club 3

4 Upcoming Activities By Doug Reed, VP of Activities Unfortunately Chris and I were not around for the 4 th of July parade in downtown Marietta. However, judging from the pictures I saw in both the Marietta Daily Journal and Marietta Online, and based on the participation, it appears it worked out splendidly! A big thank you goes out to Bob Zajicek for acting in my absence to organize this event. We were able to participate in the Mystery Cruise and must say that it was GREAT!!! Our lunch stop at Sisson s BBQ was good and the service and food were great!! Hats off to Harriette and to the restaurant in the planning and executing for the large group that we had. We occupied about 80% of the restaurant! Then it was off to the Memory Lane car museum. I don t know about you folks, but for those that went on this cruise I m sure it DID bring back some wonderful memories as it did for me. What a fantastic automobile collection!!! Thank you Harriette Majoros for all of the planning necessary to make this one such a success! I think our picnic this year was a success. After all of the planning and apprehension everything seemed to fall in place and everyone seemed to like the new venue. My sincere thanks to those that helped with the setup and cleanup. A special thanks to Don Hamrick for hauling the trailer for us and spending a LOT of time with setup and cleanup. The HEAT was an issue although there is a bit more openness and ventilation compared to our previous location at Cooper s Furnace. I know they call it Cooper s Furnace, but not because it would have been stifling there this year! I heard some suggestions about a change of date, and that is something that will be taken up before next year s event. Now we look forward to August: First off is the Old Soldiers Parade on the 5 th in Alpharetta. This is always a wonderful parade and it gives us a chance to recognize some of our nation s heroes. Herb Guck is heading up this event, and we look forward to participating. IMPORTANT: VetteStock at Miller s Ale House in Alpharetta is on the 26 th. This is our annual show with proceeds going to the National Corvette Museum. If you have not signed up PLEASE DO!! Chris Reed will be saying more about this event. Chris will also be telling you more about the NCM Anniversary & Corvette Hall of Fame Induction on August 31 thru September 2 nd. That now takes us into September with Vettes on the Beach in Pensacola Beach Florida with a side trip after the show to the National Naval Air Museum. There are information and registration instructions on our website. Go to: under events. Classic Glass Corvette Club 4

9 Taking a Walk Down Memory Lane By Harriette Majoros Pictures courtesy of Harriette Majoros and Calvin Cruce The Mystery is solved!!! Thirty-eight CGCCers along with a few guests started out on July 15 for Eatonton, GA and Memory Lane. While in the drivers meeting, Harriette actually told where the group was going on a trip down Memory Lane. Phase One directions were handed out which took the group to the potty stop where Phase Two directions were handed out. After a nice drive out I-20, we cut off at Exit 114 towards Eatonton, and on this drive some actually saw the goats jumping on a trampoline! Such grand entertainment! Our projected arrival time was 11:30 and we arrived right on time. Sisson s BBQ was our lunch destination and each had been provided with a menu so ordering could go quicker. Folks said they liked the food and the wait staff was very friendly. A car club from Powder Springs beat us there by about 10 minutes and because the car that parked directly in front of the doors was a silver C-5 Randy the owner thought it was us starting to come but it was a T-Bird group. More chairs and tables were quickly set up for us and the food came fast. Just before 1:00, we departed sans directions the follow the leader segment. It was a short distance to Memory Lane, which had roped off an entire area for us to park. Once all had parked, Harriette got everyone to finally get in front to take a group picture. The collection is privately owned by one couple, June & Jerry Smith. With 125 vehicles on display, it is the largest private collection of cars in the Southeast. Many are one of a kinds and Chaz found a Corvette like one he used to own there. From antiques to a 2015 Ford, this place has it all. There is so much little kitschy stuff all around the cars you can miss some of the interesting pieces. There are also two large Crown Royal thrones replete in CR purple velvet to relax in. Along with the cars there are a few interesting motorcycles to view. The collection is housed in a strip mall the owner purchased to get a majority of his cars out of warehouses. You do have to go into a few buildings to see the entire displayed collection but there are still cars not on display waiting for a home in another building recently purchased. As coming home was an on your own time, many of us stopped at Farmview Market for ice cream, conversation and some foodstuffs. Traffic coming back on I-20 was a bear! And unfortunately many of us got caught in rainstorms on the way home. If you have a day from Thursday thru Sunday, take the less than 100 mile trip out to Memory Lane, 170 Scott Rd, Eatonton. For a $5 donation that goes to charity, it is a bargain. For more information view: Classic Glass Corvette Club 9

11 Important Notes: September Car Show Pensacola Beach, Florida CGCC has scheduled a cruise to Vettes on the Beach in Pensacola, FL on Sept. 8 th and 9 th. In conjunction with this car show, some are planning a visit to the National Naval Air Museum in Pensacola the Sunday after the show (September 10 th ). There are a few things you need to be aware of: These two events are listed separately on our website. As a consequence, you need to be signed up for either just the car show on Friday and Saturday or both so we have an estimate on the number of cars for each stage of this weekend event. I ve tentatively scheduled lunch at Wintzell s in Greenville, AL on Friday, September 8 th. At this time, I ve not yet scheduled any group meals for Saturday night, Sunday, or Monday if anyone wants to take that option. I ll wait to see the interest. There s already a meet & greet scheduled on Friday night. I ve spoken to the Hampton Inn (the site of the car show) and there are a few rooms available on Sunday, September 10 th for those interested in staying one extra night, with a return to Atlanta on Monday, September 11 th. This will also be at our special group rate of $159 + taxes and fees. Rooms for this event are selling out quickly! The above option may be necessary for some (your option) as, in speaking to the museum personnel, it can take from 4 to 6 hours to see this museum s exhibits. Their hours are 9AM to 5PM. I will try to keep everyone up-to-date between now and September of changes, if any. If you have questions, please drop me a note or see me at the next club meeting. 14 Classic Glass Corvette Club General Meeting July 11, 2017 President Greg Brooks called the meeting to order at 7:30pm and welcomed everyone. He thanked the wait staff, which resulted in a round of applause from the members. He then spoke about Wesley Wong, our guest speaker at the June meeting. Wes did such a good job that several people mentioned what a good idea it would be to invite him back. He can speak on a variety of topics; in particular his experience during 9/1l. We could hold the event at a different venue on a day other than our regular meeting and perhaps invite others, including First Responders. Doug Reed will handle this event. Greg then brought up Charities. We had our first round of donations earlier in the year and it is now time to do the second round. If you have any charities we should consider, send Greg an with your suggestions. Remember, our first priority is for the local charities. Greg reminded us that Club elections are rapidly approaching. He does not plan to run. He asked Club members to start thinking about running and talking to people that could be good candidates. Remember, we must nominate at least two people for each position. Please remember to send Chaz Cone your birthday month. Doug Reed, VP of Activities: Doug introduced our guest speaker, Tiaan Krige, owner of Atlanta Precision Paint Protection. Tiaan gave a brief personal background and then discussed the benefits of XPEL. This is a polyurethane wrap which protects the vehicle s paint and has a ten year warranty. He invited everyone interested in learning more to see him and his assistant, Ryan Hageman, after the meeting. Mystery Cruise - Harriette Majoros, Event Manager: Harriette was not in attendance; therefore, Doug reminded everyone of this event taking place Saturday, July 15. We don t know where we are going; however we are to meet at the QT on Sandy Plains/Canton Road. Driver s meeting is at 9:10am. Be sure to bring your radio, have a full tank of gas and $5 per person. We have 17 cars signed up; if you would like to participate, register by noon Wednesday. Last year s trip was a lot of fun. CGCC Picnic is July 22 at Riverside Park Day Use Area in Cartersville. Only 75 people have signed up. We need a headcount by July 17 th. It is a great site with a huge shelter and plenty of parking and plenty of shade. Ken Cearns asked if we would need the trailer we do. Don Hamrick volunteered to pick it up. If anyone would like to bring an appetizer or dessert, please do. Herb Guck, Event Manager for the Old Soldiers Parade: The parade will be Saturday morning, August 5 th in Alpharetta. It is a short parade and we will go through first so we can get out early. We will meet at Starbucks on Mansell Road at 8:30am. There will be a bus to take your extra guests to the parade site. Currently we have only five cars signed up and we need 13. We will be going to Miller s Ale House for lunch afterwards. VetteStock, August 26 th at Miller s Ale House in Alpharetta Doug has flyers that he is sending to other clubs. Proceeds go to the NCM. Vettes on the Beach, September 8-9, Pensacola: This is a new cruise for the Club. We currently have 22 cars signed up. Leaving Friday morning, stopping for lunch and will attend the Meet and Greet Friday evening. Saturday is the show. Some folks are staying over to visit the Naval Air Museum Sunday. It takes anywhere from three to seven hours to tour the museum. Check out our website for additional information. Doug asked for a show of hands of those who have participated in a Road Rally which is a timed event. If there is enough interest, he has a friend who will help put it together. Classic Glass Corvette Club 14

15 Chris Reed, NCM Ambassador: Chris spoke about VetteStock, which will be August 26 at Miller s Ale House in Alpharetta. Registration is $20 per car by check; $21 on line and $25 at the show. Mike Hollstein is ordering the trophies. The show opens at 10am and ends at 3pm. Proceeds benefit The National Corvette Museum. The NCM store will be attending the show. The following weekend, August 31 - September 2 is The NCM Anniversary Celebration. There will be special presentations, a membership meeting, and the lifetime member inductee dinner which will Thursday evening. You can have an eight minute session on the track for $20. There will be an autograph session that Friday. A luncheon with Doug Fehan, Program Manager Corvette Racing will take place Friday with a question and answer session to follow. Hall of Fame inductees for 2017 are Peter Brock, Jim Minneker, and Tommy Morrison. There will be a dinner in their honor on Friday evening. Remember, we get a discount for NCM memberships as our club is a business member. If you have any questions about this, please see Chris. Linda Greer, Secretary, asked if there were any additions or corrections to the June minutes which were posted in the July VetteSette. There were none. She asked for a motion to approve. Calvin Cruce made the motion; which was seconded by Chris Reed. Motion passed. Sara Diehl, Treasurer, presented the Treasurer s report for June, which was has been posted to the website. There were no additions or corrections by the membership. Winston Whitlock made the motion to approve and it was seconded by Tonie Etter. The motion passed. Sara then discussed the Poker Run. The proceeds from this event are donated to Piedmont 60 Plus. The event made $460 of which $235 was in cash and deposited into the CGCC bank account. The Board of Directors approved donating $350 at the July 5 th BOD meeting. We will combine $235 with $350 and present a check for $585 to Piedmont 60 Plus. Cindy Cowart, VP Membership, announced that we have 239 members with 69 present. She introduced new members: Richard and Susan Malecki th Anniversary Jim Bell 2014 Lime Rock Green Convertible We have five guests: Linda Dutro Peggy and Darrell White Darrell Allers Tom Stoner We have $69 for the drawing; winner was Ken Cearns. Sandi Johannes, VP at Large: Sandi asked if anyone had a new Corvette; there were none. She collected $196 for the 50/25/25 drawing: $98 for the club and $49 each for two winners. Jerry and Phyllis Fountain and Charles King had the winning tickets. Board of Directors: Tonie Etter greeted everyone and for all to have a safe trip home. Steve Boaz not present Chaz Cone N/A Calvin Cruce N/A Alan Zeppenfeld, VetteSette Editor: Nothing new. Classic Glass Corvette Club 15

16 Greg reminded new members to see Calvin for pictures. The next Board meeting is August 1 and the next General meeting is August 8. There was no New Business. Additional comments: Ken Cearns asked why there was a two year office restriction. The subject was first brought up ten years ago. Chaz pointed out that this was discussed again in 2016 and the Club voted No to the proposed unlimited office term. When the Club was formed, Carl Etter included the restriction so that new people in the Club would have an opportunity to serve and to prevent any one personality from taking over. In addition, we were reminded that the NCM Ambassador was an appointed position until 2016 when it became an elected position in order to keep new people with fresh ideas involved with the Club. The two year rule is by office. Greg adjourned the meeting at 8:26 pm. Respectfully submitted, Linda Greer-Zeppenfeld 2017 CGCC Secretary CGCC STORE Classic Glass Corvette Club 16
