1 Hello Everyone, Fall officially arrived on September 22 nd. I can tell by the way the weather has already changed. It is now dark when I head out for work and I have needed a light jacket in the morning. This also means the Fall Tour is coming up (or passed depending on when this get published). Wayne Mobley always does a great job with this event. He puts in a lot of time and energy to make sure everyone has a good time. Be sure to sign up. I missed the last meeting. From the attendance it looks like a lot of you did too. I sure hope it wasn t because it was nomination time for the club. We had several nominations for various offices but are still looking for people to guide the club into the future. So please show up at the next meeting and let s get this process done together. An additional note, if you are running for an office, be sure to have paid your club dues by the end of the November meeting. Our Holiday Party is also just around the corner. This is a very special time for our club. First off, it is the time to thank those that have worked hard to make the year a success. Second, it is when we learn who will be guiding the club for the next year. Third, it is a great time to get together with other members to remember the good times we have had over the years. And lastly, it is a time to get to know and make new friends of members that you may not have met over the year. As I have said so many times in the past, Rita and I have met our best friends through the club and at events like the Holiday Party. I look forward to seeing you all at the next meeting but until then, I hope you all had a GREAT Halloween. 3 Delta Heritage Museum By Winston Whitlock Delta Air Lines was pleased to have the Classic Glass Corvette Club visit the Delta Heritage Museum on October 14th. We had over twenty six members and guests that visited the museum. Inside, Delta s second Douglas DC-3 was on display, along with a reconstructed Curtis 6B Travel Air and Ship 102, the first delivered to Delta. The DC-3, Ship 41 served as a passenger aircraft until the 1960s when she was sold to make way for the incoming jet aircraft. She was sold and re-sold until she wound up in a DC-3 graveyard in Puerto Rico. A Delta pilot from San Juan was visiting his home when he stumbled upon her. Ship 41 was rescued from certain doom back in the late 1990s. At the insistence of many employees, she was purchased and flown back to Atlanta. Over a period of several years and millions of dollars, Ship 41 was restored to new and later won the coveted Lindbergh Award from the Experimental Aircraft Association. She s also on the National Registry of Historic Places. After the tour of the museum, we descended on the BBQ Kitchen for lunch. It was my fault that we caught them by surprise! I had two events, one on the 14th and the other on the 24th of October. I mistakenly told the owner that we would be at the restaurant on the 24th! Linda (the owner), Mildred, and Lynn soldiered on and got all of our food out in a timely manner. Following lunch, twenty six of us went to the Delta Air Lines Training Center. Delta doesn t offer tours so I was pleased that my management said that we could visit. We had the opportunity to visit the Operations Customer Center, the center of the airline. This highly restricted area is the nerve center of the airline. Nothing goes on in the Delta world that the OCC doesn t know about! Classic Glass Corvette Club 3

4 From the OCC, we visited the simulators where pilots are trained to fly the aircraft. The simulation is so realistic that the first time the pilot actually flies the aircraft; there are passengers in the cabin! We visited the flight attendant training areas to include the emergency slide simulator and the ditching pool. I know that I had a great time hosting the group and was proud to show off the facilities. I hope you all enjoyed your visit, too! Classic Glass Corvette Club 4

The remaining money ($450) will go towards various educational programs at the Museum.
