1 A Message from Our President Everyone, Hello How has the New Year started out for you? Can you believe it is already February? As of this writing we have 37 couples signed up for the Valentine s Day Cruise. Don t know if that is a record for this event, but if it isn t, it is right up there. INSIDE THIS ISSUE 3 The Ambassador s Corner 4 7 Corvettes Auctioned for Charity 5 Business Cards 7 CGCC News & Notes 8 CGCC January Minutes 11 Club Store 12 Classifieds 16 Sponsors 22 Upcoming Events Doug is busy setting up the calendar for the coming year. But as always the club needs your help. I mentioned this in the first newsletter and will continue for at least the next seven months. If you have an idea about going somewhere or doing something, please let Doug or myself know. It can be as simple as a day trip out to Madison to see the Show of Homes, Birmingham to the motorcycle museum, or an overnight at a B&B in Highlands. (All of which we have done in the past.) The wider the variety, the better. This is what brings the club and people together and it takes more than one or two people to do this. A good example of this is Wayne Mobley and his fall leaf cruise. He came up with the idea and has been doing it for several years and everyone that goes enjoys it. The club needs you, so step up. To continue in the we need your help theme, SuperVette Saturday will be here before you know it. Mike and Lorraine Hollstein are going to start looking for volunteers to help them with the monster job of putting that event together. SuperVette has always been the jewel in our crown event every year since way-way back. This event brings more Corvettes and Corvette lovers together than any other event in the greater Atlanta area. We raise the majority of our money each year from this event. And where does that money go? Right back into our community, helping kids and people really needing a helping hand. So be on the listen and look out for more information to be coming your way. Don t know if everyone has heard or not, but the 120 Tavern has closed its doors. I m kinda sad about that. I remember going to my first meeting there (known as Sidelines back then). It wasn t nearly as fancy as it is today and our club wasn t nearly as large. We had maybe 100 people or so in the club with most of the club showing up for meetings. There wasn t a stage or sound system or TV screens. It was just a big open room with tables and chairs. I m trying to remember if we even had electricity, I think we may have used candles to light the room. The club officers would put a couple of tables together where the stage is now and just stand up and talk when it was their turn. We all had to be quiet so we could hear them. The VP of Activities would hand out flyers for events and we used to take notes on the back of them about what was going on or coming up. Many times they would say the details haven t been confirmed so call the line. The line was a phone number you called and a voice recording came on telling you about all the upcoming events. This is how we used to get information out to members. I know, because I used to have to update the recording a couple of times a month. But I guess that is just the sign of the times. Businesses close, others open, the C4 passes the torch to the C5 and so on. Eventually the C7 will fade into the background when the C8 comes out. We as a club have come a long way since then. Great web site, s, big Classic Glass Corvette Club 1

2 screen TVs, sound systems, instant pictures and communications. But sometimes I get nostalgic, missing my old friends from those days. Some have moved away and other have gone to other side of the rainbow. But all have a place in my heart and I have the club to thank for that. On day 30 of watch and all is well. I hope to see y all on the Valentine s Day Cruise and, if not, at least at the meeting. Remember, we moved it to Wednesday the 15th because it fell on the 14 th. Take care and thank you for letting me serve you. Greg Greg Brooks President, Classic Glass Corvette Club Classic Glass Corvette Club 2

3 Chris Reed, NCM Master Ambassador Our first NCM event for 2017 will be the NCM Bash April Would anyone attending the Bash be interested in reserving a table for the banquet Saturday evening? Each table seats ten and the cost is $60 per person. We can reserve a table (or two). Rather than paying for the banquet on your own, I can collect the money and pay when I make the reservation. If interested, please let me know. Please note: the date for Vets n Vettes has been changed to November 2 4. I have free passes for non-members of the NCM for museum tours if interested. 4 Seven Corvettes Auctioned Off for Charity Corvette Forum / Gabriella Massari / November 15, 2016 Jeff Gordon's 2016 Convertible Corvette The Jeff Gordon Children's Foundation recently auctioned off a 2016 convertible Corvette Stingray 3LT in a Corvette raffle that's been held for the past 11 years. The raffle money is put towards research and treatment of childhood cancers, and the foundation has raised $5.7 million dollars through the raffle alone. #001 Corvette Grand Sport Earlier this year, Chevy auctioned off the very first 2017 Corvette Grand Sport Collector's Edition (VIN #001), with proceeds going to the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute. The Grand Sport was sold for $170,000, and the GM Foundation also donated $400, Redskins-Themed Corvette Last year, a custom-painted burgundy and gold Corvette was signed by the 2015 Washington Redskins team and clear-coated to protect the signatures. It sold on ebay for $20,400 dollars, all of which was donated to The Purple Heart Foundation to benefit veterans. The proceeds went to the College of Creative Studies, where automotive designers study. First 2014 C7 Corvette Convertible First 2009 Corvette ZR1 In 2008, Dave Ressler had the winning bid for the first-built "retailable unit" Corvette ZR1. The final bid? $1,000,000 went to the United Way organization. Ressler got a one-of-a-kind Le Mans blue version; the actual Corvette up for auction was not the one on stage at the time (pictured). First 2013 Corvette 427 Convertible In 2012, the first-produced 2013 Corvette 427 convertible was sold at Barrett- Jackson for a whopping $600,000, all of which went towards the charity organization AARP Drive For Hunger. The auction got even more exciting mid-way through, when a Jeff Gordon racing suit and a VIP trip to the 2012 Daytona 500 was thrown into the mix. Making things even sweeter, Eddie Vannoy donated an additional $100,000 towards the final price of the car. 7 Classic Glass News and Notes Doug Reed, VP of Activities: INPUT REQUEST This Picnic is scheduled for July 22, Since I've been a member we have held the annual picnic at Cooper's Furnace near Cartersville. The thought occurred that perhaps a change of scenery might encourage better participation than we had last year. Yes, I do realize that some of you did not show last year due to the sweltering heat and I can't guarantee this year will be much different. The date was discussed at the January Board of Directors meeting and it was decided NOT to change the date. What about a change in venue? I checked with a few people and both Lake Allatoona, which was a previous location before I joined the club, and Carter's Lake were served up as locations. One thing is for sure... WE CANNOT WAIT MUCH LONGER OR RESERVATIONS WILL BE IMPOSSIBLE TO GET. Anyone with knowledge of a location that can accommodate a group of our size with parking accommodations for our Corvettes is asked to contact me ASAP. me today at vpactivities@cgcorvetteclub.com or give me a call at (770) Jim Johannes, Store Manager Buttons, Buttons! We have buttons! These are 3 in diameter! To order: please provide a picture with a good Pixel count. Remember, payment required at time of order. Pricing: 1 10 buttons: $10.00 each; buttons: $8.50 each; 21 or more: $7.70 each. See Jim s contact information and other store items on Page 11. Classic Glass Corvette Club 7

He does not remember who loaned it; however, would appreciate the person contacting him so he may return it. Greg needs a member of the club in good standing to do a club audit. If interested, contact him or Sara Diehl. Pat Enloe stated that this is not a full-fledged audit; more of an informal audit to reconcile the books. Doug Reed, VP Activities: Happy New Year! Looking for ideas and people willing to be an activity manager. He has several ideas and volunteers to help; but welcomes new suggestions and others willing to help. He thanked Dawn Norman for leading the Chick-Fil-A Bowl Parade. Calvin Cruce then spoke about the Chick-Fil-A Bowl Parade. It was fun!
