1 See you at the Holiday Party Dec 17 th at the Metropolitan Club! The Vette Sette A message from our President 2011, The Year in Review I want to talk a little about some of the positive things that took place during the past year. Let s start with some of the ones that I have asked for Larry Yon advice over the year. P.J. Ray, she is probably the most level headed person I know. Whenever I would be upset about something I could always count on her to calm me down. Some of the others that I called on were Joe Owens, Barry Tomlinson, Carl Etter, Doug Reed, Wayne Ray, just to name a few. And, guess what, they were all very supportive whatever the problem might have been at the time. You all know who you are; Thank You. For years, the kids at Calvary Children s Home have always been fun to be around. Over the years we have come to know many of them and have enjoyed watching them grow into young adults. We all hope they continue to participate as part of the Classic Glass family. We can t talk about Super Vette without bringing up Carl Etter and Steve Hodge. What a great job they did with this event! I don t think some people understand the large amount of work they put into this event. Along with that, what about the great sponsors? Smyrna Tire should be on everyone s list when it comes time to get new tires. When you want to step that horse power please think about Vengeance Racing. To all of the others, thanks for helping us out in We should also send out our thanks to Scott Oliver and Chris Johnson for helping to line up these great sponsors. We can t wind up the year without thanking Rick Engle for a wonderful line-up of parades. Did he do a great job or what? My favorite was the Make A Wish parade. Those people were great and have already invited us back for next year. I will never forget Scott staying behind and taking the kid that was late for a ride. It makes me proud to be his friend. During the year there were many different Inside this issue November meeting minutes 2 Dillard cruise 3 Harrison Homecoming parade 4 Veterans Day parade 5 Continued on page 6 Classic Glass Corvette Club Page 1

2 Minutes of the November 8 th general membership meeting Our President Larry Yon called the meeting to order at 7:32pm. Larry welcomed our guests then asked that anyone who had not already received a ballot for the By-Law change to please see Greg Brooks. Larry reviewed club business of: 1) Director s and Officer s Insurance Larry noted that current coverage was severely lacking. Since the club was able to obtain a Federal Identification Number, more companies were willing to offer coverage. Doug Reed had researched several companies and found a company willing to give us coverage at a reasonable price. Steve Waddell made the motion to move forward with the D&O Insurance, Bob Klinger seconded and the motion passed unanimously. In addition, Doug said that in reviewing the current General Liability policy, there was concern that it only covered 1 event and we hold 2 annually (SuperVette and VetteStock). Bob Klinger made the motion to add another event to the policy. Barry Tomlinson seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Larry reminded the group that the cut-off to sign up for the Holiday Party was drawing near. The party will be held at the Metropolitan Club on 12/17. At this time only 49 members have paid. Next PJ Ray presented the Treasurer s Report and called for a motion of acceptance. Chris Reed made the motion. Sandi Johannes seconded and the motion passed unanimously. VP of Activities, Scott Oliver recapped the club s restoration project. He stated that the car was in paint and would be about two weeks before he would need volunteers to put the car back together. Scott thanked Chris Johnson and Carl Etter for the use of their garages. He said that he had a donation box if club members would like to donate money towards the project. John Iroff donated a car cover for the car. Scott also encouraged everyone to sign up for the Children s Healthcare Holiday Parade. Next VP of Membership Chris Johnson welcomed our 2 guests. There were 74 members in attendance. The member-pot winner was Gary Pippel. VP at Large, Greg Brooks asked but received no response to members with new cars. Then he drew for the 50/25/25 pot. The lucky winners were Charlie Koninsky and Toni Etter. Calvin Cruce, Newsletter Editor, thanked all the members who had sent contributions to the newsletter. He told anyone else who was thinking of sending tidbits or articles to bring it on! Our NCM Ambassador, Charlie Koninsky gave a recap of the Vets in Vettes Weekend held November 3-4, 2011 at the Museum. He welcomed the newest Lifetime Member to the NCM, Bob Zajicek. He said the Museum was holding a contest where a club could display a member s car and club information. Under new business, Larry thanked the visitors for coming. Rick Engle spoke to the group about participating in the Veterans Day Parade with Corvette Atlanta. Those participating in the parade need to meet at Sidelines at 8:15am. Larry thanked our Sidelines staff. He also Continued page 6 Statements appearing in The Vette Sette are those of the authors and do not necessarily constitute an opinion of CGCC officers, or editors unless otherwise attributed. 3 Volume XXI Issue 12 December 2011 Steve Waddell, Bob Zajicek, and Keelie Sparks look at the route. Jean Klinger enjoys the top down ride through N. GA and eventually to Dillard for a great lunch at the Dillard House. It was a beautiful day for a drive through the N. GA mountains. Even though it wasn t exactly the one that was planned, we were never lost, we just took the scenic route. It was a fun day for all. It was a beautiful day for a cruise through N. GA There is no way someone should go away from the Dillard House still hungry. No one in our group did. We all did. Page 3

4 Volume XXI Issue 12 December 2011 Lassiter HS grad Brandt Kessler does some last minute cleaning. Rick hands out elastic bands for the door signs. The Lassiter High School Homecoming parade has become an annual event for CGCC. It is by far the most organized high school parade we do. In his role as the parade dude, Rick helps make it so. This year Rick had to choose between two competing schools, Lassiter and Sprayberry, on the same Friday night. Lassiter won out. No candy throwing for our riders made it a safer drive for us. Thanks Rick and Lassiter. See you next year. LHS seniors Nick Cantu and Marin Abousaud are all ready for the parade to start. Ashley Brown and Jared Gantt use several of our cars as the background in one of their photos. New member Barbara Bragg drove her '81 in her first parade event. Classic Glass Corvette Club Page 4

5 Thank you for your service was heard and spoken many times as we worked with Corvette Atlanta to ride the VIP s and dignitaries in Atlanta s Veterans Day Parade. Our own CGCC vets were enthusiastic volunteers for this event. Thanks again to all veterans and active duty personnel. CGCC veterans (LtoR) Wayne Ray, Dave Wagner, Jerry Landers, Butch Chellino, Bob Zajicek, Charlie Koninsky, and Bill Gscheidle drove their cars in the Veterans Day Parade in Atlanta. As usual Cindy Cowart comes up with some great themed decorations. Charlie Koninsky and his rider were all smiles as the parade started. It is hard to say who was having more fun. After the parade we went to the Marietta Diner There are no words to express the patriotic feeling passing by this gigantic American flag. 6 Continued from page 1 interpretations in the By-Laws. Thanks to Greg and his committee, this has been cleared up and voted on by the membership. The big question of D&O insurance has been answered. We have also acquired a Tax ID number for insurance and banking reasons. So, the only thing left to do is to come out and enjoy a great evening at the Metropolitan Club with great food and dancing. And, oh yeah, to elect some new officers to represent us in All and all, it s the people and the great friendships that make Classic Glass what it is. I am very proud to have been given the opportunity to serve as your president. Larry Yon President, Classic Glass Corvette Club P. S. No Regrets Continued from page 2 noted the changes that were happening at Sidelines under the new management (i.e. newly paved parking lot, new satellite system, new chef.) Before opening the floor for nominations of the 2012 Officers, Larry reviewed the ballot to this point. President: VP of Activities VP of Membership VP at Large Board of Directors Greg Brooks / Lilas Pratt Rick Engle / Bob Zajicek Chris Reed / Bob Klinger Ken Cearns / Toni Etter Frank Macaluso Sandi Johannes Steve Waddell Doug Reed The following are the nominations made: Board of Directors Keelie Sparks Jennifer Still Keith Cearns Accepted Accepted Declined With a full ballot, Harriette Majoros made the motion to close the nominations. Scott Oliver seconded and the motion carried unanimously. Larry made the reminder that dues for all Nominees for 2012 Officers must be paid by the end of this meeting. Chevrolet unveiled its 2012 Corvette Daytona Prototype. It will make its competitive debut in the 50th anniversary of the GRAND-AM Road Racing Series Rolex 24 at Daytona from January The 2012 Corvette DP was developed by a multifaceted effort involving Chevrolet, Corvette Designers, Pratt & Miller and GRAND-AM. The design of this race car incorporates iconic Corvette styling cues and will be immediately recognized by sports car enthusiasts and fans said Jim Campbell. The next Board of Director s Meeting is 12/6 at 7pm followed by the Holiday Party on the 17 th. Larry thanked everyone for coming out and with all business concluded, the meeting adjourned at 8:24pm.
