1 THE VETTE SETTE President s Corner As we slip into the crisp cool weather of fall, we remember how great it is to own a Corvette. Fall is a great time for cruising through the North Georgia Mountains with the turning leaves and sweeping turns, top down and heater blasting Classic Glass does several community events each year by donating their time and use of their Corvettes for parades and homecomings. This year has been no exception. We were contacted by the North Georgia Fair committee and asked if we could help them with parading The Company, a group of very talented kids from the Pebblebrook High School. And, have provided cars for Harrison High Schools Homecoming Court. The big event was Petite Le Mans. Several of our members joined Bob Renneke who had setup in his favorite spot just outside of the Suzuki Bridge and enjoyed the race. You can see all the way from turn 9 through turn 12!!! The only other great spot to see that much track is turn 5. It is always fun to watch the staunch competition between the Corvettes and the other GT1 competitors. Corvettes Against Breast Cancer III started a little damp and cool, but turned out to be a great day. Lots of folks made donations and took their Corvette onto the track at Atlanta Motor Speedway and enjoyed some lively laps. PaceSetters put together another great event. Classic Glass also made a $250 donation for a great cause. Cindy Owens and Gary Griffin won awards for their cars. As we move forward, we are taking nominations for the 2006 President and Board of Directors. If you are interested in making a nomination, please contact Don Shamel, Jack Kreger, Hillary Dukas, or myself. Or, if you are interested in running for an office, you can contact the same folks. A list of those nominees A Monthly Publication For The Members of The Volume XV Issue 10 October 2005 Page 1 we currently have is posted later in this newsletter. We almost have a full ballot!!! And without having to do too much dentistry We have more fun events coming up this year with the 3 rd Annual Cherohala Skyway Cruise and Picnic. This has been a great event to try and tame the Tail of the Dragon. This may be the last year we get to do the entire tail of 318 turns in 11 miles since they are planning to put a major highway through the middle of it. I for one am looking forward to the event. Our Annual Holiday Party and December Meeting will be held on December 3 rd at the Timber Ridge Conference Center. Invitations and details will be going out in the mail shortly. Please bring a donation of either boy s jeans sizes 5-10 or children s underwear/socks or pajamas to the Holiday Party. These will be donated to the Foster Care Foundation as we have in the past. We are also getting ready for the Needy Family program this year and have already had a great response with volunteers to shop for the families. Since we have had such a great show season this year, we will be increasing the number of families from last year. We will be also preparing for our annual outing with Calvary Children s Home. We will schedule that event in the January/February timeframe. After all. It s about the people who love the car! Every day is a Ragtop day! Joe Officers for 2005 President Joe Owens

Ray Board Members John Iroff Jack Kreger Bob Renneke Barry Tomlinson NCM Ambassador Ron Floyd Webmaster Bridget Stephens Newsletter Editor Cindy Owens Editor s Corner By Cindy Owens Hello Corvette Lovers! We are nearing the end of the year and this year has been a phenomenal one. We have contributed to our community as well as to each other. We have shown other clubs how much fun we have together. We have also shown that when we get behind a cause or event, that CLASSIC GLASS RULES! Thru the year CGCC has participated in various club events with other clubs and out of those I think we have had 100% club participation. It makes me very happy to be a member of a club with so much enthusiasm. After 5 years of doing the newsletter, it is with much regret that I need to seek a recruit to take this important task. The Newsletter needs new makeup and I know there are some very creative people just waiting for this opportunity. So please call me or Joe and let us know if you are interested. As always, if you have any news worthy articles, or just something to put into the newsletter, send it to me at cindyowens@mindspring.com. As Always, Have a SUNNIE day! Cindy Page 2 Volume XV Issue 10 October 2005 ** Upcoming Event ** Nov. 12, rd Annual Cherohala Skyway Cruise and Picnic. We will travel to Blairsville for breakfast at the Cookie Jar Restaurant. Then we will travel to the Cherohala Skyway where the Tail of Dragon provides some great driving and scenic views. We will then have a picnic at one of the overlooks (bring your own lunch). Then we will cruise back. Some of our members will be staying over night in Hiawassee or Brasstown Valley. Check the website for more details. Should be a great time! ** Upcoming Event ** December 3, 2005 Our last regular meeting of 2005 and our annual Holiday Party will be held at the Timber Ridge Conference Center. Please be sure to sign up on the website so that we can get a headcount. We once again will have live entertainment and other surprises. More details will follow shortly. ** Events you may have missed ** On September 24, more than 23 of our Classic Glass friends attended the Corvette Roundup with American Dream Corvette Club in Gainesville. We had a great day and the cruise was just as great. We all participated in the Poker Run and our own Tonie Etter won the prize. We toured Milton Robson s garage museum and marveled at the variety of cars in one place. We had a great Bar-B-Que lunch and a lot of socializing. Some of our members took home top 25 honors and most important, Classic Glass took home the $100 Most Club Participants award. ** Events you may have missed ** The weekend of Sept. 29,30 and Oct. 1 was one not to be missed if you like listening to loud exhausts and watch cars go fast. Petit Le Mans was held at Road Atlanta this weekend and many of us made the drive to cheer our corvettes in yellow on to yet another win. The Corvette Corral was a great parking place to leave your car and then partake in all of the other activities that was happening around the track. At one point, it was estimated that there was over 300 cars in the Corral. The NCM was there to sell merchandise and let the public become familiar with them. One of our members Jim Lyons even got to spend time down in the Pits with the actual crew of the Corvette Team. I know a lot of people who would have loved to have been in his shoes. After all was said and done, the #4 car finished 1 st in class and the #3 car had a problem with the engine. ** Events you may have missed ** The day of Oct. 8 started off very damp and soggy but with optimism that the day was going to get better, 7 corvettes departed from Sidelines to go to Atlanta Motor Speedway for the 3 rd Corvettes Against Breast Cancer Cruise. We made it to the track as the sun was coming up and for a mere $25 we were able to do 5 laps around the speedway. And did I mention that there was no limit on the laps as long as you paid another $25. We had a great time with more and more corvettes showing up as time went on. We then had a car show behind the speedway where about 60 cars were registered. Reece Cox had his autocross set up

3 and quite a few people participated. There was a silent auction and many door prizes given. Classic Glass donated $250 to the Breast Cancer Foundation. Some of our members received Best of Class awards but we all felt like we had contributed to a good cause. As the Steering Wheel Turns By Joe Owens Not much this month. Sunnie is a little bit happier with us since I installed the new set of Bilstein shocks. No more leaks! But, I still need to take her into the shop for the air conditioning issue. However, since the weather has turned cooler, I need the heat now and can put off the other repair to spring. Tequila has a list of things that she wants for Christmas as well as Blue. I hope that Santa will be good to us all. As we move to the cooler months of fall and winter, I will have more time to spend on upgrades and maintenance items. The Busted Knuckle Garage is moving downstairs now that the new bathroom is almost finished. We are looking forward to it. We will see you next month with more tales from the Busted Knuckle Garage. Corvette Racing Update C6R Corvette Racing The Corvettes have finished the year on an upbeat note! The boys in yellow have completed the 2005 ALMS race season on top with wins at Petit Le Mans and Laguna Seca. Petit Le Mans was a very grueling race this year with lots of good close competition from the Austin Martins and the Saleen. Oliver Gavin, Olivier Beretta, and Jan Magnussen in the #4 Corvette not only won the GT1 class, but also came in 3 rd overall and posted a podium finish along side the P1 cars. The #3 car was out after 357 laps with a mechanical failure that ended its hopes at a top 3 position in this race. Laguna Seca was another great 1-2 finish for Team Corvette with the #4 winning the GT1 class and the #3 close behind in 2 nd place. This race also clinched the GT1 driver s championship for the Ollies Oliver Gavin and Olivier Beretta with 197 points only 19 points ahead of Ron Fellows and Johnny O Connell. Corvette Racing also clinched the Manufacturers Championship and the Team Championship! Great Job!! If you have a Corvette for sale, we will put it into the newsletter for 1 month free of charge. The ad can have up to 3 lines and contain only a basic description and contact information. After that you can run an extended ad for 6 months and only have to pay $10 for members and $25 for non-members. This should be a great new feature to the newsletter. If you have any questions, please contact Joe or Cindy Owens. ** Corvette items for free ** - Complete cat back exhaust system that came off of a 99 Corvette shortly after being purchased new. A little dusty, but basically like new. - Left rear bumper for a mid-year. Slight bend in the vertical portion. Could likely be straightened and replated if necessary. First come, first served.
