1 THE VETTE SETTE President s Corner Here we are heading into the Dog Day s of summer No, not the UGA kind ;-) First I want to thank all of our Volunteers that helped make the Sock Hop and Super Vette Saturday the best ever! Without you, we would not be able to perform such an amazing task. Now onto the regular program We started the last month with Tequila s First Annual Wine Tour. The response was overwhelming! We had a great time tasting at Three Sisters Winery. Several took home their favorite vintage for later consumption. Then we made our way up to Habersham Winery for an informative tour and tasting. You would be amazed at the tidbits of information you can learn at a winery. Our last stop was Hans Restaurant in Helen. We took over the entire Lounge area on the third floor for some great German food. We are going to try and put together another tour in cooler weather as we had several close calls with wine bottles overheating and one casualty of all things, a red wine in a light colored interior due to the hot weather! DOHHHHH!! Keep your eyes open. The Sock Hop was an even bigger and better event than last year. We had almost 100 folks attend the Sock Hop and dance the night away to the tunes from the 50 s, 60 s and 70 s as presented by our band The Sock Hops. We danced so much and with such vigor we rotated the dance floor about 2 feet! (insert Chubby Checker s Twist joke here). Once again, the adage by Dave Hill stands true, God loves Corvettes! as the weather cooperated again and we had pretty much a great day for a car show for Super Vette Saturday. The morning started overcast and daunting, but cleared by 1:00 PM or so to shine bright on that beautiful sea of fiberglass. We A Monthly Publication For The Members of The Page 1 had 156 Corvettes registered and another that came by and took a look. Some of our friends from the Columbus area didn t fair so well. They ran into rain about 30 minutes out from Columbus and turned back. They should have come on up, the cars were already wet! Johnny O Connell was a great hit with his stories of Corvette Racing and then promoting his Corvette Camp. We had him auction some items off for us like a set of Kumho tires, an electric scooter, a RV package and one of the door signs from the drivers paddock at Le Mans France. Now if we could just get Johnny to come out of his shell and open up I want to personally thank everyone that attended both the Sock Hop and Super Vette Saturday. I also hope that everyone enjoyed themselves and will plan on returning next year for an even bigger and better event. Our next outing is to make the Operation One Voice run from Alpharetta to Ft. Benning near Columbus. This benefits the families of fallen soldiers. Then we venture to the Mountain City Corvette Association Show and Drags in Chattanooga. It is going to prove to be another great outing!! Hope to see all of you there! We have plenty of events on the horizon to keep us busy through the rest of the summer and on into fall. Check our website regularly to see what new events are there and plan on attending. You won t regret it. After all. It s about the people who love the car! Every day is a Ragtop day! Joe

2 Officers for 2005 President Joe Owens Vice President At Large Randy Cooper Vice President of Membership Don Shamel Vice President of Activities Gail & Robert Smith Secretary Cheryl Tomlinson Treasurer P.J. Ray Board Members John Iroff Jack Kreger Bob Renneke Barry Tomlinson NCM Ambassador Ron Floyd Webmaster Bridget Stephens Newsletter Editor Cindy Owens Editor s Corner By Cindy Owens Hello Corvette Lovers! SuperVette Saturday has come and gone and from all accounts, it was the most successful show to date. But with all of the best volunteers and best sponsors, how could it not be? Next year, we will have to kick it up a notch to top this one. We will also have to work on getting more of our Classic Glass members to participate. The ratio this year was 52 CGCC versus 104 non-cgcc, compared to last year of 60 CGCC members versus 93 non-cgcc. SuperVette Saturday is not the end of Classic Glass Activities. Check the event calendar on the website to see what I mean. Remember to mark your calendars for the Mountain City excursion we are planning in September. Look for more details later in this newsletter. Now is the time to start thinking about New Officers and Directors and Renewals for next year. Our leadership has done a great job this year and I m sure next year will be the same. Last year we finished the year with 245 members. A year ago this month, we had 223 members. This year we have 205. I will be putting a Renewal Form in all of the newsletters starting next month. Please fill this out and Page 2 send it in. At the start of January 2005, we had 154 members renew. Let s see if we can beat this. As always, if you have any news worthy articles, or just something to put into the newsletter, send it to me at cindyowens@mindspring.com. As Always, Have a SUNNIE day! Cindy ** Upcoming Event ** Have you ever wanted to say you remember that time at camp?. Well now you can. Johnny O Connell will be holding his inaugural Corvette Camp on September 17 & 18. You will have the opportunity to see what you and your Corvette can do on a racetrack with the emphasis on speed, fun and safety. For more information see ** Upcoming Event ** September Mountain City Corvette Association is holding their 8 th Annual Corvette Show and Drags in Chattanooga, TN. We have blocked 10 rooms at the Howard Johnson s in Chattanooga. It is off of exit 1A. Please see the website for more details. We will be going up for the cook out sponsored by Mountain City CA and then we will follow that with good old Classic Glass fun. The official Classic Glass Blender will be attending also. On Sunday will have the show and drags. Come out and join the rest of CGCC in supporting one of our sister clubs and enjoy a great weekend of fun, show and drag racing ** Special Cruise In Event ** We have been informed that on the 1 st Saturday of every month there is a Breakfast Cruise In at the Avenues in East Cobb. This is on Roswell Rd off of Johnson Ferry Rd. We will get more details on this and add it to the Web Page under Cruise In s. As the Steering Wheel Turns By Joe Owens After all of the hard work I put into the top end of Blue, I was testing her out and once she got warm she started acting like she was not getting enough gas. A check with our Corvette Guru s and a heat sink plate later, she is good as new. She even proved it by getting her first 1 st place trophy at Super Vette Saturday! Sunnie has decided to pitch a temper(ature) tantrum and blow hot air on the driver side and cold air on the passenger side. I guess it is time to tear into the dash and find out why. Maybe she just wants some attention After all we left her alone in the garage at home on Super Vette Saturday for the first time.

3 Tequila is having the time of her life bonding with Cindy. We will be making the inaugural run to Bowling Green for the Labor Day Celebration. Maybe she will be a lucky lady and win a trophy in the Celebrity Choice Car Show. Yellow was a lucky color for Sunnie; maybe DSOM will be a lucky color for Tequila as well. We will see you next month with more tales from the Busted Knuckle Garage. Corvette Racing Update C6R Corvette Racing Sibling rivalry can be a good thing. The #3 and #4 C6-R cars keep testing the drivers and challenging each other for the win, plus it keeps the drivers on their toes. This last race at Portland was no exception. The #4 car, driven by Oliver Gavin and Olivier Beretta, won their second ALMS victory of the 2005 season edging out the #3 car driven by Johnny O Connell and Ron Fellows by only.623 seconds!!! Don t blink or you will miss that one. The Corvettes continue to dominate everything but the P1 and P2 cars. They finished 5 th and 6 th overall just behind 3 P1 cars and 1 P2 car. Get them on a more even playing field and say bye-bye to the P cars Corvette Trivia 1. In the 1971 model year, you could order an automatic transmission on the ZR1 package. True or False 2. 4 Super Vette Saturday By Cindy Owens The Friday Night Sock Hop was again a great success. This year we tried something new. We had a live band called The Sock Hops. They are a local band that performs at local events and at Houck s, a bar and dance establishment. They performed many of our favorites from the 50 s, 60 s and 70 s. We gave away Best Dressed Awards based on the crowd s favorite. Roxanne Roseberry and Walt Baer walked away with these. After hours of dancing the night away it was time to say goodnight and get ready for our important day tomorrow. Super Vette Saturday started out to be a partly cloudy day but that was ok because it wasn t raining. This year we were prepared for the early cars that we knew would show up. We had our great crew of volunteers positioned and ready. Fred O Neill and his wife Ann did a great job with the announcements and door prizes. The registrations started coming in at a steady pace and would not stop until well after noon. The silent auction was a great success. Did I mention that Johnny O Connell helped us auction some special items? Including a sign plate from Max Papis. Adam Boca and his wife Kelly, with the help of Ron and Robin Floyd came down to represent the NCM. They told us they doubled what they had done last year. Bobby Kay had the club store open and our many vendors filled the Vendor Area. The Ice Cream Guy made quite a hit especially when the temperatures started to rise. At promptly 2:00pm, we had the loudest exhaust sound off with Johnny O Connell doing the judging. At 2:30 pm, awards were given out to the Peoples Choice in all generations of the Corvettes. A special award in honor of Ed Tillerson was given to Joe and me for contributing to the corvette community. This was quite an honor for us both. We ended the show promptly at 3:00pm. Thanks to Days Chevrolet and Reese Cox and MTI Racing for being Sponsors again this year. And a special thanks to all of our volunteers. We couldn t have done it with out you.
