1 President s Corner The first of the spring car shows have come and gone with much fanfare. We are continuing to fill the calendar with fun things to do and new places to visit. Some we don t even know where we are headed Several of our members went to The Gathering X at Tybee Island and had a great time in the sand and surf and eating lots of great seafood. 2 out of 3 of our clubs cars came away with trophies, Congratulations! A few brave souls ventured out that same weekend to the Vettes of the South Corvette Show hosted by Lanier Corvettes. The weather was a little daunting as it looked like rain and even sprinkled a little bit on us, but it held off until after we got back home. It looks like Joel Alterman is following in Mike McCarson s tradition of showing up at a show, leaving early and winning an award. Congratulations Joel! Tequila won an award for best original, who knew?! Bogey s was another huge success! We had 49 cars registered and another large handful came by to look and drool. We want to congratulate Jack Kreger for getting Bogey s Choice and Mark Martell for winning Best In Show! The weather was very much cooperative this year as it was quite warm and not one drop of liquid sunshine. I think the American Eagle trophies went over very well, Thank You Cindy for another great idea on trophies. This article is being written the same weekend as the Panama City Run and the Year One Experience. Cindy and I didn t get to go to Panama City, but we met up with Mark Martell, Jack Kreger, and Dan Casey for a great day of fun at Road Atlanta. We took part in parade laps, well they call them parade laps, I don t think a marching band could have kept up unless they were in a Z06, watched the autocross and even took part in the Audi Challenge where we drove a couple of TT s through a dry/wet course and got to see how well the traction control worked while the instructors tried to spin us out with the emergency brake. We saw several, including Dan Casey, that would make Robert 360 Dukas proud! The drag THE VETTE SETTE A Monthly Publication For The Members of The Volume XVII Issue 5 May, 2007 Page 1 racing was fun and we even saw a Ford Ranger pickup beat the crap out of a Viper in the quarter mile! I don t think the Viper driver will be bragging about that one Don t forget about our Volunteer Work Weekend at the National Corvette Museum June 2-3. It is more of a fun weekend than work we have lots of folks signed up to go. Those of us who have participated in previous years have had a great time. Upcoming is a couple of day cruises in June. The first to Barnsley Gardens on June 9 th and the second is to a Mystery location on June 16 th. Check the website for more details. We are still looking for donations for Super Vette Saturday. We have had a few items donated already and are hoping to have tons of stuff for the auctions and give-a-ways. Just let me know when you get them and I will warehouse them in my garage.if you have questions or recommendations, please do not hesitate to give me a call or drop me a line in an . There is one final item this month. It is with heavy heart that I relay to those of you who haven t heard, but Bill Gohr s wife Dotty lost her long battle with her health. Please join me in expressing our condolences to Bill and his family and keep them in your prayers. Dotty will be greatly missed. May peace be with you. After all. It s about the people who love the car! Joe In Memory of Dottie Gohr, CGCC Member and wife of Bill Gohr

4 Welcome New Members: Larry Bagley and Donna Johansen Columbus, GA Coupe Larry and Stacy Lopez Smyrna, GA th Anniversary Alexander Lopez (son of Larry and Stacy) Smyrna, GA no corvette yet! E. E. and Betty Williams Atlanta, GA T-Top Ramzi and Amy Jubran Woodtock, GA Millennium Yellow Coupe David Riccio Roswell, GA C6 Coupe Douglas and Mary Tons Marietta, GA Coupe and 2000 Coupe Comments from VP of Membership: WOW again. What a great meeting we had in May with 80 members present. It was also nice to present the new member package to Joel Alterman, Don and Frances Luther, Lonnie and Carol Parham and Danny and Meredith Moore. Remember, if you are a new member of the Club (2007) and would like to receive your new member package, please come to the meeting so I can present you with your Club pin, your Classis Glass static cling decal, your nametag and a copy of the By-Laws. As of the Board meeting, we have had 12 new members join Classic Glass. Please help me in welcoming the following newest members - Larry Bagley and Donna Johansen, Larry & Stacy Lopez, Alexander Lopez, E.E. & Betty Williams, Ramzi & Amy Jubran, David Riccio and Douglas and Mary Tons. With these newest additions, Classic Glass is now 208 members strong. Just remember, new members, that it will help you to get to know other members of the Club by attending some of the many events scheduled by our VP of Activities, Cindy Owens. This is a good way to get to know people on a more personal basis and form true friendships - besides getting out and driving our beloved Corvettes. Have a great May and we will see you at the meeting in June if not before. Save the Wave...Hillary This and That: SHHHHHH --- it is not official as yet, but Fred Hale has attained the status of Master Ambassador. That shows how hard he works for the NCM and us. He was the organizer of the recent work weekend attended by 14 hard working members. Kudos Fred!! In other news, the 2008 Corvette gets a new LS3 6.2-liter V8 that bumps power output to 430 horses. Wheels have been updated for the new model year and a number of new standard features have been added, including an MP3 jack, standard XM satellite radio, upgraded interior trim and a quicker-shifting automatic transmission. So ask Bill Majoros how it is to ride shotgun from Dothan AL to PCB in a 2008! He bought the seat in an auction. Page 4

6 From the Editor How can you beat a long weekend with the Plant Manager, Q.C. manager, Vehicle Assembly Engineering Plant Master, and the C-6 exterior designer and Wendell Strobe from the Museum!?! 10 cars started out from Sidelines and later on in the day, two more came to the Old National in Dothan. There was dinner and some small speech making and lots of intros and we went off to chat and all. Some were washing their cars at the wash station set up by the Circle City Corvette Club, others detailing while a good many were looking over the cars. Friday morning saw us line up with Kelly Robinson, Pres. of CCVC in front, Will Cooksey, plant manager, Bill Majoros in the passenger seat with Tony Norris VAEPM driving the yellow 2008! Harriette followed and then Darryl Gunter with Bill Gohr in the passenger seat followed with the rest of our people in the pack. The almost 125 Vettes were on their way, police escort and all to the state line. What a sight in the rear view mirror! Sat a.m. had seminars conducted by many of the Corvette Plant folks and then came dinner in the evening at the Marriott Bay Pointe. The auction raised just shy of 10K for the NCM, with the CGCC donating the $100 prize money for the most in attendance back to the Museum. John & Donna Pardus came away as big winners in the big 50/50 drawing. Ask Joe and Ruth Collins to show you the rare poster they bought at the auction. What impressed us the most was the total accessibility to the plant people, the dedication of these folks and how much they just totally love the car. Many of us caravanned back on Sunday and all who went will tell you this is a don t miss event. Let s try for 20 cars next year! The more the merrier. Page 6
