1 THE VETTE SETTE A Monthly Publication For The Members of The President s Corner Cough!! Cough!! Wheeze!! The pollen fairy has been very busy this month. Sometimes it is a good thing to have a yellow car the pollen doesn t show as much on yellow as any other color. Small blessings I guess We have just put the wraps on another GREAT show down at the Georgia World Congress Center with the 2005 AJC International Auto Show. A HUGE Thanks to Jack Kreger for putting this together with the folks at the GWCC again this year. If just a small portion of the folks that picked up flyers and club cards show at the events or join the club, we will have tremendous return on the time that everyone invested in the booth. Since the March meeting, we have had our Annual Head to the Highlands event. The details on the event will be listed later in the newsletter. Let s just say, CGCC knows how to have fun!! The NCM Cruise to the Western Caribbean was fabulous! We have lots of stories just ask us... The highlight of the trip had to be the swimming with the Stingrays in Grand Cayman. I was taught how to catch one and hold it; and lift it up so that you can see its smile! They are a little menacing to look at under water, but these have had years of people interaction and are as docile as most pets. It was also very informative listening to the guest speaker Gary Claudio. He and his wife Beverly are great people and a pleasure to be around. We have a contingent going to Bowling Green for the C5/C6 Birthday Bash and are looking forward to seeing, hearing, and caressing the new Z06. From what we saw at the Auto Show, the car looks awesome and we are anticipating it to be another huge success for GM. The folks down in Savannah/Tybee Island are putting on their The Gathering VIII April There is going to be plenty of representation of Classic Glass from what I can tell so far. It should be another great memory making event. Be sure to bring those cars out to Bogey s in Woodstock for our Annual VetteStock show. This is a great way to kick off the summer car show season. If you need flyers, let me know. We also need additional items for door prizes, get with Gail or me if you have collected any donations. The Champagne Show of the South in Birmingham is going to be May 14 th. It will be a 1-day event instead of the two-day show they have held in the past. It will be held at the Galleria Costco, which is near the location they used to use. Check their website for more details at: Super Vette Saturday will be upon us before you know it. We will be having a new feature this year at the Sock Hop Friday night; we will have the band The Sock Hops. We have seen them perform live at the park in Marietta and they are WONDERFUL! Please check with Gail Smith for information on what we still need in the way of volunteers and donations. Make sure you pickup some flyers at the next meeting and put them on every Corvette you see. We want this year s show to be even bigger and better than last years. After all. It s about the people who love the car! Every day is a Ragtop day! Joe Page 1

2 Officers for 2005 President Joe Owens Vice President At Large Randy Cooper Vice President of Membership Don Shamel Vice President of Activities Gail & Robert Smith Secretary Cheryl Tomlinson Treasurer P.J. Ray Board Members John Iroff Jack Kreger Bob Renneke Barry Tomlinson NCM Ambassador Ron Floyd Webmaster Bridget Stephens Newsletter Editor Cindy Owens Editor s Corner By Cindy Owens Hello Corvette Lovers! We have just returned from our annual NCM cruise to the Western Caribbean and it was great! We had a wonderful time and met a lot of new and interesting people. A must do for those who would like a different type of vacation. For those of you who missed the Highlands trip to North Carolina, this was a great trip. The drive up was picture perfect; the wine tasting was great as well as the meal afterwards. If anyone has heard about the wardrobe malfunction during the after dinner entertainment, it s true. I have pictures to prove it. As always, if you have any news worthy articles, or just something to put into the newsletter, send it to me at cindyowens@mindspring.com. As Always, Have a SUNNIE day! Highlands IV By Cindy Owens Cindy Our trip started early on Saturday morning with the forecast being clear but cool. We made the trip with 17 cars including 2 brand new C6 s. Our first stop at the Creekside Deli was met with a parade through downtown Cleveland. As we pulled in a lot of early parade viewers thought we were the beginning of the parade. But little did they know we were heading in the opposite direction and just there for lunch. After lunch, we proceeded to Clayton for our fuel and bio-stop. From there we made our way up the mountain towards Highlands. Once at the MainStreet Inn, we found the Classic Glass Club Banner waiting to welcome us. After settling in to our rooms and some individual shopping, the majority made their way to the local wine and cheese shop for a private wine tasting party. There was quite a few candid moments during the tasting and very few came away empty handed. Jan and Ferrell had a dinner buffet awaiting our return which proved to be very delicious. After a brief after dinner intermission, it was time for the Classic Glass Players to present the evening entertainment. Jack Kreger and Bob Renneke were the focus of the evenings adventure into the Class Glass world of retirement. Cameo appearances were made by the Time Traveler Don Shamel, the Classic Glass Retirement Home administrator-toni Etter, Nurse Good Body Lynn Kreger, a Shyster Attorney Tom Sauntry, a Funeral Home Director Bill Gohr, the Physical Therapist Terri Martell, and last but not least, Bob s wife Suzanne and the Pool Boy / Love Interest, Mark Martell. There was not a dry eye in the house at the end of the evening. The show was rated slightly more than PG-13, and I hear tail there are videos floating of the entire production. The month of April will start our busy season for car shows, cruises and get-togethers. Our first major show, VETTESTOCK will be at Bogey s on May 7th. Be sure to come out for this. Joe and I are still planning Sunnie s Wine Cruise up to Helen and the North Georgia Mountains. We will cruise to 2 wineries, lunch in Helen, do some shopping and then cruise back home. We will be starting on the calendar early this year. I will have my camera ready to get those pictures. Our goal this year will be to have it ready to go to press by September, earlier if possible. Page 2 The following morning we were greeted by a wonderful breakfast and a beautiful cruise through the North Georgia Mountains. Be sure not to miss next year s trip. Teddy Bear Collection in progress Thank You! We have had a very good response to our Teddy Bear collection. Harriette Majoros will be coordinating the delivery of the bears to the Cobb County Police and Fire Department. We will make sure everyone is notified when we have the date. It makes my very happy to see our clubs enthusiasm for this great cause! Good Job!!

3 As the Steering Wheel Turns By Joe Owens Thanks to Wayne Ray, Sunnie has new shoes to go with those new socks. A trip to Butler Tire to have them installed and a high-speed balancing makes a huge difference in the ride. The old tires could have doubled for drag slicks, because they were Blue had fun at the AJC Auto Show spending time with the other 4 generations. It was probably the first time in about a year that someone other than myself drove Blue and according to Jack Kreger, she behaved herself. There is a rumor that Dave Hill indicated at the Grand Prix of Atlanta race that Beige and Gray tops should be back into production soon The jury is still out on that one. So for now, we will just bide our time waiting for Tequila. We will see you next month with more tales from the Busted Knuckle Garage. A: June 1, 1957 B: June 1, 1981 C: Sept. 2, 1994 D: Sept. 2, 1995 Answers on the last page The Corvette Racing Team has had their ups and downs already this season. Their downs were at Sebring this year. A brake rotor disintegrated while Johnny O Connell was driving and almost cost us an entire car, but some quick thinking and great driving by Johnny saved the car and he managed to limp it into the pits for repairs. The Sebring race ended with the Austin Martin finishing in the top spot for GT1 followed by the #3 car only one lap down after the brake problems and third place was the #4 car after battling back from repairs as well in the weaning minutes of the race. The Grand Prix of Atlanta was the ups!! The Johnny O Connell and Ron Fellows in the #3 car took first place with a full lap to spare. Olivier Beretta and Oliver Gavin in the #4 car finished second even after losing 3 places earlier due to a spinout in turn 10. The Team and the C6R are headed for many more wins with the skill and support they receive. Good Luck Corvette Racing!!! We are all behind you!
