Presidents Report Hello EAMC Members, Half way through the year and boy hasn t that time flown by, with so much going on in everyone s lives sometimes you have to take five minutes and smell the roses, lay in the sun or go for a ride on your motorbike. 2 Dedicated to the restoration and use of American made motorcycles manufactured before and including the year 1966 Committee President: Michael Tolj Vice President: Stefan Hussey Secretary: Glen McAdam Treasurer: Jeremy Bromley Editor: Group Effort Events Co-ordinator: Andrew Scudds Vehicle Examiner: Bill Walton Wayne Elezovich Safety Coordinator: Brian Smallwood Property Officer: Chris Gielis Webmaster: Michael Tolj Patron Wayne Elezovich Members Stefan Hussey Jim Merkouris, Jason Hancock PO Box 184 Tuart Hill WA 6939 Club fees are $35.00 per annum and due on the 31st December. Nomination Fee of $20.00 Cheques made payable to: Early American Motorcycle Club Foundation members: Alan Anderson, Allan Eaton, Audrey Wood, Bill Walton, Bill White, Bob Green, Dave Bunning, Dave Pearcey, Ed Buegge*, George Wood, Graeme Davis, Graham Datson, Ian Fitzgerald, Ivor Wigley, Jeremy Bromley, John Griffin, Joseph Brajkovich, Ken Dickman, Linda Forsyth, Matthew Powell, Murray Morell, Norman Lewis, Rod Lewis, Rex McRae, Rod Payze, Rolf Jorgensen, Stan Butler*, Stuart Fyfe, Sue Leitch, Ward Adamson, Wayne Elezovich * Deceased Life Members: Rod Lewis 2009, Jeremey Bromley 2010, Ivor Wigley 2011, Geo Wood 2011, Wayne Elezovich 2012, Glen McAdam Sunday just gone we did that, a small group headed out for an impromptu ride and a coffee. A short ride to the Dome in Kalamunda and then we sat and talked about life, motorbikes and enjoyed each other s company, a diverse bunch of blokes from different backgrounds with an age span of 20 years or more, yet we all have a common interest. After coffee, the group parted ways some for other activities and some continued on for a ride. The weather was cool and crisp, just the type of dense air that our old side valve engines love. The sun was shining and it was a glorious day, the light filtered and mottled through the trees as we rode, occasionally in the shadows you hit a cold spot of air that made you shiver only to pop out the other side once more to bask in the sun. The foothills of Perth have so much to offer, the roads are quiet, well at least they are until we pass by. No agenda and no destination we just ambled our way around; Bickley, Pickering Brook, Karragullen, Araluen and Byford; the hills turned on a spectacular location, no hurry we have plenty of time. I ride a motorbike for days like these, and days like these are enhanced by the people that you share the journey with. Whether it s for a short time or all the way to the end. Ride Safe, Play Safe and see you out there. Cheers Mike President EAMC earlyamericanmc@gmail.com
Ride Report Rumble in the Valley By Mike Not a scheduled ride on our calendar, but an opportunity to get out and join thousands of other people at Oakover Winery in the Swan Valley for the Rumble in the Valley. A bike meet organised by the Perth Café Racer club held at the Vintage Collective Markets. What a massive turn out on the day, Vintage Bikes, Vintage Cars, Hot Rods, Café Racers, vintage wares and a handful of American Bikes to boot. Occasionally it is a good thing to step out of our normal type events and experience something different. We still get plenty of admiration for bikes, but theses period type events are a real eye opener. The bobbers wheel to wheel 3
Ride Report Whiteman Park 2015 By Mike Another Annual event on our calendar and one that is usually a great day out, this year there was still plenty of interest in our bikes from the members of the public that were there. Numbers were down this year on previous years, whether it was because the V8 s were on the same week-end or maybe the weather kept people away. Either way it was quiet compared with previous attendances. Wayne s 48 Bobber We had a good turnout of bikes and members and the occasional start made the viewers come to see what all the noise was about. Not far from our usual patch were the boys from the Aviation Museum with their trailer mounted Merlin V12 engine which they periodically spun to the delight of onlookers everywhere. Thanks to our members that came out on the day. Kev s Round Tank Indian Whiteman Park images by Perthect Images 4

Ride Calendar June 21 st Andrew s Jolly Julimar Jaunt Meeting at Alfead s Kitchen in Guildford 8.30am for a 9am sharp departure. Nice country run, should be finished by 2pm, all welcome. Andrew Saddle Up June 2015 Whiteman Park in early May was a welcome change from previous years when it was in March and was typically a hot day uncomfortable for both spectators and people displaying. Unfortunately the numbers were well down on previous years both vehicles and the general public, not to mention from a club perspective also with only 5 members turning up. Never the less is was a pleasant day, we had fun and a big thanks to those who made the effort to bring the bikes and to Toljy for the ChuckWagon. There were 2 other Non-official club events in May; we had the Arthur Grady display in Freo which saw a couple of Members attend, thanks very much for the effort. Also there is the Rumble in the Valley at Oakover wines in the Swan Valley on the 25 th, all encouraged to display their bikes, bring the family for a great day. This is coinciding with the vintage fair, so plenty to see and do, so if you re interested, contact Michael Tolj. July 12th Chris & Mike s Aeronautical Aviation Amble meeting 9am at BP Road House Kewdale. River run and tour of the Aviation Museum in Bullcreek. Organised by Chris & Mike. August 9 th Pop s Purposeful Petrol Put Put Meet Perth Harley in Cannington at 9.30 am. Some back roads throughout the hills ending up in Mundaring for a coffee. Ride over by September 13 th Matthew s Meandering Motorcycles Mount Details TBA October AGM dates TBA November 6 th 13 th Albany Hill Climb & EAMC Southern Adventure Rally. Reserve the date more details TBA Other Events (optional) June will see us return to one of our favorite runs, I m leading us out North through Chittering and on out to Todyay for Lunch via the Julimar Forrest. Weather permitting, this is well worth the effort and would encourage everyone to get onboard and enjoy the lush green rolling hills and country air. So if we don t see you at Oakover for the Rumble in the Valley, we hope to see you in June for a jaunt out in the country. Winter Maintenance Note: With the change in weather we are likely to encounter wet conditions, so please take the time to check your machines vitals and prepare for the worst, ie. Tyres, Brakes, bearings, controls, tail/brake lights and electrical systems as a minimum. I also advise a nice coating of CRC or WD40 inside the distributor & cap, coil connections and the ends of the plug leads will reduce breakdown of spark when wet. Put on the correct riding gear and pack the wet weather gear just in case.. REMEMBER - Keep up the maintenance, ride safe and stay upright 7 Andrew Scudds
Safety to the fore Winter Safety Issues A Work in Progress It s that time of the year to run the eye over the bike/bikes and just do a pre winter check. I found a couple of loose bolts on the 47 Chief the other day so I had a good look at the usual bits and pieces and am now satisfied that it can be safely ridden regardless of what the weather can throw at us. Tyres are fine, wheels all good and nothing appears to be out of the ordinary. So it is just up to me to apply some smart winter riding rules such as, read the road more carefully, leave a little more braking space, try not to get out of line on the bends so much and to keep an eye out for winter debris. There are so many YouTube videos available on the subject of how not to ride a motorcycle(complete chaos) maybe we should put our own compilation together, organize a movie night, put on the trackies and ugg boots and bring the port and have a damn good laff at the sheer bloody madness of some of the action. Not a bad way to get the message across me thinks. At least with the cold and wet weather about to hit us there may be less instances of blatting down the road clad in shorts, tee shirt and Japanese safety boots. And then again maybe not. Splice the mainbrace and ride with a degree of sanity. Beware of the 2 wheeled Lycra brigade and the tooth flossing texting teenager with a set of well-hidden P plates. Brian S 8
