1 PAGEANT DATE: Saturday August 9, :00 p.m. Miss Kane County Princess/Queen Scholarship Pageant 2014 PAGEANT LOCATION: Kanab High School Auditorium DIRECTORS: Jacey Heaton Jill Miner SCHEDULE (Subject to change) May 5:00 pm- Interview workshop. Girls will be coached on proper interview technique and dress. Example questions of what will be asked will be given out. We will also be drawing contestant numbers this day, if you are not there then you will be assigned a number at random. June 5:00 pm-*required* Production number will be taught this day. You need to be there so that you can get the choreography to begin practicing. June 5:00 pm-evening wear modeling. Bring the shoes that you plan on wearing with your dress. We also will probably practice the production number a bit more. July 5:00 pm-*required* Production number will be polished up this day and finalized. If there is time we will also do any modeling practice that needs to be done. ALL PAPERWORK IS DUE THIS DAY August 5:00 pm-final practice before the week of the pageant. We will go over anything that the girls feel they need a little bit of practice with. All dresses and costumes will be checked either this day or the day of the run through to ensure that all dress wear is appropriate for the pageant. August 8-*REQUIRED* Complete dress rehearsal of the pageant. Bring everything that you intend on wearing or having for the pageant. August 9-Pageant Day!! Interviews start at 1:00 and will be held at the North Event Center near Orderville. You are expected to be there half an hour before your given interview time. You need to come completely ready. Pageant will begin at 7:00 at Kanab High School Auditorium. Contestants need to be there at 6:00 ready to go! Miss Kane County Committee Directors Jacey Heaton misskanecountypageant@gmail.com Jill Miner Photography Kelly Frost THINGS TO DO RIGHT AWAY: 1) Research topics and decide what your service platform will be. 2) Type up a one-page summary explaining your proposed community service project/platform, which will be submitted with your other paperwork and given to the judges along with your resume.

2 A good service summary does the following three things: Defines the issue to which you are sincerely committed, and explains why you selected it. Lists your significant accomplishments to date in regards to the issue. Outlines what you wish to accomplish during your year of service as an activist for the cause. 3) Complete your resume. The sheet may not be altered in any way and is limited to the front side only. 4) Contact at least two sponsors to support the Miss Kane County Pageant 5) Attend all workshops/meetings. 6) Secure your opening number outfit and accessories. PAPERWORK: DO NOT PROCRASTINATE START ON IT NOW!!! * us with any questions you may have 1) We suggest checking your paperwork checklist so that you can easily keep track of what (and when) materials are due. 2) After completion please the documents to Jacey on or before July 12 th at (or bring them to us at rehearsal that evening). 3) Make sure that ALL DOCUMENTS HAVE BEEN THOROUGHLY SPELL CHECKED. Have a fresh pair of eyes review your resume and platform before submission. We are always happy to proof read these for you as long as it is requested to do so BEFORE it s due. WARDROBE: Use good judgment in selecting your wardrobe for the pageant. Be advised that the pageant director(s) have the right to decide if a dress, costume or evening gown is too revealing, not in good taste, or inappropriate for competition. The final decision will be made at dress rehearsal. Seek the advice of others, ask pageant committee members for their opinion, but always remember YOU are the one who will wear it and if you don t feel comfortable in it then it is the wrong item for you. HAIRSTYLES & MAKEUP: We recommend very natural hairstyles for all phases of competition.especially interview. If you don t normally wear your hair up, or in a French Twist, then now is not the time to start. Granted, every girl s hair is different and we do not want to restrain anyone from looking their best, their way. However, we do recommend that you stay away from outdated styles such as Prom styles that may make you look too young. Hairdressers will not be available, or allowed backstage during the pageant, and it is best to have a hairstyle that you can manage yourself. Also, choose your make-up carefully. Stage make-up is very different from interview make-up. A helpful suggestion would be to take a picture of the complete make-up look and allow you to see what others see. This is an excellent guideline for all phases of competition. Visit the make-up counters at high-end department stores, and ask their assistance in determining what colors are right for you. HEADSHOTS: We have arranged for a professional photo shoot (for the 8x10 that will be displayed in the foyer and also for the wallet size photos to be provided to the judges during the competition). Time and location to be announced. THEME/PRODUCTION NUMBER: This year our pageant s theme and opening number is What Makes You Beautiful. Each contestant will need to secure an outfit for this number. The top needs to be a white shirt and Jean bottoms. Please use wise judgment when selecting your outfit. No holey jeans, tank tops, or flip flops for shoes. This will be the first time that the judges see you on stage so you want to look your best! We will be providing each girl with a different color scarf to wear and this will be given to her before the night of the pageant.

3 RESUME INFORMATION: Your resume is the most important document or piece of information you will utilize in successfully competing for the title of Miss Kane County. It should adequately reflect who you are and should be professional in both content and appearance. You are limited to specific information (as shown in attached example) may utilize only one side of the paper, and all font should be Times New Roman 12 point font. You may bold the subject title and your name. We recommend you discuss your resume with the directors and give them a chance to give you advice. PLATFORM ESSAY INFORMATION: Your platform essay is a one-page document that will be included with your resume. It should outline what you have done in regards to your platform (and what you plan on doing to further your platform) if you become the new Miss Kane County. There is excellent material regarding service platforms in this packet and you would be wise to review it before completing your service summary document. You do not need to devise something new and different, or unique and catchy. We do recommend, however, that your platform is an issue that is important to you, is something you truly believe in, and is a cause you can dedicate a year of service toward if you are selected as Miss Kane County. CONTRACT/FEE INFORMATION: *Contracts and fees ($15) are due July 12, Included in this packet, you will find an official pageant contract, which must be completed and signed. This document certifies that you are entering the Miss Kane County Scholarship Pageant as a contestant and legally allows you to compete. PLEASE READ IT ENTIRELY BEFORE YOU SIGN IT. After submission, contracts, service summaries, and resumes are reviewed by our committee to assure that each potential contestant meets the minimum qualifications. Please read the document carefully before signing and dating it. Should you be chosen as Miss Kane County or a member of royalty, this document serves as an outline for your year of service. A $15.00 fee is required to participate in the pageant. Please make checks payable to Miss Kane County Pageant all money will be processed through the County. IMPORTANT REMINDERS: TALENT CD s: and all paperwork is due July 12, 2014)*** We try to provide only the highest quality sound for the evening of our pageant, and for this reason you must submit your CD on this date. CDs are compiled onto a digital master for the ease of production and better sound quality. Cassette tapes and late CDs will NOT be accepted. Talent Rules: -2 minutes in length maximum -Please time each talent CD before the performance. It is very important that any talent that is performed live be timed beforehand to ensure the 2 minute limit. If you go over the 2 minutes the judge s chair will discretely inform the judges. -Props that are not absolutely necessary in displaying talent will not be admitted. No dance partners and no live accompaniment are allowed. -You may not change your talent after paperwork is turned in. -If you have chosen the same song as another contestant you will be asked to change. It will be on a first come first serve basis. MODELING: Please bring the heels you intend to wear during the competition (evening wear) to the modeling blocking rehearsal!!! Wear the heels for several days prior to rehearsal so that you are already comfortable in them!!! REQUIRED WORKSHOPS/MEETINGS: These are not mandoatory HOWEVER please be aware of when the required materials (paperwork, contracts, and fees) are due and make the necessary arrangements to get all items handed in (or ed) to Jacey on time THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS! APPEARANCES: Miss Kane County is often asked to participate as a member of county committees, to speak, perform, and volunteer at community events. These appearances will be mandatory. Missing them can affect her scholarship and title.

4 Paperwork Outlines TALENT RESERVATION FORM NAME: The Miss Kane County Pageant does not allow the same talent selection to be used by more than one contestant. The contestant who submits the form earliest is given the opportunity to use the selection; other contestants will have to prepare a different piece. NO EXCEPTIONS! 6 MISS KANE COUNTY JUDGING SYSTEM TALENT (40%) Your talent presentation is limited to a maximum of two (2) minutes in length. As you select wardrobe for your talent presentation, make sure it is a costume that enhances the piece you will be presenting and that it does not distract in any way from your facial expression, technical skill level, or the quality of the talent. Talent is indigenous and the disproportionate scoring in this phase of competition acknowledges the importance of great talent and personal discipline. The talent competition is not an end in itself, but an insight into a woman s preparatory and performance skills, and judges are instructed to place extra emphasis on entertainment value. PRIVATE INTERVIEW (30%) Your interview wardrobe should be something you feel comfortable in, and something you would wear to a professional job interview. This phase of competition is designed to give the judges an opportunity to learn as much as possible about the contestant, to evaluate the need and effectiveness of her chosen platform, and to assess her ability to express herself and defend her beliefs. In short, to see if the contestant possesses qualities that would help her succeed as Miss Kane County Queen/Princess. EVENING WEAR (20%) This phase of competition is an opportunity to showcase your individuality and uniqueness. Find something that is truly YOU!! In an on-line poll conducted by CMT prior to the 2006 Miss America Pageant, 47% of Americans said that Evening Wear is their favorite segment of competition. For this reason, we encourage each contestant to make an onstage statement of her personality and project her glamour and beauty across the footlights. The gown and the young woman should complement each other, be appropriately fitted, and represent modern fashion trends. ON-STAGE INTERVIEW (10%) On-Stage interview is designed to showcase the contestant s public speaking skill and her ability to handle pressure in front of an audience.
