AARP Membership: Membership (for 2018) AARP $2:00. Membership. Collection in clubhouse 12/4 thru 12/8 from 10-11:30 AM. Dragon Boat: Reminder for those who are unaware or for those who have simply forgotten, it is important to the Dragon Boat Club that you know that there is a very large, enclosed dumpster which is placed in the back storage area near where the Rummage Sale items are taken. This dumpster is for the collection of newspapers, magazines, telephone book, retail flyers and officetype-paper but absolutely NO cardboard or plastic. The proceeds from this dumpster is an ongoing fundraiser for the Dragon Boat Club who have rather large expenses each year for boat repair and upkeep, boat purchases, and race entry fees for which they train so hard to bring glory to Hawthorne. It is realized that it is so much easier to deposit your newspapers, etc. in your own personal recycle bin; however, it is hoped that more people will make the effort to take their newspapers and office-type-paper to the large dumpster to help the Dragon Boat Club. Toys for Tots: Boxes are in the Auditorium outside the Program office until December 14 th. Please donate new and unwrapped items for needy children in the Leesburg area. No stuffed animals please this is sponsored by the Bahia Shriners. Thank you so much for your help! A Message from the General Manager Please check and hand tighten all connections on your TV, computer, modem, splitters, etc. Loose connections cause noise resulting in problems with the internet and TV. A Message from the HRCA Board A reminder to all, there is no smoking on the clubhouse premises exception at the covered area of the bus stop at the west side of thee Dan Gorden Hall. AARP Weekly Health Tip Did you know frozen vegetables and fruits are just as nutritious as their fresh counterparts? Studies have found the freezing process typically keeps the nutrients of freshly picked produce intact while fresh produce may sit in transport and then in the grocery store losing nutrients along the way. A Safety Committee Tip Newspapers left in the driveway may be an indication that there is a problem. MESSAGE FROM COMMUNICATONS Fiber Optic cable is all in the ground. Coax cable is now all installed. Modifications to improve the cabling system are ongoing. Eight of 16 Nodes are in the system. During set up of these and future nodes internet and television service will continue to have intermittent interruptions as these new components in the system are set up, tuned and noise reduction steps are taken. Our new Hybrid Fiber optic coax system has much higher communication capabilities than the old cable system however with higher capability comes increased sensitivity (noise issues) to everyone s connections, especially to loose connections, existing bad cables, cable components like splitters and other equipment issues at individual home sites. To assist the system implementation members are asked to please check all your TV and internet connections in your house. Each connection should be finger tightened until the connectors Page 5 of 6
6 are seated (you can no longer turn them with your fingers). Members are reminded that if you have issues or questions with the HRCA TV or Internet system such as: a TV channel not working, or programing not following the channel three channel guide or your internet at extremely slow speeds at your home, please contact Home Services at about the issue you are experiencing so they can work to resolve it. Announcements from the management team about when and what areas of the community will be switched over to the new Fiber Optic trunk lines during the week are posted in the Dan Gorden Hall and on TV 98.
