The Concert Series presents Re-creation USA. This dynamic group of young people are presenting a dazzling new show with energetic choreography to showcase the best in American music. The dinner to honor those who were born in 1938 or married in This event was started by Colonial Penn and been carried on every year since. In order to be honored you must let the Program Office know the date of your Birthday or Anniversary. (If you have already done so we have you on the list) All others who have reached these milestones are welcome at the dinner. Those to be honored need to buy their ticket and when they attend they will be reimbursed the $ The club has a nice Dinner and Entertainment. Hope to see you there. We do Blood pressures, glucose, and hearing screening. Also we offer laminating for medical cards. Our volunteers are dedicated to serve Hawthorne residents. HRCA Documents Committee Meeting: 1/23, 1:00 PM in the Administration Conference Room. The Second Hand Rose Fashion Show and Tea: 1/30, 12:30 PM in the Hall. Sketching Your Life is a 2-part workshop designed to introduce personal journaling using water colors and pens. There is a supply list for the workshop. Sign up at the Information Center before 1/18 and it will be ed to you. Space is limited. Hawthorne Memorial Fund Annual Meeting: 1/25, 3:00 PM in the Lime Room. All residents are invited. Softball Dance: 2/1, 7:00-10:00 PM in the Hall. Tickets are $ 5.00 and on sale 1/28 thru 2/1 and at the door. Join us for a fun evening with our own DJ John Corcoran. BYOB 50/50, door prizes. Election forms may be picked up in the Program Office. The completed form must have nominees for Hawthorne Council. All forms are to be turned in to your Council Officer not the Program Office. Shuffleboard Northern No Two Pro s Tournament: 1/17, and 1/18, 9:00 AM. The Hawthorne Shuffleboard Club is hosting a Northern District No Two Pro s Doubles Tournament. Come watch some of the best men and women players throughout the Northern District compete during this two-day tournament, sponsored by Bob Robinson. Lunch will be available both days. Page 3 of 6

4 Hawthorne Players: Help!! Hawthorne Players is in desperate need of a musical accompanist for our March production which is a musical, by the way. Notice: There will be No Bingo on 1/30. Attention Activities: If you are interested in hosting the (2020) New Year s event, please see Debbie in the Program Office. Chorus: It is not too late to join the chorus for our spring concert in March. We rehearse on Mondays in the Fine Arts Room from 1-3:00 PM. New members are most welcome! Travel Club: Next trip to Biloxi will be 3/24 thru 3/27. Information and sign-up sheet available in the Hall. Call Cheryl Jacobs for more info Luminary: I want to thank everyone who worked on the luminary project. Also, a thank you to those who bought the luminary kits this year. We sold 881 kits this year compared to 841 kits last year. I hope you were able to get out to see them on Christmas Eve. It was a beautiful sight. Thirty-two residents worked on this project. They did a great job. After taking out expenses for white bags, candles, rubber bands and plastic bags, we made $2, for our Hawthorne AARP Chapter. All the money we made goes to Hawthorn needs and charities here in Leesburg. Respectfully submitted, Elise Mrowca Hawthorne Pictorial: Sign up to have your picture taken. Sign up times is 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM in the Hospitality Room. These pictures will be taken in February. Notice: Hawthorne Pictorial: Life Touch professional photography will be in Hawthorne February 4 th thru 16 th 2019 to take pictures. Life Touch does school portraits, church pictorials, and community pictorials. Having your portrait taken you will receive a free 8x10 and a pictorial book. Hawthorne pictorial is a great asset to all homes. It connects us with our community. You may purchase additional portraits on your own. Hopefully the book will be in by April Ohio Club: Desperate need of Officers for Ohio Club. Please notify Donna Hale for questions or interest. A New and Unique Day Get ready for a fun time on January 30 th from 12:30-3:30 PM in the Hall. Florida Friendly Landscaping Club is bringing you the second hand Rose tea and fashion show for only $9.00. This will be a unique, fun filled afternoon and our models will be wearing only thrift shop clothing. Perhaps you would like your tea leaves read, only 30 reading will be available for a nominal charge. Bring your favorite tea cup if you like and tea and related food items will be served by our handsome waiters. Prepare to be entertained with shopping at the Florida Floozies Finery Thrift Shop. (Most items less than $2.00) take a chance on several theme baskets or items of interest, and don t forget the 50/50. You will entertained with fashions, food, shopping, and a surprise or two. If you have any thrift shop clothing, make sure to wear them (with the price you paid attached) or any tea attire and or hats. Get ready for giggles, laughs, and fun. Phone-Camera Tips If you have a camera on your phone and enjoy using it, you won t want to miss this upcoming Photo Club program. A short video on tips for using your phone camera will be shown on Tuesday, January 15, at 3:00 PM in the Lime Room. This presentation will guide you to better photos. All photo club meetings include an informal round-table chat, even though the actual tables are rectangular. Photography questions, experiences and suggestions for future programs are exchanged. 5 Grandma s Closet: Do not drop off any medical supplies at either of the two sheds located behind the Pickleball courts. Whether donated or returned, these items must be placed in the medical supply room at the Clubhouse. Thank you for your cooperation. Night of Entertainment The Hawthorne Players are pulling out all stops to present a trilogy of three plays filled with tarradiddle and hoopla. Your favorite performers really strut their stuff. Accused of Comedy is unthinkable! You ll go to jail for telling or tittering at jokes. The Candle on the Table has all jeepers breaking loose when new arrivals at an assisted-living facility are seated together. At Halftime, a frustrated basketball coach and his team of rambunctious women are playing a game against a team of nuns. Directors: Kathy Bowman, Cindy Semenik, Jim Therkildsen. January 28-29, 2019, Monday & Tuesday at 7:00 PM. Tickets will be sold from January 14 th thru 25 th, and sold at the door(if seats are available) Tickets are $ Golf Cart Cruise We had 68 decorated golf carts the cruised many streets of the community on Thursday December 21. Members were treated to colorful display and the golf carters were able to see our decorated community and were greeted by many members outside cheering Merry Christmas! Some of them had candy thrown at them. We tried to cruise all the main streets and those that are highly decorated. If we missed your street get your neighbors to decorate and be ready to greet us and celebrate the Christmas season. In 2019 if you are decorated, we will cruise by! AARP Weekly Health Tip Seafood provides a large amount of protein without the fat. People who have a large amount of fish oil or omega 3 in their blood level live an average of 2.2 years longer than those with low levels. MANAGERS MESSAGE Irrigating your lawn only once a week this time of year is mandated by St. Johns Water Authority. This is the perfect time to save water as the lawns and landscaping need less water with cooler temperatures. Homes with even number addresses water only on Sunday and odd number homes water Saturday. Page 5 of 6

6 MESSAGE FROM THE HRCA BOARD Are the HRCA Board and the Club Hawthorne Council the same organization? The answer is no. The HRCA Board is responsible for the administration of the affairs of the Hawthorne Corporation including maintenance of the common areas, determining the expenses required for the operation of the Corporation, and adopting rules and regulations covering the operation of the community. Board meetings are held the second and third Thursday of the month. For more information on the Board, visit the Resident Area of the Hawthorne website at Click on the HRCA Board tab. Club Hawthorne Council is the governing body of Club Hawthorne, under which all activities are organized. Club Hawthorne is responsible for providing the necessary funds for the functioning of activities and to fairly represent the interests of all activities.
