1 Rib Lake High School November 6, 2014 VETERAN S DAY Rib Lake High School will be hosting a Veteran s Recognition Day at RLHS on Tuesday, November 11, at 10:45 a.m. The bands and choirs will be performing as we recognize our veterans. The event is open to the public and we encourage you to help us support our veterans. THE BOTTOM OF THE LAKE The Rib Lake High School Drama Club will present a performance of The Bottom of the Lake on Friday, November 7th, at 7:00 p.m. The presentation is a mix of ghost stories from the absurd, frightening, and lovable; told by friends that venture into the woods to tell their tales. The presentation is followed with a dessert social following the performance. The cost of admission is $6 for adults and $4 for students and includes dessert. The play is under the direction of Megan Christensen and Jodi Radtke. Grades On-Line Grades are available on-line at If you have any questions please call the high school office at THANKSGIVING VACATION Thanksgiving Vacation will begin on Wednesday, November 26th and students will return to school on Monday, December 1st. PRE-PLANNED HUNTING Hunting season is a great time for families to spend time together. Students missing time for the upcoming hunting season must fill out a pre-planned family trip form with parent permission before the dates being missed. All work is expected to be done in advance of the student s absence. Your student should pick up a Family Trip Form in the office if they plan on hunting on November 24th and 25th.

Along with boxes of oranges, apples, pears and grapefruit there are gift boxes of fruit, meat, cheese, or snacks available. The proceeds of this fundraiser go to the Choir Fund, and are used to purchase Show Choir equipment, supplement the Choir budget, as well as a Choir field trip yet to be planned. If you would like to order fruit, contact any Choir member, or call the high school office at All orders must be in by November 28th. Fruit will be delivered on December 16th. (This is also the night of the High School Holiday Concert.) Senior Policy for Graduation Ceremony Participation Just a reminder to Senior parents that Rib Lake High School has criteria for senior students to participate in the graduation ceremony. The following information was discussed with seniors in early September. Students must have attended school at least 93% of the school days/class periods in both first and second semester of their Senior year in order to participate in the graduation ceremony. This includes all pre-planned and parent excused absences. The Principal may waive this requirement for good and sufficient reason, such as an extended illness, family emergency, extended vacation, etc. Students must have paid all fines, fees, dues, and other financial obligations owed to the school district and made up any disciplinary time in order to participate in the graduation ceremony. Student participation in the graduation ceremony is a privilege. Any multiple-day school suspension or school related legal referral during the senior year may result in revocation of the graduation ceremony privilege.

3 Rib Lake High School Page 3 FALL SPORTS RECOGNIZED Another exciting Hawks football season has concluded and the anticipation for next season is beginning to build. Even though the 2014 record did not end up on the winning side, the young and outmanned team continued to grow both in numbers and experience. With most players playing two ways, their skills and techniques were much improved. The offense became a force and improved its production over the previous season. The defense, although susceptible to the big play, showed that they can stop anyone when all 11 players do their job correctly. All time top 15 numbers were put up by the defense in 1st downs and passing yards allowed and by senior Joe Frombach in punting and punt returns. We congratulate the Marawood Honorable Mention All Conference players: Cody Van Luven, Dalton Rohde, Drew Rohde, and Hunter Swan. Hawks players and those wishing to play for the Hawks next season should begin now by improving your strength and speed in the fitness center 3 times a week. See Coach Weiss or Coach Krommenacker to get started today! The 2014 Prentice/Rib Lake Hawks Cross Country season started with captain s practice once a week in mid-july. Most of the team made it to the workouts. Josh and Erin usually rode their bikes the five miles to town. This was the first year for the girls to run 5,000 meters (3.1miles). Prior to this they had run 4,000 meters. The first test was at Timm s Hill, the most difficult course they would encounter all season. The team finished 2nd and went on the next week to finish 2nd at Stratford. The middle of the season was made difficult with injury and illness. The end of the season showed improvement with a good effort at Conference. The team placed 5th of 19 schools at Sectionals. Katie Strobach received the most improved runner award for the season. The boys season was one of steady improvement and tight pack running. The gap the amount of time between the 1st and 5th runner was around :40 to :50 seconds. We had four different guys 1st on the team throughout the season. They saved the best for last with a 3rd place at Conference. Nick Eisner received Honorable Mention. The Hawks were 4th place in Sectionals, Nick Eisner was 21st in 18:37. Nick Eisner was awarded most improved and Donald Dums received the Spirit Award. As the team has no Seniors, next year looks very promising. Come on out next year and help us go to State with both teams!

4 POPS Club News The students have been working hard to raise money for positive recognition awards. The club earned $ in October by running a concession stand and garage sale. The next POPS reward drawing is in early November. Students are entered into a drawing for cash and prizes every time they do something that shows consistently high achievement, effort, or character. A big thank you to October community sponsor Mann Made Pizza and Ice Cream for their generous donation of prizes. POPS is always looking for community prize sponsors. If you have a donation idea, please call Michelle Rhodes at RLHS. Marawood Honors Band and Choir Chequamegon High School hosted the Marawood Band and Choir honor students on Tuesday, November 4th. These students received a chance to work with a quality clinician throughout the day and then perform for the public that night. Congratulations to the following students for being selected to the prestigious event: Branden Jerome, Connor Walters, Krista Betz, Makayla Haizel, Carter Hopkins, Kyle Matyka, Keith Perkins, and Ciara Scheithauer. Page 4 Congratulations to 2014 National Honor Society Inductees Nine new inductees were placed in the Rib Lake Chapter of the National Honor Society on the evening of November 3, Congratulations goes out to new inductees: Emily Colson, Zoe Reissner, Regan Dobbs, Kyle Matyka, Tiffany Peterson, Brooke Buehler, Moriah Hopkins, Nick Eisner, and Mariah Thums. These students will join current members: Joe Frombach, Jared Hovde, Rachel Hoyt, Branden Jerome, Ciara Scheithauer, Chlesea Shook, and Samantha Staab. The National Honor Society is advised by Michelle Rhodes and Kim Dwyer. RLSD Community Service Day On Monday, October 28, 2014 the students from the Middle School and High School spent the afternoon doing community service work for area residents. People around the community who need to have yard cleanup/raking done for winter, are invited to submit a request for this service each year. This year 17 yards were done. The students worked hard and enjoyed this project.

The value of the scholarship is up to $2,250 per year, to be applied towards tuition. Students wishing to be considered for the TES need to meet eligibility criteria set by the Wisconsin Higher Educational Aids Board (HEAB) and will need to be nominated by their school. Schools will need to select a student or students to nominate in February More information can be found on HEAB s web site, at PICTURE RETAKES Picture retakes will be taken on Thursday, November 13th. BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH Congratulations to the Rib Lake High School students who raised $ during Breast Cancer Awareness Week activities.
