9 Factual Summary of 3B Bayfield School District has been awarded a Building Excellent Schools Today (BEST)grant from the Colorado Department of Education to address health and safety deficiencies, overcrowding and site issues concentrated at Bayfield Elementary Primary School (BEPS). The BESTgrant of $8.568 million is contingent upon the passage of local bond issue 3B in November The BEST Board recognized BEPS as the highest priority school replacement project this year in the State of Colorado. The District has determined the best long-term approach to meet its current facilities' needs, while also preparing for inevitable growth, is to do the following: Build a 3-5 school adjacent to the existing Bayfield Middle School (BMS), including a gymnasium equipped for middle school and community use Renovate and expand the existing BESfor grades K-2, including traffic circulation improvements and safety enhancements Improvements to traffic circulation, site safety and security at BMS. The District's bond issue 3B, in conjunction with the contingent $8.568 million BESTgrant from the State of Colorado, will address the following issues: Provide safe and secure buildings Alleviate overcrowding in our elementary grades Traffic and safety improvements at Bayfield Elementary School (BES) and BMS Prepare for our growing student population at historically low interest rates. The contingent BESTgrant allows the District to address all of these deficiencies for approximately $6 per month per $100,000 of home value. While we recognize there is a tax impact associated with bond issue 3B, we also recognize taking advantage of this contingent state grant will decrease the burden on taxpayers while addressing the significant students. needs of our The new 3-5 school is scheduled to be open for the start of school in August The K-2 school is more challenging since much of the work will need to occur while school is in session. The District is exploring construction opportunities for the K-2 school to be open for the fall semester of For more information, please visit the following link on the District's website: ID=443800&type=d&pREC ID=957275
