3 WHAT IS Fierce FUNK? Fierce FUNK is a new, exciting dance-fitness program that at its core, is an old school style of a street-ready FUNK, with a contemporary hip-hop feel. It is not just a style of music or movement trend. Fierce FUNK is inspiring, empowering, passionate, and encourages a philosophy of love toward others and ourselves. And it s really fun too! The Vision To unite the world, one dance step at a time, by encouraging an atmosphere of non-judgement, positive motivation, health and happiness through movement. The Mission To create an experience by empowering people of all ages and walks of life to function within their personal power without fear, and to maximize their greatest potential.

4 Why Fierce FUNK? The Dance Fitness segment of the industry has trended in the top 10 fitness trends of the year, for the last twelve years. The expectation for the next few years is that the fitness industry will benefit from increases in per capita disposable income and government initiatives to fight obesity and improve over all health nationwide. Fierce FUNk is on the cusp of this continually emerging market. It is a fresh take stylistically in the market. As the point of entry for participation is lower than many of the competing brands, the potential for success is even greater. Fierce FUNk provides physical, mental and emotional benefits. 6 About the Creator Pepper Von is a national and international fitness educator, motivational speaker and co-owner of Step 1 Dance & Fitness in Sacramento, California. He is one of the top presenters for the International Sports Medicine Association. Pepper is founder of the World Aerobic Kickboxing Association International as well as a featured presenter for the California Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. Formerly a Zumba Educational Specialist, Pepper was recognized by Beto Perez as his mentor and inspiration for starting Zumba Fitness. Pepper is a mentor to the world renowned Jabbawockeez, Format Expert for Beachbody, teacher and featured choreographer at Sacramento State University, as well as a Member of the Executive Board for Ben Vereen s Wellness Through the Arts. As part of his professional fitness career, he has starred in more than ten fitness videos. Pepper s stage and screen credits include: featured cohost on the award winning ESPN Fitness Pros; appearances on Extra, MTV, NBC Emmy Awards, Fox s Say No to Drugs/Kids Reaching Out, Inner City Games with Arnold Schwarzeneggger, Tops in Blue (US Airforce World Tour) and Arabian in the Sacramento Ballet s Nutcracker, Pepper also appeared in the Cake music video No Phone. Pepper has been recognized for this leadership, mentorship and community volunteerism including the Presidential Sports Award, Attorney General Award of Merit, Health and Fitness Institute Leadership Award of Excellence, American Athletic Association Man of the Year, American Aerobic Association International Instructor of the Year, International Dance and Fitness Association Make Fitness Happen Award, and the Governor s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports Human Rights Award. In addition, Pepper received two Elly Awards for Best Supporting Actor in a Muscial for Smokey Joe s Café and Best Choreography of a Musical for Let s Go. He is a United States National Aerobic Champion and member of the International Kickboxing Team with two black belts.

8 THE TEACHING METHOD Fierce FUNk is taught in an add-on method or link style; a simple process where the instructor introduces 4 to 8 counts of easy-to-follow choreography, then adds on the next 4 to 8 count block until all choreography has been taught. The finished product will represent a 32 count segment of choreography that the instructor and participants will dance from start to finish. THE CERTIFICATION Fierce FUNk the certification prepares participants to lead classes by educating them on a variety of essential topics. That list includes but is not limited to: the history of funk, skills necessary for creating and navigating funk movement, supporting science that makes this program safe and effective, learning how to overcome funk phobias, highlighting teaching essentials, verbal and visual cueing, choreography construction, body mechanics and modifications, as well as musicality, phrasing, and rhythm.
