1 The Aubie Tribune The Official Auburn Tigers Kids Club Newsletter december 2012 Getting to Know... Carly Scheper - Women s Swimming and Diving Freshman Diving Fort Mitchell, Ky. & Stephen Saenz - Track and Field Redshirt Junior Throws Rio Grande City, TX What s the most interesting thing you ve ever done? When I was 12 I went to China for a dive meet, and I ll never forge it. It was the coolest thing I ve ever done. Are you an early bird or a night owl? Before I came to Auburn I would say night owl, but now I ll have to say early bird because of morning practice. What is one thing you miss about being a kid? I miss just having my family and parents there and not having to worry about grown up responsibilities. How would you describe your dream vacation? I ve always wanted to go to Hawaii with my friends or family. What is your dream job? Strength and conditioning coach at a university. What are the top things on your bucket list? Go to Tomorrowland festival. I want to eat crazy foods from other contries. The third one is to see the Seven Wonders of the World. What is your greatest fear? My greatest fear is spiders. When and where are you the happiest? I m happiest when I m at the track with my teammates. Who do you most admire and why? My parents. They support me 100 percent. Tiger Scoreboard Equestrian Ranked #2 Men s Swimming & Diving Women s Swimming & Diving Ranked #16 Ranked #9 *All results as of November 29, 2012 For the most up to date results visit Results in parenthesis are from Southeastern Conference play.
2 Keeping Fit with Aubie Frosty the Bagel When It s Cold Outside Ingredients: Mini bagel Cream cheese 1 baby carrot Sliced black olives Sliced red pepper Celery Broccoli Brrr! It s a cold day and you re all bundled up, looking for some fun. Warm up fast and get those muscles moving by shoveling the snow off the driveway or the sidewalk. You might even offer to shovel the driveways or sidewalks for people in your neighborhood. Make some giant snow people or other snow creatures. Build an igloo or a fort, and store all your snowballs there. If you live near an ice-skating rink or pond, strap on some skates and glide across the ice. If skiing is more your thing, put on those skis and go because both downhill and crosscountry skiing are great ways to exercise. Or see the snow rushing past you from a sled, snowboard, or toboggan. It helps to have a grown-up around to keep everyone safe. Be sure to steer clear of obstacles like trees and to stay off roads and streets. Directions: Spread half a mini bagel with cream cheese, then add a baby carrot nose, sliced black olive eyes, and a sliced red pepper mouth. or the earmuffs, simply curve a thinly sliced piece of celery along the top of the bagel as shown and hold it in place with a broccoli floret at each end. Adapted November 30, 2012 from com/recipes/frosty-bagel More things to do when it s cold: Play tag in the snow. Take a nature hike and look for animal footprints. Pull a little kid around on a sled. Make snow angels. 4 The A-Bottle-Able Snowmen Auburn Craft Corner Ask each child to write what she s thankful for on a paper feather, then stick it into this cute turkey centerpiece. Materials: Squat plastic jar or bottle Scissors and craft knife (an adult s job) Battery-operated tea light Water White glue Brush White, black, and orange tissue paper Small black beads, sequins, or buttons Ribbon Instructions: To make a snowman, wash and dry a squat plastic jar or bottle (along with the pomegranate juice bottle, we used nut and spice jars, a squeezable jelly bottle, and an 8-ounce apple juice bottle). With scissors or a craft knife, cut away the container s bottom to accommodate a battery-operated tea light (an adult s job). Mix water and white glue to a creamy consistency, then brush it over the jar. Attach white tissue paper scraps and brush with another layer of the diluted glue. In the same way, cover the lid with black tissue paper scraps. Let the bottle and lid dry. For the eyes and mouth, glue on small black beads, sequins, or buttons. For the nose, brush glue over a cone of orange tissue paper, let it dry, then adhere it. Tie on a ribbon scarf and place your man over the tea light Adapted November 30, 2012 from Auburn Spirit 101 WAR EAGLE Whenever Auburn people gather, the battle cry Warrrrrrr Eagle! is almost certain to be heard. Although little is actually known about how the battle cry originated, it has been a part of Auburn s spirit for more than 100 years. Since the first War Eagle, there have been six other birds throughout Auburn s history which have served as the school s symbol and kept alive the legendary battle cry. To learn more about this Auburn tradition, go to AuburnTigers.com. Celebrate your birthday with Auburn Athletics! Visit AuburnTigers.com/birthdays for more information, or to book your party today!
