1 Serving with Faith and Love 28 September 2018 Kia Ora, Kia Orana, Talofa, Malo e lelei, Namaste, Bula, Malo ni, Makadini, Annyoung, Witamy, Welcome, Over the holiday s let us remember all the people around us and know that they are all made in the image of God and we should treat them just as we should treat our Lord. Our school motto is Serving with Love and Faith Let us do that every day, with every person that we meet and every breath we take. God bless you all over these holidays and may he keep you all safe and happy. ASSEMBLY IN MAORI LANGUAGE WEEK Room 5 did an amazing job and the whole assembly was in Maori. We have amazing talent at this school and this shines through when the children have to stand up in front of others with so much confidence that they seem to be so natural at public speaking. Well done to Room 5.

3 At the beginning of Term 4 there will be four students representing our school at the Rehu Tai Oral Language Festival competition at Pt Chevalier Primary School. They are: RAP Sebastian Smith with Bullies Beware!, Spoken Word Poetry Kenani Hoglund with My Heart Warming Mother, 10² Flash Talk Arianna Steffany with Change in Fashion and Prepared Speech Boston Efaraimo with Show a Positive Attitude. We wish then every success. SCHOOL FUNDRAISING PO FIAFIA What an amazing night. I am so proud of the students, the parents, the staff and the community. The vibe was so positive and welcoming. The students were fabulous and everyone was so supportive. Thank you for making this such a great night. Room 5 Reflections What a stupendous performance by all the students on Fiafia night!! It was a moment of thrill when I began dancing the Michael Jackson song. I was confident because I practiced a lot. My family congratulated me for my floss actions and I was delighted to be a part of this cultural experience. By Hazza Yr.5 As I was thinking about Fiafia night, the only thought that comes to my mind was how all the cultural dances and music made the evening so merry and cheerful. I was in the Cook Island dance and I felt ecstatic but also nervous to perform in front of an audience. The best part was when everyone cheered and applauded our performances. By Jazza Yr.5 Being part of the Cook Island dance group made me feel proud of being in a group that is my culture. The Fiafia night was amazing because I got the opportunity to see dances from different cultures. My whanau helped my group to get ready for Fiafia night. I really appreciate their support. 4 Room 4 Recounts On Wednesday, I went home for a shower and then came back and I got changed for Pofiafia night. The boys had to get ready in Pukeko room (Room 6). The girls had to get ready in Room 5. When everyone got ready I got excited to dance on the stage in front of my parents. The first dance we danced to was Tamaiti St Joseph and then we had to do a Haka. And all of us from the Samoan and mixed up cultures and Tongan and Cook Island had to dance our dances. When my cousin slapped the money on my tummy, it hurt. By Maselino Room 4 Yesterday I came to school and in Kereru room we were practicing for Pofiafia night. It was fun, exciting, and loud. I could not hear the music. It was fun when I picked out the raffle ticket. I liked the staff dance when they were waving around the candles. I was dancing mixed up cultures and when I got home I went on my word search. By Oscar Room 4. Yesterday night in Piwakawka room (room one) we got dressed and got our hair done in a bun. Our costume was red and yellow. After we got dressed we, straight away, headed to the hall. We headed on the stage and started singing and dancing to our school song,tamaiti St Joseph. Then we started singing and dancing to the Haka. When all of the groups got off the stage except for us, we got in our positions and danced to the Mate Ma a Tonga song, we swayed our hips and hands, we moved our feet side to side. Then we did our second dance. We were followed by Whero, Kakariki, and lastly Kowhai. After that it was time for the raffle. The person who won was a woman named Steffany. Now it was the teachers Filipino dance which was followed by the parent group. Then we sang our African song. When we were finished the people who were counting the money announced that the school had collected from the parents was more than $2000 cash. We were so lucky. Then we all headed back to our classes so we could get back into our uniforms and then we all left. By Marie Room 4 Yesterday I came to school and then our Hihi group started to get ready for the Pofiafia. Then we started with the school song. The group ware in Piwakawaka, Tui, Kereru and the Hihi room getting ready. After all the groups danced it was teachers turn to have their dance it was amazing. When I got up on stage, I was smiling and making

5 my family and parents proud of me. When the Pofiafia night was finished, I took a photo and our group Samoan group were all proud of ourselves. I felt confident, happy, and fantastic on stage. I was joyful and my aunty and uncle were cheering when I was dancing. There was supper and chocolate cake and I want to have the Pofiafia night to happen again. It was very exciting. By Julie-May, Room 1 I went to Fiafia and I got a lolly-lei. By Zhar day Room 1 On Wednesday we were dancing on the stage. My Mum and my baby was happy. My Mum videoed the picture of my dance for my Dad. By Annareti Room 1 I like the teachers dance and the teachers were very, very, very pretty on Fiafia night. The teachers were very good. So let me introduce yous to ME DAY Since our days includes and involves our spouses and children. Me Day is all about you. This day you do it alone, by yourself. Enjoy your own company. Do you Find your inner self. Be at Peace with yourself. There shouldnt be any thinking about, the kids & your spouse s needs and wants. Its all about your needs and wants too. Theres only one rule!! You have to get out of the house Watch a movie. Read a chapter of a book at the Library. Meditate and so forth.
