GWRRA Arizona Chapter A Region F California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico and Hawaii Facebook page, GWRRA Tucson Chapter A Director s Corner Chapter Director, Mike Hagen Can you believe how fast this year is going? It seems like it was just a few weeks ago we were enjoying each other s company at our Christmas party and it already time to mark your calendar for our 2017 Christmas party on December 9. We will start taking your reservations next month at our gathering by that time I hope to have some ideas about the cost, since everyone seemed to enjoy last year s menu I asked the caterer to use the same meals. There were 3 choices beef, chicken and vegetarian. It will be held at the Shriners hall on 450 S Tucson Blvd,Tucson, AZ (520) I have asked them to provide us a table again this year to place gifts for the children they take care of. Last year we filled the table, this year let s try to fill it to overflowing. They were really appreciative last year and thanked us more than once for our generosity. I would like to remind everyone about our district rally at Lake Havasu October 27, 28 and this link will allow you to get information, registration online or paper registration and hotel reservation (the discount price ends September 24). The sunrises across the lake are worth the price of admission. I will be asking for volunteers to help out at the registration desk. I would like to encourage everyone to attend our September gathering and to wear your colors and or vest if you have them but please plan to attend so that we can get a group photo for Wing World magazine to celebrate our 40 th anniversary in January. Who knows maybe we could even make the cover. I know that they have started processing the preregistration signups even though we have been to that the region rally in Utah was canceled. July s Birthday s and Anniversaries at Brushfire July s Birthdays and Anniversaries was celebrated at. You can t beat good BBQ with an Ice Cream chaser. At least for me anyway! Having too much fun were: Mel and Marsha Tillett, Dennis and Debbie Ammons, Ken Porter and Maddie Montante, Mike Hagen and company, DW Gary, Randy Wasser, and Judy Schneider. If you missed out on any of our rides or social gatherings, then we are missing you too. Hope to see ya on our next ride or social happening. Randy I wanted to let everyone know that there is at least 11 of us that are planning to go rally or no rally and have a good time anyway. So if anyone else is interested let me know and we can figure out a ride up there. Mike.

The group included: Debbie & Dennis Ammons, Jeannie & Gene McGaughey, Steve & Char Clor and Mel & Marsha Tillett. No none of us rode our bikes! On this scheduled event, we drove to The Kettle located just West of I-10 at 22 nd Street. It has a 4 Star rating when googled on the web.we wanted to scope out the environment, food and service. We all had coupons for $8 off a second entrée. The Services were great. There was plenty of food to choose from, soups, salad options, fruits, 5 hot entrées, rice veggies and of course mashed potatoes & gravy. Puddings and soft serve vanilla ice cream for desert. That is just the Buffet! They have a great selection on the menu also. Ask Jeannie about the Kettle Burger. The menu included a huge variety. This place also offers a great selection and buffet for Breakfast and Lunch as well. (Mel & I have eaten breakfast here in the past and it is a very good spread as well) The Owner and wait staff were eager to please, keeping glasses filled with beverages and removing plates that were emptied. The Kettle also has a private room that can be used for events. They offer buffet service and can work with groups (up to 100) on individual menu options. Google the site and check out the reviews and the Menu. We had a great time, good conversations and all got out just before the rain started! But had enough time to see a rainbow chased by rain clouds. We hope to see you on the next one!! M&M (The Tillett s)

From the RIDER ED Desk Of Randy Wasser, AZ-A C.E. In our June newsletter, the Chapter Educator s article asked a lot of WHY questions about drivers. While that article dealt more with the psychology of traffic, I want to take another look at: Passing Lane Laws Left-lane cruisers, besides being dangerously oblivious to the other drivers around them, and are annoying as heck. People who hog the left lane lead to road rage and frustration, tailgating, weaving around on the right, and accidents. Right or wrong, speeding or not, people are traveling faster than slow pokes get mad. Several states have gone past the KEEP RIGHT EXCEPT TO PASS rule have enacted new laws and imposed higher fines to left-lane campers. Maybe you re a bit of a lead-foot. Maybe you don t like driving behind trucks. Or maybe you just really like the view from the left lane. Well, an increasing number of states have a message for you: Get over. Or pay up. States which require slower traffic to move right: Alabama Arizona California Colorado Connecticut Delaware Hawaii Idaho Indiana Iowa Minnesota Mississippi Missouri Montana Nebraska New Hampshire New Mexico New York North Dakota Oklahoma Oregon Rhode Island South Carolina South Dakota Tennessee Texas Vermont West Virginia Wisconsin Wyoming States which only allow passing in the left lane: Arkansas Illinois Kentucky Louisiana Maine Massachusetts New Jersey States which require slower traffic to move right only if they are blocking traffic: Florida Georgia Nevada Utah Virginia States which require drivers moving slower than the speed limit to move right: Alaska Maryland North Carolina Ohio Puerto Rico States with other rules: Michigan allows only passing on the left lane unless there is heavy traffic or more than three lanes on the freeway

Pennsylvania and Washington allow use of the left lane to pass, allow traffic to merge, or "when traveling at a speed greater than the traffic flow." 10 Beating the August HEAT So far in August, the best ways to beat the heat are to ride at night or enjoy someone else s air-conditioned spaces. It s gets even better when there is food! August 5th was dinner at Argenziano s to be followed by a moonlight ride. Not as big of a group as the last time we were here. Chilling out were Kerry and Garry, Mike and Sue, Ron and Victoria, and Randy and Judy. Since Ron and Victoria, and Randy and Judy were the only ones on their bikes, the moonlight ride was all the way to the nearest. Two nights later we hit Montgomery s in Vail and we can report that their air condoning works really well. Just look how many of our friends are attracted to it! Sue and Mike, Randy and Judy, Ron and Victoria, Debbie and Dennis, Dan and Donna, Mel and Marsha, Ken and Madeline, Steve and Michele, and DW. Again, Ron and Victoria, and Randy and Judy were the only ones on their bikes, but we weren t the only ones to make the treacherous hike across the parking lot to. Randy

2013 Chapter A Photo Chapter A will soon be celebrating 40 Years of Friendship, Fun, Safety and Knowledge There will be a group photo taken at the September Chapter meeting! If you don t have a chapter shirt, chapter members who have an extra shirt or vest can loan them to wear for the group photo. The Chapter Store has some extra black vests to wear for the photo. If you choose not to wear chapter colors - you ll be standing in the back! Chapter Shirts If you need to order a chapter shirt, now is the time! Orders are being taken for men s or women s shirt sizes, short/long sleeved, burgundy color. The casual button-down shirts are 65% polyester/35% cotton poplin. 12 August Birthday s & Anniversaries The August Birthday & Anniversary Celebration was scheduled for August 16 th for Ice Cream Treats at the DQ found in the Twin Peaks Outlet Mall. We had 11 chapter members attend. They were as follows: Kerry & Garry Woo (and their puppy), Dean & Jeannine Jernigan, DW Gary, Lumpy Lumpkin, Connie Awad, Susan & Mike Hagen, and Mel & Marsha Tillett. We determined that we had in the group, 6 celebrating birthdays in August and Mike & Susan are celebrating an anniversary. Did any of you pick up on the August list and notice that Susan and Mike have birthday s one day apart. And to keep their celebration going, they got married on the day in between birthdays. WOW, a 3 day celebration in the Hagen House!!! Not one of us showed up at the DQ with shopping bags in hand. Marsha did try, making a side stop at the Coach Store, but no scores!!!. Blizzards, parfaits, fruit drinks, banana splits, chocolate & strawberry sundaes where ordered and enjoyed as we all sat in the air conditioned site and enjoyed each other s company. After about an hour, we all headed home. Pictures were taken by Connie Awad. We hope to see you on the next one!! M&M (The Tillett s) Bike for sale.
