The weather looks like it will impact some planned events and just plain good old weekend fun flying this month. On a better note I would like to thank all who gave their time on the Sunday that Sara McMahon came out to the field to shoot video of our club members fun flying. I have attached the lead in for her site. Meet the members of the Hemet Model Masters RC flying club as they share the fun of flying scale aircraft. Sara learns about the sport, the planes, the craftsmanship and even takes the controls for her first flight. You'll meet club president Richard Lawrence and see his aerobatic flying skills in action with a scale model Yakovlev-55. Sara even throws in a personalized tour of the workshop and meets the very patient Molly the pug. As an extra bonus, Sara shares her love of science in the Sara Cam segment. Enjoy the show. 2 HEMET MODEL MASTERS BOARD MEETING Minutes for March 5, 2018 Meeting called to order by Vice-President Floyd Whitehorn at 7:02 pm. Board members present; Mario Muniz, Stewart Robinson, Ralph Torres, Vincent Michael and Steve Staudenmeir, Dwayne Higgenbothem, Richard Lawrence and Lloyd Barber. Old business; Need to spray weed killer with the tractor when the weather clears a bit. The small tractor needs some work and Richard Lawrence will set aside some time to get it running again. The conex needs attention, it has to be cleaned out and organized once more. Richard Lawrence has been in contact with the McMahon s and the videos that were taken at the main field should be ready in a week or two. Mario Muniz advised the board that he has informed Mr Phil Anady the Dean of the San Jacinto Charter Academy that we have extended honorary membership with the Hemet Model Masters to him and he has expressed his gratitude. The board members have decided that some of the members of the club step up and sponser some of the students at the academy who are involved with the aviation program. Stewart Robinson, Ralph Torres, Dwayne Higgenbothem, Steve Staudenmeir, Mario Muniz, Vincent Michael and Richard Lawrence will each sponsor one student from the academy. We will be asking other members to help out and sponsor some more of the students. 3 HEMET MODEL MASTERS GENERAL MEETING Minutes for February 17, 2018 Meeting called to order by President Richard Lawrence 9:12 am. Treasurer Stewart Robinson gave the Treasurer s Report. Motion to accept by Vincent Michael and seconded by Robert MacGregor, voted and approved by all members present. President Richard Lawrence called for a motion to approve last months minutes as published in the newsletter. Motion to accept by Don Turner and seconded by Steve Staudenmeir, voted and approved by all members present. Old business; We would like to thank Jack Acosta and his son-in-law Myron for replacing the carpet on some of the start-up stands. At the last board meeting it was decided to move some of the club funds from checking to savings. There is no real benefit interest wise from the bank but we would like to designate the savings account as monies for infrastructure improvements to the club flying fields. We will be having guests at the main field on Sunday Feb 18, 2018 filming around the facility and interviewing the members for a short documentary about the Hemet Model Masters. We talked about a project that Mario Muniz has been working on with a local school. The Hemet Model Masters will be assisting Dean, Phil Anady at the San Jacinto Charter Academy with their aviation program. A motion was made by Kevin McDonald to extend free membership to Dean, Anady, seconded by Vincent Michael voted on and passed by all members present. The Hemet Model Masters is joining with the San Jacinto Charter Academy Aviation Club/Class. We are pleased to have Dean; Phil Anady and his aviation students become associated with HMM. This will consist of helping students with their building projects and rc flying lessons at the main field. We have extended Courtesy Membership to the Dean and some of our club members will be sponsoring some of the students. They understand that they must join the AMA, since HMM is Chartered by the AMA. We look forward to helping some of our young people learn about this fascinating hobby of ours. Our members will attend some of the building classes at the school and assist with tips and ideas to help the students build their projects and get those projects into the air. Some of the students and Dean Phil will be at the main field this Saturday 17th, 2018 to watch the Harry Gould Memorial Pattern Contest that is held every year at HMM. Mario D Muniz

The Hemet Model Masters will extend courtesy membership to any Active Military individual allowing them to fly at our club fields as long as they have a current AMA membership. 6 Metropolitan Water District Aqueduct Information for Retrieving crashed aircraft. Mike Thompson is the service representative that services the aqueduct near our main field. If your airplane is behind the second fence and not in the water runoff it is serviced by Mike Thompson. His direct line is Note: Before calling be nice and explain that you are with the Hemet Model Masters and that you have crashed you re rc plane beyond the second fence and would like to retrieve it without breaking any laws. If your plane is between the first and second fence it is serviced by another agency (Securitas Security), Mike Thompson can not help you. Hopefully this will help our members to retrieve their aircraft. FAA Guidelines All aircraft that are flown using a ground control system, such as a transmitter, are required to participate. This includes fixed-wing aircraft, not just multi-rotors or drones. Any pilot flying models weighing between.55 pounds (or 250 grams) and 55 lbs is required to register. You only need to register once every 3 years. registermyuas.faa.gov Hobbico has filed Chapter 11 Bankruptcy and is looking for a buyer. They are going to try and restructure and according to the report will still be open for business. One of the largest in the USA for years, it will be sad to see them go under. SAFETY REMINDER We occupy property belonging to the City of Hemet and the County of Riverside, all Laws and Ordinances must be adhered to. ALCOHOL, DRUGS AND FIREARMS ARE STRICLY PROHIBITED Permanent TFRs issued for major sporting events and Disney properties On October 27, the FAA issued three Permanent Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFRs) creating restrictions for the airspace surrounding major sporting events and the Disney properties in Anaheim CA and Orlando FL. The new flight restrictions permanently prohibit the operation of unmanned and radio-controlled model aircraft within roughly 3.5 miles of both the Disneyland and Walt Disney World theme parks. The restrictions are also in place for a period of one hour before and one hour after major sporting events.

Beats $300 for similar setups Glow Igniter powered by lipo by using step down voltage converter. 7.2 v in 1.3 v out. This setup under $20. Should last months without charging.

10 SAFETY AT THE FLYING SITES PLEASE ADHERE TO CLUB SAFETY POLICIES, THESE WERE PUT IN PLACE BY YOU THE MEMBERS AND A FEW OF YOU CONTINUE TO IGNORE THEM. Starting of any engines is north side of yellow line, aircraft facing runway. No taxing in the pits and staying within established perimeters, exceeding 400 ft ceiling. We have full scale aircraft overhead all the time and it only takes ONE incident to lose our field. No flying over the field workers on adjacent properties EVER! SAFETY REMINDER We occupy property belonging to the City of Hemet and the County of Riverside, all Laws and Ordinances must be adhered to. ALCOHOL, DRUGS AND FIREARMS ARE STRICLY PROHIBITED Failure to follow these rules by any member can lead to suspension and or expulsion from the Hemet Model Masters We enjoy having members and their families with them when at the flying fields. However we must be aware that we deal with a hobby that is costly and dangerous. Only RC pilots are to be in the pits, spectators must remain south of the yellow line unless accompanied by a club member. Children running and playing around aircraft is not acceptable and they can be injured. We don t wish to offend anyone but we must consider safety our number one priority. On another note, members think about your choices of attire when flying. Loose clothing, lanyards, sandals. These items can get caught in a spinning prop and cause injury to you and damage your aircraft. A member recently dropped his aircraft while carrying it out to the taxiway and the prop did a number on his toes, probably wouldn t have been a problem if wearing shoes. This is a subject that will be addressed in the future.
