1 Oregon Good Sam Club Newsletter July 2017, Issue 7 My heart is full! You all worked so hard to help make this 2017 Rally-Samboree one of the best in lots of ways. I just keep saying Thank You over and over again when I think of what you all did. If I started writing your names here I would be sure to forget someone. Please know in your heart that I appreciate YOU! I am going to fill this Drifter with pictures, thanks to Dee, our State Photographer, and others who have sent them to me. In just another month, the OGS Board and Staff will meet for the last time this year (called the Fall Gathering) to make more important decisions. One will be about changes to our next Rally-Samboree. I really need the President or a Representative from each Chapter to be in attendance. Please put the dates (August 6-8, 2017) on your calendar. While you are at it please consider coming in early on August 3-6, 2017 to enjoy the Pow Wow, one of our 3 Regional Rallies, held in the same venue as our Fall Gathering. 1

2 THANK YOUS FROM TERRY, State Show Director and Choraliers Director Dear Friends, We are home and have an opportunity to reflect on this year s Saturday Night Show. I m blown away with the numbers that indicate how many of you participated in or helped the cause. FIRST, a grand thank you to the audience who not only stayed for the entire show in the heat, but gave us a standing ovation afterwards. Thank you, thank you!! Also, a BIG thank you to Casey Skelton our accompanist. Whenever you heard sweet music before, during and after the acts it was Casey. Thank you also to John and their friends who helped get that keyboard into the building. Now, statistics for the show. This year we had a cast of 88 people!! Then, add the 3 narrators and many support people such as Sound Crew, prop and microphone helpers, chair set ups, office help, stage set up and tear down, we had about 105 volunteer helpers just for the show. Thank you, thank you!!!! We can t do this without you. A good idea sits on the shelf without people bringing it to life. Yes, ideas are swirling for next year s A Journey in Time and Space. Details in following Drifters. Think past and future ideas! Thank you so much, Terry Parman, Show Director A big thank you to the 8 ladies who sang like angels this year in the Choraliers. I couldn t have been prouder. They were: Jeanne Turner, Joyce Dart, Rosemary Wheeler, Juanita G., Norma Newton, Ardith J., Jill Adkins and Peg Bryant. Lovely job ladies!!! 3 Eric Albert, Pipe Major of the Eugene Highlanders Pipe Band, played Amazing Grace during our Honor Our Veterans program. The names of our OGS Veterans were read. There were few dry eyes in the room. Renna Gardiner accepting her awards for 1st place in the Photo Contest and the Poetry Contest. Her poem is reprinted on page 6. Roger Lee and Karen Wells presented all the OGS contest awards. Many craft classes were held, making vases, planters, safes and clocks made by books. Here Dale and Glorietta Hagey help a group of crafters. Opening Ceremony and Memorial Service on Wednesday morning. The weather was beautiful but got warmer as the days went on. Dancing to the music of The Rose-matics following the annual Catered Dinner. Bocce Ball was one of the favorite games played on Friday during Field Games lead by the Ready Roamers. 3

6 OREGON RVing (Winning poem by Renna Gardiner) We came to Oregon and what did we see? Campers and trailers and all sorts of RV s. Then and there with a smile on my face, I fell in love with this beautiful place. We found some RV s, not quite new, And then and there we bought one too! We traveled here and we traveled there, My RV and I make an awesome pair. We drove along to the ocean shore, And my oh my! - We wanted more! We joined Good Sam and began to roam, And it became our second home. I viewed the Columbia Gorge so fine, And was heard to remark, This land is mine! And then while roaming thru Oregon s interior, We found it too, superior! And when the mountains came into view, With no surprise, they were awesome too! All in all and mile by mile, Traveling Oregon makes us smile. Sharing the road with old and new friends, We keep on hoping it never ends! Many good times, and now we know why, So many people give camping a try. We d love more friends, so please don t dally, Come on over to the Good Sam Rally! 10 DON T FORGET TO ADD THE WY-EAST POW WOW TO YOUR SUMMER CAMPING PLANS August 4-6, 2017 This year there will be a couple of golf carts available to help transport you around the fairgrounds. We are planning crafts, seminars, tournaments (pinochle, cribbage, marshmallow golf, bean bag baseball, cornhole, etc.) plenty of yummy food and lots of opportunity for hanging out with both old and new friends.
