3 FROM THE GOVERNOR S DESK Here we are in October already. This year is flying by! For all of you members with little ones, we will be having a Halloween breakfast and Halloween party for the kids on Sunday, October 26th. Any child 12 and under in costume eats for free. There will be prizes given away for best costume and lots of goodies. There will be a sign up list at the bar a couple weeks before the party. Please make sure you place the name and age of each child that will be attending to the list so that we have enough goodies for everyone. Adults will need to pay $5.00 if they want something to eat. Speaking of the adults, we will be having an adult Halloween party on October 25th. Prizes will be awarded for the costumes. Many of you know we just came back from the Annual Convention in Reno. We had a great time there learning more about Mooseheart and Moosehaven and brought back information to our members as to why we as Moose members do what we do. Congratulations to Roxanne Rangel on receiving her green cap necklace. We are proud of your accomplishments. We are looking forward to the March Mid-year Conference which will honor the new coworkers who receive the Academy of Friendship degree. We had a successful end of the summer bash. Thanks to everyone who helped out and donated food and raffle prizes. A special thank you to Bill & Diane Gonzales and Sylvia & Cam Ortiz for chairing the event. Thank you to our decorating crew Maricela Ramos, Gina Valles, Diane Gonzales, Sylvia Ortiz, Roxanne & Ray Rangel, Frank & Lorraine Diaz, Judy Samaniego, Mickey Allen, Susan & Dave Berry, and Marty & Sharon Miller. Also, to Munoz for the after-hours music which kept the members on the dance floor and closed a great party. Thank you to the clean-up crew Sylvia & Cam Ortiz, Ray & Roxanne Rangel, Frank & Lorraine Diaz and Judy Samaniego, and our bartenders Cindy Herrera and Chantelle Willis. It was a pleasure working with all of you on this event. You all put in such a great effort and it showed. Please continue to support Taco Tuesday, Friday night dinners with the King of Hearts, Marty s Zumba sessions, Monday Night Football, Sunday breakfasts and our other lodge events. These are the activities that keep our lodge open and running efficiently. We are all volunteers and we cannot do this without your support Thank you from your Governor, Bobby Valles. Legion News! Dessaray & Elsa Diaz, the young ladies who helped with the beautiful photo pictures by the door entrance. We are grateful to all of you who helped and supported this event. We are proud of all of you. Big thank you to Alyce Nelson for chairing our Star Recorder Committee Activity Night on September 11th. Included on her food crew were Sharon Miller, Nellie Throneberry, Maricela Ramos, Roxanne Rangel and Diane Gonzales. The food as always was delicious. Alyce gave an exceptional, informative, fun- filled presentation on our chapter, and how to earn degrees. Gloria Lopez, our pro-tem Chaplain brought tears to our eyes as she addressed our fraternal purpose. It was a touching and memorable meeting. Our next activity night will be on October 9th which is our annual Christmas in October and will be hosted by Gloria Lopez. All members and qualified guests are welcome. Please come and support our Mooseheart kids and Moosehaven seniors by making a monetary donation at the meeting so they can have a wonderful, blessed Christmas. Thank you to Marty & Sharon Miller for making a $100 donation from the Zumba proceeds to Moosehaven. These funds will be used to buy candy for the neighborhood kids who will trick or treat on the Moosehaven campus on Halloween night. They are also contributing $50 from the Zumba proceeds for our Sunshine Child Jose for his school supplies. Please come and support our Zumba program. It is a win-win situation, you are not only helping yourself, but you are helping others, too. It was my pleasure to be the chapter representative at the Annual Conference in Reno September 4th thru the 7th. The highlight of the weekend was seeing Roxanne receive her green cap honors. What a wonderful learning experience and I enjoyed being surrounded by great people. I am looking forward to the Mid-Year conference in March. Just a friendly reminder of the Oxnard Chapter 1464 membership drive with a chance to win an Oxnard WOTM life membership. We only have a few squares left before we find out who our first round winners will be! Don't miss out on your chance to win. Please contact Cecilia Calderon for more information. We are looking for volunteers to represent our Oxnard Lodge & Chapter by volunteering at St John's Regional Medical Center in a new program. They need drivers to drive golf carts to transport patients to and from the parking lot to the hospital's main entrance. St John's will train any volunteers. The following shifts are available, Monday thru Friday 8-11 am; 11-2 pm; and 2-5 pm. Please contact Sharon Jones, Director of Volunteer Services at St John's to volunteer your time! Be sure and let her know you are a Moose volunteer. Mahalo (Thank you) to all the volunteers and guests who come out to support/donate! You make our lodge a success! Happy Halloween, stay safe and God Bless. Your Senior Regent Gina Valles
