2 1) ACADEMICS Welcome back to school to all our Fairmont families. We trust that everyone had a good time with their families, and that our pupils are well rested to deal with the content of Term 3. The holiday recess was productive for many of our pupils and teachers. We had a successful tour to Westering in Port Elizabeth, and outstanding news from some of our other sporting disciplines. Well done to our hockey players who were selected for the South African sides! We are truly proud of your efforts. Our reports for the June examinations will be released today, and the ILST programme of assistance for those who did not achieve optimally will be set in motion. For our matrics, a very busy time lies ahead as they prepare for their trial examinations and the final examinations that follow shortly after. Parents are reminded of the academic consultative evenings next week and we hope that you make plans to meet the teachers of your children. We wish all our pupils a productive term and hope that they will give their very best with respect to their academics. FAIRMONT SETTLERS CONTACT A Fairmont Focus Special Edition : The Settlers Contact was sent to all parents regarding the sport derby to be held this coming Saturday, 25 July Please note that this day is compulsory for ALL learners. 12 14) ANNUAL PRODUCTION 2015 : DEADLY DEVIOUS DOMESTICATION Annual Production 2015 Deadly devious domestication 12 & 13 AUGUST R40 PER TICKET 14 AUGUST GALA EVENING R100 PER TICKET The housekeepers and butlers of an upper-class neighbourhood of East Village are shaken to the core when they, together with their employers, become the suspects of a heinous murder. They are all impressed and uncomfortable to be forced into the limelight. They conduct their own investigation mainly by satirically commenting and analysing the nature of their employers characters and lifestyles. This satire pokes fun with various stereotypes whilst the detective desperately tries to solve the crime. As an outsider, his task is almost impossible and he finds it difficult to infiltrate this closely knit community to get to the facts and find what has truly happened. Tickets on sale from 27 July at the payments office!

13 15) LIBRARIAN S CHOICE COMING HOME by Karen Kingsbury The Baxters make plans to come together for a summer lakeside reunion in celebration of John Baxter s seventieth birthday. But before the big day, the unthinkable happens. As the Baxter Family rallies together, memories come to light in the grief-stricken hours of waiting and praying, memories that bring healing and hope during a time when darkness may otherwise have had the final word. In a season that changes all of them, the brilliance of family love overshadows the valley of heartache. Along the way, secrets are revealed, and the truth about the Baxter Family history is finally made known. Ultimately, in this portrait of family love, the Baxters cling to each other and to God s promise of forever. 16) NATURAL BEAUTY AND AWSUM NEWSPAPER COMPETITION The AWSUM newspaper, in collaboration with Natural Beauty, has a competition running in which schools have the opportunity to WIN R and Fairmont is a finalist! 15 19) HOCKEY UMPIRES COURSE 20) SOCCER REPORT : BOYS 1 ST TEAM EAST LONDON TOUR This holiday our U19 soccer boys took part in a tour to East London. The tour was extremely successful. The boys came through with a good set of results winning two, losing two, and drawing one. They scored five goals while conceding just two. The tour was an excellent experience as the competition was intense. Despite this, they fought as a team and dominated all of the games, and unfortunately their goal scoring abilities let them down. Congratulations to the U19 football boys on their great performance. Keep up the hard work!

16 21) RUGBY REPORT 1 st Team : Fairmont vs Hamlets RFC (Away) - 18 July 2015 What an awesome friendly season game this turned out to be. The spirit throughout the morning was fantastic even though results did not go Fairmont s way. Fairmont had recently returned from a rather successful tour to P.E. earlier in the holidays. The side welcomed a much needed break from all the bumps and bruises. This resulted in a rather slow start to return to practices with some still sick/injured or away on holiday. However, during warm up on this frisky fresh morning, the boys appeared in high spirits despite witnessing some tough opposition throughout the various age groups earlier. Our opposition appeared much larger and more physical in stature. The game got underway just after 11am and this much fancied hosts were seriously in the mood for running with their athletic looking backs. It was however Fairmont who drew the first points and dominated most of the possession up front. Early points were put on the board and, despite the dominance, Fairmont struggled to convert into points after spending a large amount of time within the Hamlets 22m area. There was some great enterprise rugby being played by both sides. At the break, Fairmont held onto a good lead but this was soon eradicated by one or two small errors, losing a scrum on their own 22m which eventually resulted in a good try by Hamlets; a few missed tackles; and one or two players being caught out of position. Despite some dubious calls made by the ref and the loss, Fairmont can feel satisfied with the outing, and a few individuals really stood out. The forwards, Austin in the line outs, props scrummed well and Mark had a pretty good game with Basjan close on his heels. The backs however showed tremendous character and the centre pairing of Jordan and Cade proved to be awesome on attack and defense with some good defense from Siba. The eventual Man of the Match from Fairmont s perspective was undoubtedly Keegan van Rensburg. WOW, what an outstanding performance in defense and on attack. Despite the loss and some good tries scored by: Mark Fairhurst Basjan Swanepoel x2 x1

17 Converted by: Cade Paul x1 Conversion / x1 Penalty FINAL SCORE: Fairmont 20 : 24 Hamlets RFC It has to be said that our hosts HAMLET RFC played with some great passion, desire and flair, and displayed some good running and handling skills. The manner and spirit in which this game was played and the display of sportsmanship by both teams really kept a nice local crowd well entertained. It would be a great annual outing before a Derby each year. Thanks once again to our enthusiastic passionate hosts.
