1 . The Grand Valley Grapevine Official Monthly Newsletter of the Grand Valley Homeowners Association G.V.H.A. P.O. Box 550 New Port Richey, FL Tel. (813) Issue 220 January 2014 Page 1 of 15 Editor: Walda Pagucci 8141 Stony Bridge Drive From the Management Wishing all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year. Board Notes Happy New Year, it is the time of the year to extend our wishes for a fantastic New Year to all. It is also a time of the year to reflect and make a list of resolutions we would like to achieve for the coming year. It s a good idea to post your New Year s resolutions in a place where you could see them daily so you can track your progress. It will also provide a chance to review and to work on the items that need to be worked on. The Board of Directors and members of the Grand Valley Home Owners Association can use the same method in setting up the New Year s goals for Grand Valley. The ultimate goal would be to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to share their ideas and be able to partake in the social activities that the Association provides for the Grand valley Community. The Board of Directors started to head in this direction last year with the formation of the Social Committee. Meetings are held in the community hall, where brain storming takes place to plan the social activities for Grand Valley. The Social Committee is open to all New Year s Eve Come celebrate the New Year on 12/31 at 9 PM. Tickets are $10 per person for all members in good standing and their visitors and are available from Rich or Connie. Bring your own beverage & snacks. Sandwiches will be provided. Music by DJ Jose. Board Notes Continued) members in good standing. It has provided the community with some great social functions during More activities were held in the summer time than in the past years. Theme dances were held and were very successful and enjoyed by many. It is hoped that 2014 will be even better and include more activities for all to enjoy. Your ideas and help are needed to reach this goal. Plan to attend the Social Committee meetings and share your suggestions. Check the bulletin board in the community library for the date and time of the meetings. All suggestions are important. Let s continue to move in this direction and add to the enjoyment of being a resident of Grand Valley.

Walda Pagucci, Editor Can Tabs for Shriners Hospital Shriners Hospitals is a network of 22 children s hospitals throughout North America. Shriners Hospitals are specialty hospitals, treating children s orthopedic problems, cleft lip and palate, spinal cord injuries and severe burn injuries. All services are provided regardless of the patient s ability to pay. Keeping TABS is a fun way to help the children and at the same time promote recycling. AND THE WINNERS ARE THE CHILDREN! Please continue to turn your tabs in to Al Krueger at 8045 Monitor or to Connie in the office. Donate Used Eyeglasses Please donate any of your old eyeglasses by placing them in the box on our library table. Thank You We wish to thank all who came to the clubhouse on Sunday Oct. 19 to celebrate our 50 years of wedded bliss and Helen's seventy-fifth year of happiness and good health. A special thanks to the devious ones that put all this together and managed to keep it a secret. WHAT A SURPRISE!!! Grand Valley once again proved to be a wonderful place to live. Bob Wright

3 Issue 220 January 2014 Page 3 of 15 By-Law Committee A committee has been formed to review the By-Laws and Articles of Incorporation of the Grand Valley Home Owners Association. Georgia Gola has been selected to serve as chairperson of the committee. Georgia has been very active in the association and has worked on several of the social activities. The following members have volunteered to work on the committee: Ed Nadeau, Jean Cellini, Bob Gainer, Don Pickles, Baxer Linam, Frank Messina, Mario Cellini, Annette Gill, and Lynn Cornog. Eric Parker will be the liaison between the Board and the review committee. The charge to the committee is to review the By-Laws and to present to the Board of Directors any changes and up-dates that may be required. The Board of Directors will review the recommended suggestions and then present them to the association members who will vote to adopt the changes. This review will take some time to complete before it is ready to be presented to the membership. Our thanks to the committee for offering their time and for all the work that lies ahead of them. Thank You To Our Red Hat Ladies - Ollie and I would like t thank you for our gift certificates and for another year together. Looking forward to a new year. Susan and Ollie Thank You I want to thank everyone that helped with the Dinner/Dance. I was not happy with the way the meat turned out - sorry. No rare. But I was very happy with the help of the people that helped me - my main crew Ed, Jo. Marty, Donna, Dolly, my wife for putting up with me, and to Sis & Pat for door prize baskets. Plus all the people that brought all the good food and all the people that jumped up and helped clean up. It was nice seeing the community work together. Thanks to all, as I know I will miss someone. Hope everyone has a Healthy and Happy New Year. Rich Thanks A big thanks goes out to all the members who have worked this year on the events that were conducted by the Grand Valley Home Owners Association. Many of the residents may not think about the time and effort that is given by the volunteers in planning and organizing the activities. Dances, dinners, bingo, and special social events are all planned and staffed by your neighbors, who give their time freely, It would be impossible to conduct the social activities without their help. The next time you attend an affair, be sure to extend your thanks for their hard work. There is always room for more members to join in and help out. The Welcome Mat is out and we hope that we see you at the next planning session. Red Hat Ladies Don t forget for those who signed up The Racetrack is January 17 th. Doors open at 11:00 AM. If you need a ride, call me. Susan

7 Issue 220 January 2014 Page 7 of 15 Thank You I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the many wonderful volunteers who made our 2 nd annual Christmas Caroling parade a success. It is almost impossible to publicly thank these people by name, without missing some. But I am going to try to thank everyone and if I forget to list you by name, please know that I know who you are and I thank you so much for your help, because with out you this show would not have gone on. Thanks to Randy and Susan Chafin for providing two vehicles for our use and thanks to Ollie Parnell and Susan Chafin for driving those two red thunderbirds. Many thanks to Hugette, Helen, Nancie and Bonnie for being our dancing banner girls, and to Connie for her expert baton twirling (You still got it girls). Fred McDonald was invaluable as a driver and a helper, putting in a very long day to make this work. We experienced electrical problems at the beginning, but just like mighty mouse, here comes Phil Corbin to save the day. Thanks Phil, you helped save the show. Thank you for the people who showed up to help us decorate the trailer. Fred and Mary Grimm, Marty and Betty Lescher, Eleanor Gonzales, Charlotte Napierski Once again we were blessed to have the expertise of Les Baker and Gary Vredenburg on the piano and keyboard. Musicians extradonaire. Judy Payton plays a beautiful trumpet and was a tremendous asset to the band and we must not forget Jack Napiesrki on the harmonica. Thanks to all the musicians they did a wonderful job. Thank You (Continued) Now we move on to our choir leader Dottie Brooks, who for the second straight year, did a wonderful job and kept the music flowing. Thanks Dottie. And now for the two trailer loads of Grand Valley residents who gave up their free time to attend three rehearsals and then participate in the parade, we can't thank you enough. Your efforts were magnificent and brought pleasure to all who were lucky enough to hear you. And what would Christmas be without Santa Claus? Santa (Fred Carpenter) and Mrs Claus (Joan Meagher) graced us with their presence and delighted all the children regardless of age After the parade we adjourned to the clubhouse for light refreshments provided by the ladies in the park. Although I don't know everyone who participated, please know this event would not have been nearly as good without your efforts. Thank you very much for a great job. And thanks to all the Grand Valley residents who came out of their home on a cool evening to enjoy the singing. Mele Kalikimaka and Mahalo or as we say here Merry Christmas and thank you. Frank Parnell P.S. Ollie and I would like to wish every one a very Happy and prosperous New Year

8 Issue 2176 October 2013 Page 7 of 1 Issue 219 December 2013 Page 8 of 15 Ever Wonder... Why the sun lightens our hair, but darkens our skin? Why can't women put on mascara with their mouth closed? Why don't you ever see the headline Psychic Wins Lottery? Why is abbreviated such a long word? Why is it that doctors call what they do practice? Why is lemon juice made with artificial flavor, and dishwashing liquid made with real lemons? Why is the man who invests all your money called a broker? Why is the time of day with the slowest traffic called rush hour? Why isn't there mouse-flavored cat food? Why didn't Noah swat those two mosquitoes? Why do they sterilize the needle for lethal injections? You know that indestructible black box that is used on airplanes? Why don't they make the whole plane out of that stuff?! Why don't sheep shrink when it rains? Why are they called apartments when they are all stuck together? If con is the opposite of pro, is Congress the opposite of progress? (I like this one!!!) If flying is so safe, why do they call the airport the terminal? Now that you've smiled at least once, it's your turn to spread the stupidity and send this to someone you want to bring a smile to (maybe even a chuckle)...in other words, send it to everyone. We all need to smile every once in a while. Little Harold May Become My New Favorite!! A new teacher was trying to make use of her psychology courses. She started her class by saying, Everyone who thinks they're stupid, stand up! After a few seconds, Little Harold stood up. The teacher said, Do you think you're stupid, Harold? No, ma'am, but I hate to see you standing there all by yourself! Harold watched, fascinated, as his mother smoothed cold cream on her face. Why do you do that, mommy? he asked. To make myself beautiful, said his mother, who then began removing the cream with a tissue. What's the matter Mom, asked Harold, Are you giving up? The math teacher saw that Harold wasn't paying attention in class. She called on him and said, Harold! What are 2 and 4 and 28 and 44? Harold quickly replied, NBC, FOX, ESPN and the Cartoon Network! Harold's kindergarten class was on a field trip to their local police station where they saw pictures tacked to a bulletin board of the 10 most wanted criminals. One of the youngsters pointed to a picture and asked if it really was the photo of a wanted person. Yes, said the policeman. The detectives want very badly to capture him. Harold asked, Why didn't you keep him when you took his picture? Little Harold attended a horse auction with his father. He watched as his father moved from horse to horse, running his hands up and down the horse's legs and rump, and chest. After a few minutes, Harold asked, Dad, why are you doing that?' His father replied, Because when I'm buying horses, I have to make sure that they are healthy and in good shape before I buy them. Harold, looking worried, said, Dad, I think the UPS guy wants to buy Mom.
