BRASF Staff Jerry Stovall President & CEO Eric Engemann Vice President Hillary Simpson Marketing and PR Baton Rouge to Host US Youth Soccer Championships Hosted by the Louisiana and Baton Rouge Soccer associations, the 2014 US Youth Soccer Region III Championships will take place June at BREC s Burbank Soccer Complex. After individual state championship tournaments, the Regional Championships are the second leg of the US Youth Soccer National Championship series the country s most prestigious national youth soccer tournament. The tournament has over 200 participating teams, of which 92% will be out -of-state. The event will draw more than 3,500 athletes and an estimated 12,00 spectators. Because each team only competes once daily, out-ofstate visitors will be able to explore our beautiful city of Baton Rouge! This event gives US Youth Soccer Teams an opportunity to showcase their soccer skills against the best competition in the region and ultimately the nation. The success of events like this one depends greatly on our Baton Rouge community! Volunteer support is needed to give these athletes and their families the best experience possible while visiting Baton Rouge. Volume VII, Issue 2 #RunMardiGras RECAP The 2014 Mardi Gras Mambo was the most successful yet!

The 10k race got an all-new route, and the Mambo Race Krewe debuted a 15k race - a unique distance for Baton Rouge.

2 Volume VII, Issue 2 #RunMardiGras RECAP The 2014 Mardi Gras Mambo was the most successful yet! With 2,449 runners, the Mambo grew 37% from the largest jump in the 16-year history of the race. The 10k race got an all-new route, and the Mambo Race Krewe debuted a 15k race - a unique distance for Baton Rouge. The Mambo s 15k was named a Road Runners Club of America Championship Event. The Mambo got an all-new look this year! Capitalizing upon the vintage, Old New Orleans style, its new image is more mature and sophisticated. The race also got an independent Facebook page (Amedisys Mardi Gras Mambo) and its own website Additionally, the Race Krewe developed a new grassroots marketing effort, Mambo on the Geaux. This effort included hosting six kickoff parties at running stores across Louisiana, appearances at pre-race expos and post-race parties, and a parade route featuring the Mambo s restaurant partners. A clear, sunny sky and a light breeze made for a perfect Race Day. One of the country s top Masters runners, Kevin Castille of Lafayette, competed in the Mambo s 15K. A threetime winner of the Mambo 10k, Castille is now the Mambo s 15k record holder with a time of 48:34. The upgraded, sparkly 2014 finishers medals and personalized race bibs were a hit with Mambo runners. The Belle of Baton Rouge hosted the Post Race Fete. It featured music by Baton Rouge Music Studios and delicious eats by Sammy s, Brew Ha-Ha, Bite & Booze, Buffalo Wild Wings, Re: & Jimmy John s! Special Thanks to our Mambo Sponsors!

This event is hosted by Providence Engineering and takes place in downtown Baton Rouge. It celebrates and promotes corporate wellness. This year BRASF president Jerry Stovall is serving as the event s official wellness ambassador. Getting fit is about feeling better and having fun.
