President Dave Doyon Vice-President Gerry Barrons Advisor Murray Inverarity ca February 2010 Secretary Bob Garrett ca Editor - Dave Murray (Covers club activities and news for January 2010) The February meeting will be held at the Sportsman's Club at 2401 Dougall Ave (next to Brentwood) at 7:30, February 1, 2010 Past President Ron Harway rharway@cogeco.ca Treasurer Dave Murray davidmurray@ pobox.com Presidents Report By Dave Doyon We had our first meeting at the Sportsmen s club and it looks like it will be a good location. Monday nights seem to be a better night for many members to attend. Space was a little tight but we are looking into using the larger room at the club. I guess at the price we pay ($0) it s hard to complain. The final financial results for 2009 are complete and we did end the year with a small surplus even after the improvements were done to the road. We need to thank Cliff Caissie for arranging and delivering the gravel. I did some checking and we got an amazing deal. Let s just keep the speed down when using the road to make it last for many years. We finally have a full executive in place for I look am looking forward working with everyone and helping steer our club for If anyone has any ideas of concerns please contact me or any other member of the executive. The executive will be presenting the 2010 proposed budget at the February meeting. If there is anything you think we should add please attend the meeting so we can fine tune our financial goals for the year. Our 2010 Event schedule has been set. As always we have a very ambitious number of events and need help in running them. We will have an event signup sheet at the next meeting. Please

consider being the CD or an assistant for an event. New members are encouraged to give a try at helping out. We have two large events planned for 2010 (The Leamington Jet Event and our Open House/Air show). Both these events require significantly more effort than our other events. They are also very good sources of revenue for our club to keep our field in such good shape. We ask everyone to consider helping out at one or both of these events. Our Open House/Air show was very successful in its first year. This year we want to improve upon it and make it even more professional. Our plan is have a better noon time air show and continue the open flying before and after the show so everyone from our club can participate. The special acts are very popular with the crowd. Our club paratroopers performed admirably at the show and the jets were awesome. We would like to add to these. Any ideas are welcome. Feb 6 th will be our annual winter Num Bum. We hope to have some snow on the ground so we can use the skis many of us have. On February 21 st we are hosting an Indoor fun fly. We have invited members from the surrounding clubs to join us. All members are welcome to come out and fly or just to see what is happening with indoor flying. Dave Doyon, President dldoyon@mnsi.net Treasurer s Report By Dave Murray The financial results for 2009 are posted on the 'members only' section of the website along with the proposed budget for Please try to review these before the February meeting as we will be seeking membership approval for both of these. The budget is still open for discussion so come with any further suggestions. The 2009 books are now closed and I will be prepared to discuss any questions. There is a general ledger containing all club transactions for the year which is available for inspection by any club member upon request. Dave Murray Treasurer davidlmurray@pobox.com Editor's Notes By Dave Murray Members will notice that I have changed the format of the Emitter. I have done away with the columns that were used on the previous format. We no longer print copies of the Emitter as we exclusively use electronic distribution and so I felt that the column format just made it harder to read in electronic format. In addition, it is easier to include pictures when the pages are not broken into two columns. Hopefully we can add to the content by including some pictures each month. Members are encouraged to send me any pictures and short stories or comments that they might like to include in the Emitter.

I would also like to acknowledge the 6 years of effort that Dan Kalapos has put into keeping the Emitter going. The Emitter is our record of club activities and history and Dan has quietly worked away to maintain this record for 72 months. Many thanks Dan! January's Meeting Minutes By Bob Garrett Minutes of General Meeting Monday January 4, 2010 Windsor Sportsmen s Club 7:30 PM The meeting was called to order at 7:30 by President Dave Doyon. As there was no Emitter published for December, no minutes required approval. Moved by Dennis Pratt and Seconded by Bill Green That the Treasurer s Report be accepted as presented. Carried NEW MEMBERS AND GUESTS: Welcome Paul Barber. OLD BUSINESS Elections were held for the 2010 Executive positions of Secretary, Vice President, and Executive Advisor. Bob Garrett was acclaimed as Secretary Gerry Barrons was acclaimed as Vice President Murray Inverarity was acclaimed as Executive Advisor Moved by Ron Harway and Seconded by Palmer Johnson That nominations be closed. Carried The Executive for 2010 has been registered with MAAC. President Dave Doyon Past President Ron Harway Vice President Gerry Barrons Secretary Bob Garrett Treasurer Dave Murray

Executive Advisor Murray Inverarity Emitter Dave Murray John Staudt presented an amendment to the clause regarding Volunteer Hours on our membership application. The wording is: "We believe that our club is one of the finest in the area, in order to maintain this level of quality and keep dues in check S.P.R.C. requests that all members volunteer a minimum of 4 hours per year in the aid of field and facility maintenance, running events etc. In the event that any member is unable or unwilling to do so the club requests that they pay a levy of $5.00 per hour not worked ($20.00 max) added to the following years dues. This should not be considered a penalty but as a way for these individuals to make their own personal contribution to the club. S.P.R.C. will rely on the honour system in the collection of these funds." Moved by Palmer Johnson and Seconded by Art Songal That the amendment be accepted as presented and appear on the new application forms effective immediately. Carried The club Membership forms now contain the amended clause. (Editor's Note: I am very happy to see this issue resolved in such an elegant way. As Treasurer, I had a real problem with our past policy as it was my task to inflict the penalty on people which I found to be a very distasteful thing to do. I have already received some voluntary payments from members for last year's hours. My personal thanks to John Staudt for coming up with a classy way to handle this issue. - Dave Murray) Moved by Bill Green and Seconded by Kent Taylor That effective immediately, NEW members who join on or after September 15, pay the annual dues, but will be carried through to include the next full season. This aligns our fee policy with MAAC dues. Carried NEW BUSINESS Dave Beaulieu approached a couple of four wheelers at Tower Field. Both men stated they never ride on our field. Dave requested that if they see others, that they advise them to respect our property. We were reminded to approach all visitors on our field with respect to build goodwill with our neighbours. The first task of the new executive is to strike a budget for the 2010 season. Any member who has suggestions for the budget are advised to contact an executive member with their ideas. It was suggested that the rotting railroad ties around the parking lot be upgraded. Another suggestion was to inspect and repair the Transmitter Compound as it is showing signs of deterioration.

Dennis Pratt announced that the Heavy Lift competition is again being held this year at Tower Field. While this event is cost neutral, there is the opportunity for the club to raise funds through the sale of food and refreshments. Runways need to be rolled and flattened and thus should be addressed in the budget. Paul Sousa mentioned the storage costs at Leamington Airport need to be considered as well as a proposed budget for the Jet event is forthcoming. Dave Doyon mentioned that a spring work crew will be assembled to look at all areas of our field including access to additional parking for special events. Events for 2010 The Jets Over Leamington Event is again scheduled for May 28,29,30. Heavy Lift will take place at Tower Field The Annual Open House and Air Show is planned again for All of our standard smaller club events will be scheduled provided a CD is found for each event. Consideration to scheduling events for Saturdays leaving Sunday as a rain date is recommended. Dennis Pratt suggested the Executive consider members who may be candidates for Leader Members or MAAC CD status. Murray Inverarity proposed that since Indoor Flying has become so popular, that the club consider hosting some indoor event. Next year we hope to have a venue much larger than the Herman gym. The members were advised that on January 25, 2010 Action Hobby and Kondor Model Projects will be putting on a display starting at 6:00pm. This event is being hosted by the Southern R/C Flyers. Moved by Dennis Pratt and Seconded by Ron Mitchell That the business portion of the meeting be closed. Carried POST MEETING ACTIVITIES Thank you Ron Harway for another excellent year end Video. Many times the group was in stitches. What a great way to recap the fellowship and flying we all enjoy with our hobby. Each year Ron s productions get better with some very clever and funny special effects. Members Present

Bill Green says that this is the ugliest airplane ever invented but one has to take into account the envy factor as this is one fine flying airplane designed by the handsome guy seen flying it Mark 16 Spitfire: Speaking of designing airplanes Sepp Uiberlacher is building another copy of his original design of the Spitfire Mark 16. This will be a real treat to watch for all spectators and pilots during next season Indoor Flying: This season indoor flying at the Herman gym is getting really popular. Jan 17th, over 20 participants showed up for the usual two hour session starting at 1:00 PM. Dave Doyon and Bill Green prepare to fight it out for air supremacy in the gym.
