6 Youth Corner Hello everyone! It s me, Ishani, again! Ah, spring is in the air. Time for warmer weather, rainy skies, and all sorts of new life popping up after hibernation! To celebrate this wonderful springtime, I have included a spring word search! Don t you just love spring? You know what else comes with spring? HOLI! As has become tradition in the Indian community, we are having a super fun Holi celebration again this year! Bring all your friends and have a blast (literally). And for our fun fact Did You Know? The name for the holiday Holi comes from the story of Narasimha. It is taken from King Hiranyakashipu s sister, Holika. Well, now it s time for me to go! I hope to see you all at Holi, celebrating with us! ~Ishani Kejriwal~
7 SIMPLY FOR YOU 10 Kitchen Tips By Pratibha Phadke-Gupta 1. WAX PAPER IS VERY USEFUL: Use it to collect grated cheese or to place under seasoned flour for breading or spices for blackening. 2. MAKE A HEALTHY CHICKEN DISH: remove the skin from the chicken. This will remove the major fat content on the chicken 3. AVOID STICKY RICE: soak washed rice in water for at least 5 minutes before cooking then add teaspoon of oil during cooking to get long grains of cooked rice. Do not drain the water from rice, you will need the nutrients.use any utensil to cook, but make sure water should be about one and half inch on the top of surface of the rice.when water starts to boil wait for 5 min, then turn the heat off, cover the lid and after 10 min your fluffy rice is ready. 4. MAINTAIN THE BRIGHT GREEN COLOR: Add pinch of sugar while cooking to any green leafy vegetables. This will help retaining bright color 5. KEEPS THE NUTS FROM STICKING TO THE PROCESSOR: Before chopping nuts in a food processor, dust them with flour. 6. BEFORE HEATING A NONSTICK PAN: Always coat it with nonstick vegetable cooking spray and never heat the pan more than 1 minute before adding food. 7. SAVE WEAR AND TEAR ON YOUR GOOD STAINLESS STEEL AND COPPER POTS. Collect a large assortment of Chinese wooden paddles and spoons and use them to protect. 8. FOR PERFECT HARD-COOKED EGGS; cover the eggs with cold water for 5 min and then bring to a boil. Then turn off the heat and let the eggs sit on the burner for 10min. 9. HAVE YOU EVER PEELED GARLIC FROM YOUR FINGERS AND YOUR HANDS SMELL? Spray white vinegar on your hand and rub it then use soap It will take away the smell of garlic. 10. BY MISTAKE YOU HAVE ADDED TOO MUCH TOMATOES TO A CURRY: And it turned out sour, just add 4-5 cubes of croutons and 1/2 tsp. of sugar to the curry you will get best curry. DVD/BlueRay For Sale Keep the memories alive by getting your very own copy of the DVD/Blue Ray of the Republic Day Program taken by a professional videographer. The cost is $15.00 for a DVD and $22.00 for a BlueRay. Please contact any of the committee members to get your own personal copy
