State President's Message October is over already? It is spooky how quickly it ended! We started off the month with our first Moose Awareness Congress/Boston 2018 Fundraiser Golf Tournament, hosted by the Yarmouth Moose Family Center; the rain held off and we had a great day to play golf on Cape Cod, and raise money for the Congress that MA/RI will be hosting. Russ O'Neill's Pilgrim Celebration dinner was delicious and a fun time - North Reading was a gracious host, and the young people that cooked the beef and chicken and the rest of the meal did a fantastic job (Carol Ann George has the Chicken recipe for those that wanted it!)! Then, the State meeting, the State Chili Cook-off and the State Cribbage tournament were all held in Greenfield; thanks to the Greenfield Lodge and Chapter for hosting these events! The Chili was hot, the cribbage was competitive, and a good time was had by all! The very next day Greenfield hosted a Legion Celebration, where new Moose Legion members were welcomed; thanks to Bob Hupfer and the other Officers of Minuteman #28 for holding this celebration! The next weekend, the fundraiser for Hugh and Holly at the Yarmouth Moose Family Center was crammed with friends from all over the state - I could not believe the generosity and kindness everyone showed, because we know "a burden heavy to one is born lightly by many". I was so happy that many of us got to talk to Hugh that day - he has been missed at State meetings and events. Congratulations to Bruce Powell for his Pilgrim Celebration that same day in Mt. Holly Moose Lodge in NJ - and thank you for those MA/RI members that were able to attend it to represent the rest of us. Let's not forget the Cradle Fund collection, going on now in most Social Quarters! Rich and Dawn Maxwell are doing a great job in getting the word out! November will usher in the "Membership Retention Week" that all Lodges and Chapters should be participating in; however, retaining members is a yearround job for all of us. Youth Awareness is happening at the State House in Boston this month! Cheer on the High School students from your Lodge as they present their messages to kids throughout the state! Speaking of Youth Awareness, the deadline for selling the Holiday Calendars is fast approaching; the first of 38 daily prizes will be awarded on Christmas Day! Let's sell the remaining calendars as all the proceeds go toward Youth Awareness programs! Our next State meeting will be in Yarmouth on November 8 - good luck to all Lodges holding Thanksgiving meals this month, and providing for our communities. Fraternally, Ray Tompkins

Good Day Brothers and Sisters, Fall is here! The leaves are changing and soon they will be falling. Signs of the Holidays are starting to appear! We don t know about you but we are just not ready for the hassle and bustle of the season. With the fall comes the Moose Charities Cradle Fundraiser. At the Annual convention we reported that our 2013 efforts were not as successful as in the past and we needed to make a commitment to see our MA/RI Association get Back to Basics and make a different this year. We need your help! Every Administrator, Governor, Senior Regent, Moose Charities Chairman and member, it s up to you to make a difference. It s to you to get involved. Please don t place this responsibility of asking for a donation on your stewards. This is everyone s responsibility. This is the job we signed up for when we took the oath of membership and office. Here are some ideas to get you started. Challenge other s to participate Challenge Lodges and Chapter to a friendly completion Use different color paper to identify groups, or different donation amounts At your meals or dinner events how about placing cradles on the table for members use When serving a liquid refreshment leave a cradle Have a Rocking Chair Challenge rock till they drop Have your Moose Charities Chairman provide them at your meetings Make sure you tell your membership one hundred percent of their donation is use for support of our children and seniors. Just to give you a head start we have supplied you a form for the Cradle s. Administrators should have received the fundraising kit. Thank you for and let s get the job done! In Friendship Always and Fraternally yours Dawn and Rich Maxwell MA/RI Moose Charities Chairman

Moose Members Can Watch Mooseheart Events Online You can now view Mooseheart Athletics & Events live on your computer! Here s how: In your web browser type in and press enter. Next in the Find a cube to watch an event box, type in Mooseheart and click on GO. On the next screen click on the name Mooseheart School.

You should now be directed to the Mooseheart Cube Page. You will see a list of events. Find the event you want and click on Watch Event. There are even some past events you might like to view. Upcoming Mooseheart Athletic Events: Boys Varsity Football - Saturday, Sept. 27th vs. Christian Liberty Academy 1:00pm, CST (Homecoming) - Friday, Oct. 10th vs. Ottawa Marquette 7:00pm, CST Girls Varsity Volleyball - Tuesday, Sept. 30th vs. Harvest Christian 5:00pm, CST (Homecoming) - Thursday, Oct. 2nd vs. Westminster Christian 5:00pm, CST - Thursday, Oct. 9th vs. Rockford Christian Life 5:00pm, CST - Tuesday, Oct. 14th vs. Schaumburg Christian 5:00pm, CST **View all athletic schedules on Mooseheart s website Be sure and bookmark the Mooseheart Cube Page and check back often for more upcoming events! How great is this! We have watched a few Football games in the past and are excited to take in some of the Girl s events! What a great way to get Back to Basic s! It s easy to bring Mooseheart into your Social Quarters! All you need is a computer and projector and start creating fun for your membership. Want to make it a Moose Charities Fundraiser? How about Build a Dog? Steam or grill hot dogs supply any kind of fixings you can dream of? There s always the standards ketchup, mustard, relish and onions but add in some chili, Sauerkraut and cheese and watch the fun begin! Be creative! Maybe it takes a little more to get your members there. How about putting a little raffle together? Make sure to add in some Mooseheart items. Members get one free entry for participating. You can always offer those that wish the ability to purchase tickets. This works well at our events. How about donating the proceeds to Mooseheart Boosters? Introducing Mooseheart right into your homes will certainly add that fraternal atmosphere and get members to see their donations and hard work paying off. How about engaging your Moose Charities, Sports and Activities Chairman both the WOTM and LOOM to coordinate. Let s make it a triple team play! All we are asking is give it a try! Send us some pictures of your Mooseheart Sporting Event and we will make sure they get to International for you. Always in Friendship and Fraternally yours, Dawn and Rich Maxwell Moose Charities Chairman MA/RI

Connecticut State Moose Association s Texas Hold em Tournament November 8, 2014 Rules: 1. Table assignments will be determined by random draw. 2. Changing of seats is not allowed after play starts except as assigned by director. 3. Absent players will be dealt in and post all blinds. An attempt will be made to contact the absent player. If no contact can be made the players chips will remain until the 3 rd level of blinds, at which time the chips will be removed. 4. There are no antes. 5. Blinds will increase every 25 minutes. If you are in the middle of a hand the next hand will be dealt at the new level. 6. If you are not seated at the table when it becomes your turn to act your hand is dead. 7. All chips must remain on table and in full sight of all players. No one may remove chips from table. 8. The number of players at a table will be kept reasonably balanced by the transfer of a player as needed. The next Big Blind will be moved to balance tables. The new person at a table will be dealt in immediately unless they sit down in the small blind or button position. In this case they must wait until the button passes. Anyone not willing to move will forfeit their chips and be eliminated from the tournament. 9. If a player lacks sufficient chips to call a blind the player is entitled to get action on whatever amount of chips he has remaining. 10. Verbal bets are binding. 11. No string bets. A string bet is where a player makes more than one forward motion when putting chips in for a raise. It could also be a string bet if a player says I see your call and raise you. The proper way to raise is to say I raise or simply push all the chips you intend to bet in a single forward motion. Please announce all raises. 12. Please do not play out of turn. This could result in a 1 round penalty. 13. Once cards are mucked they must stay in the muck. 14. All hands will be turned face up whenever a player is all-in and the betting action is complete. There are side pots. 15. There is no rabbit hunting! (no dealing when the hand is over to see the rest of the cards.) 16. If a card is exposed when dealing the deal will continue giving the player whose card was exposed the last card. The exposed card will be the burn card. If the exposed card is a Blind, there will be a re-deal. 17. Do not expose your cards or talk about your hand while the cards are live! This will result in a one round penalty. 18. Once a player has been eliminated from the tournament they must leave the table immediately. 19. Please be courteous of all players. Foul language, throwing of cards or outburst of any kind will not be tolerated. 20. Smoking is NOT permitted in the hall, but you may step outside at anytime and we will break for smokers every 3 to 4 rounds. 21. We will break and chip up when necessary. Your Chips Must Remain On The Table! There will be an add-on available if you would like. At the end of the fourth level of play, if you have chips left you may add on an extra $10, 000 worth of chips to your stack for $ Of this, $15.00 will go to the prize pool and $10.00 to MC/CSMA. All players must initial this paper. Please see Louise Russell if you have any questions. Thank you and good luck to you all!

Dear Coworkers, On September 4, 2014, our co-worker Lori Schofield's husband (Wayne Schofield)passed away suddenly at the age of 49. Wayne was a long time member of our Marlboro Lodge He was the current Treasurer of our Lodge. Wayne and Lori have three children, Ashley, Chris and Dakota. We, their friends and fellow lodge and chapter members, are having a fundraiser for them on Friday November 7, 2014 at the Hudson-Concord Elks, 99 Park Street, Hudson, MA. 7pm-midnight. There will be food, raffles and music. This will be a night to get together to remember a great man who was always there to help others. Wayne was a DJ, who played at many events in the city, as well as our club. Both, Wayne and Lori, were and are very involved with Marlboro Youth Football and Cheerleading. Tickets to the fundraiser are $25.00 per person. Please come and join us. If you are unable to attend, but would like to make a donation, that would be greatly appreciated. Donations can be made payable to: "Wayne D Schofield Memorial Fund" and sent to: Marlboro Moose lodge Fitchburg Street Marlboro MA ALL Proceeds will go directly to the family to help pay for expenses. Attached is the flyer to the fundraiser. Sincerely, Betty Zina Recorder Chapter 657 Good Afternoon Sean / Rich, I'm sure that your wondering about the subject line. Nana Fran If you get the Patriot Ledger there was a wonderful article on September 15 about Nana Fran and her involvement with the ABCD Foster Grandparents program. there was also a short video on September 15 at patriotledger.com about Nana Fran. Needless to say that I'm talking about my mom, COR Frances Johnson. For the past 16 years she's been a volunteer at first the Amelia Della Chiesa Early Childhood center and for about the past 12 years at Just Right Daycare in Weymouth. According to the article she's donated 13,200 hours to caring for preschool children by giving them help with their projects or just a kind word and helping hand. Fran was honored on September 15 at the ABCD Community Service Awards for her dedication to children as Elder Services 2014 Volunteer Of The Year. There was a wonderful dinner, program and concert from Mary Wilson of the Supremes. As proud as I am of my Mom I juat can't help but think what a wonderful model of what it means to be a member of the Moose Fraternity. This type of dedication is what Mooseheart is all about and seeing it at a Community Level just reinforces the great things that we do. Is there any way to get a printed article into the State Newsletter. I'd love for everyone to see what a profound difference one person can make in the lives of others. Fraternally, Gordon Johnson
