2 2012 The 2012 Canada Day Poster Challenge is underway! You are invited to share your thoughts about what Canada means to you by creating an original poster that reflects this year's theme: 1812: The Fight for Canada The years mark the 200 th anniversary of the War of 1812, an important chapter in our history. In Upper and Lower Canada (Ontario and Quebec), the British, with the help of First Nations allies and Canadians, succeeded in protecting their territory against the American invasion. These historic events led to the establishment of our country and 200 years of peace between Canada and the United States. Celebrate the significant people, important sites and history of Canada in your work of art. Explore and show the wealth of our heritage by including scenes from daily life: music, dance, architecture, fashion, and culinary traditions of the period. The possibilities are endless. Draw inspiration from the quiz provided in this brochure and visit the Government of Canada website that commemorates the War of 1812 at Learning resources are available on the Poster Challenge website at the following address: A printable version of the publication is available at the same address. NOTICE TO TEACHERS OR GROUP LEADERS: We would like to encourage as many young people as possible to take part in the 2012 Poster Challenge. Please read through the complete list of entry rules and eligibility criteria with your students and submit the posters of all participants without conducting a pre-selection process. We encourage you to include this activity in your lesson plans and to help your students represent, in their own way, an important period in Canadian history.
