1 Homecoming is Coming By:Shelby Maldonado We are now four weeks in to the fall semester, and everyone seems to be getting into the swing of things. Some of us may think school is starting to get boring and routine, but thats not the truth at all. My favorite week of the year is coming up: Homecoming Week! Homecoming week is a week for costumes, makeup, pep rallies, and of course football and homecoming queen. Homecoming week will have a unique theme. Each day will also have a sub-theme, related to the main theme. And of course there is always costume day! Costume day is the most unpredictable day in my opinion, because you can never guess what will walk through the doors of Russell County High School. That is the fun part! Costume day is a day that people can be comfortbale about expressing themselves. Some of the costumes Russell County High School has seen in the past are baseball players, fat suits, and Avatar. Even our own teachers dress up! Friday is Laker day where all our staff and students show their Laker pride, and let me tell you, we have a LOT of it! From Laker t-shirts, to colored skinny jeans and painted faces, Russell County High School will be full of Laker pride! Hope to see you all decked out during homecoming week! 3 Do you know the best part of being involved in clubs at Russell County High School? That you are involved and staying busy with something. Being active in your school during your 4 years of high school keeps you motivated and deteremined to do good so you can be rewarded when you get to go on trips and such. My favorite club at RCHS is DECA. Being DECA President is a very rewarding opportunity that makes me even more invovled in the club. DECA is the business and marketing club at RCHS. DECA stands for Distributive Education Clubs of America. At RCHS, we are involved with many Community Activites, Region and State competition, DECA week, and many more things. We do Operation Christmas Child, Car Washes, Food and Clothing Drives, sell Yankee Candles, Krispy Kreme donuts, and Thirty-One. Being involved with DECA looks good on resumes and can help you in the future with community relationships. Learning how to become a better entreprenuer and business person makes you successful. To be in DECA, you have to pay $20 to Mrs. White by September 31st. You also can become an officer of one of the following positions: President, Vice President, Secretary, Reporter, Treasurer, and Historian. Being an officer means you help run the meetings and organize events we host. We have club meetings once a month. The best part of DECA is going on the trips, getting to compete, and meeting new people each time. When we go to Region and State we get to personally compete against people from all over the state. If you place in the top so many at Region then you go to State. State is in Louisville and is a 3 day trip(which you get to miss school). You need to consider being in DECA because of course it is THE BEST CLUB AT RCHS!

New In Town It takes no time for me to get ready for school, because it is prohibited to wear makeup or jewlry, and also I am not allowed to style my hair. Now off to my 5 story school.

There is no need to bring my materials, because it is all in my desk. There is no teacher waiting for me in class, my instructors come to me.

5 New In Town It takes no time for me to get ready for school, because it is prohibited to wear makeup or jewlry, and also I am not allowed to style my hair. Now off to my 5 story school. It begins from 7:30a.m and ends at 5:00p.m. But, when you get there, it is straight to the bathrooms for cleaning until 7:50a.m. After that, I head to class. There is no need to bring my materials, because it is all in my desk. There is no teacher waiting for me in class, my instructors come to me. Later on, I m off to lunch and afterwards I proceed with a 30 minute nap. This time is mandatory, either take the time to nap or study. After school, I go to Cram School, which focuses on whatever area is weakest. Every two months, there is a big test, but on the bright side, summer vacation is from July 13th to August 31st. Rumor has it that he popped the question about a month ago, but they have kept a low profile. So far, no date has been set for the newly engaged couple. American Idol is growing closer and the three official judges have been chosen. Harry Connick Jr. is joining the judging panel this season for the first time, along with seasons 10 and 11 judge, Jennifer Lopez. Of last season s three judges, Keith Urban is the only one who is returning for season 13. This week in celebrity news, Fergie and Josh Duhamel gave birth to their first baby together.they decided to name him Axl Jack Duhamel after Guns N Roses singer, Axl Rose. He was born in Los Angeles at Cedars-Sinai Hospital and weighed in at 7 pounds and 10 ounces.
