3 Music Note The Inter-Elementary Festival Orchestra will present a 25-minute concert this Friday, May 9:15 am. The Inter-El Orchestra is an auditioned group made up of students from all eleven elementary schools. We are proud of the following Duffy students who will be performing with the group: Bradan G., William H., Emily H., Ravi K., Aidan P. and Catherine Z. The concert begins 9:15am. Enjoy the performance! Thank you, David Thomas Choir News Our Duffy choir is singing the National Anthem at a Yard Goats game on Thursday, June 14th. If your choir member can join us on the field, tickets can be purchased through the PTO. A flyer was sent home last week. Additional information about the performance meeting time and place will be sent home in June. A special thank you to the PTO and Jenn O'Connell for providing this opportunity for our choir. 4 PE Update I want to give a HUGE THANK YOU to all the families who helped, participated, and donated to the Jump Rope for Heart Fundraiser. Your generosity is overwhelming and THANKS for your continued support and efforts. Field Day Our Grades 3 and 5 Field Days were GREAT! Students displayed tremendous effort, skills, and passion to perform their best. Grade 4 Field Day is rescheduled to Monday, May 21, due to rain. Grades K-1-2 Field Day will take place from 9:15 to 11:30 am on Thursday, May 24! I hope parents can come out and support their child s participation in physical education. 5 Crazy About Sports Camp Crazy About Sports is a program that will provide kids the opportunity to play hard and have fun. This program gives kids the chance to develop the skills, confidence, and desire to be active with Mr. DeVeau, Duffy s PE Teacher. With so much going on during this busy last month of school, if you are ever in doubt of a field trip date, after school activity, or anything happening at Duffy, it s easy to check by going to Konstella and finding any DUFFY eblast. Click here to view the calendar. The Sunday morning update you receive from Konstella pulls information from the Duffy master calendar. It s not a perfect system so there will be an occasional mistake (if there s been a date change or an event is canceled, for example), so if you are unsure about any activity, please check the master calendar. Family Fitness Night was held on May 3 rd. Our Family Nights Committee did a wonderful job planning the event. It was a hot-humid night with a rainy finish, but all who attended had a great evening! Students earned fitness charms for each lap and fitness station. Very special thanks to Christine Fischera for organizing the running club and fitness stations and Karla Kress-Boyle for leading us all in a relaxing yoga session to close the evening. Duffy teachers are the best Kerrie Andrews and Rebecca Raymond recognized this by organizing Teacher Appreciation week May 7-11 th. Thank you to all volunteers for contributing to the teacher breakfast, a delicious Ethnic Lunch, and the smoothie bar. Teachers truly appreciated these special treats and they loved seeing students dressed in their favorite colors on Tuesday and were thrilled to receive their acrostic crafts. Thank you to the wonderful 5 th grade class for recognizing all of Duffy s specials teachers. There is a bulletin board in the library hallway paying tribute to all of these great teachers. When a call went out for help with the Duffy Art Show, a team of volunteers quickly assembled to ensure that the show would go on. Demonstrating true Duffy compassion for our art teacher Mrs. Schott and this annual Duffy tradition, parents helped organize and hang almost 500 pieces of artwork. The halls of Duffy now look like a major art gallery and students are loving seeing their artwork or finding a classmate s. All are invited to attend the Duffy Art Show closing on Wed. May 30 th, 6:00-7:30pm.

Thank you to all volunteers who have signed up to help so far. This annual Duffy community event is sponsored by the PTO. It is only possible to put on an event of its size with the help of parent volunteers. PLEASE consider signing up for a ½ hour shift to oversee an activity. (Sign up alongside friends or classmates to make your shift more fun!) 11 West Hartford Special Education PTO May 2018 Events Saturday, May 7-9:30pm Silent Spring Fling Dance Join us at The Underground on Saturday, May 19th from 7 to 9:30 for an all-inclusive dance party experience designed specifically for individuals with sensory sensitivities. The DJ will spin dance favorites through wireless Bluetooth headphones allowing attendees to control their own volume levels. All students (typical and non-typical) 10 years of age and older are invited to attend. Tickets are $5 each for students. Tickets available online now at Parents are strongly encouraged to attend for free and a parent lounge is provided for families to relax and connect with other members of their community during the event.
