1 92nd Year Moose Family Center No Moose Family Center No Woodstock, Illinois MOOSE CALL Loyal Order of Moose October 2009 Robert Dale Scholarship Award Winner Conner W. Sadzeck On behalf of the Woodstock Moose Lodge and Family Center, I would like to say congratulations to Conner W. Sadzeck. Conner was chosen at are recent Annual Illinois State Association Moose Convention, to be awarded a $1,000 Scholarship in the Robert Dale Scholarship Program. Conner is the son of Steven and Pamela Sadzeck, and attends Crystal Lake Central High School. Conner s opportunity for this scholarship came because of his academic record and the Moose membership of his parents in the Woodstock Moose Lodge. The scholarship may be used for tuition, fees or books, at any accredited academic institution. Congratulations Conner! Get Your Tickets Now! On October 24, 2009 our lodge will honor the great works of James J. Davis, on what is known as Mooseheart Founders Day. Around the week of October 27, more than a million men and women of the Moose fraternal organization will come together in their lodge home to celebrate the 103rd Anniversary of the Moose enrollment of James J. Davis the man who created the modern Moose Order and who founded Mooseheart, an Illinois community and school for children in need that has offered a fresh start to thousands of kids. We are proud of the legacy of Jim Davis. But we are even prouder of the tireless volunteer efforts of today s Moose men and women who are inspired by Davis s example. So, on this 103 year benchmark this October, it would be a perfect time to open our doors for an evening to enable the men and women of our Moose Center to become better acquainted with their communities, and to honor those within our communities who have made Woodstock such a great place to live. We will hold an Open House for all members, perspective members, and the general public in conjunction with the 3rd Annual Woodstock Community Hero Awards. This event is open to the public and will honor local heroes in our community, and some of the people who make Woodstock such a great place to live. It will also be our opportunity to show the community the good work we do, not only in the community but also across the country. It is also a great opportunity for members and perspective members to learn more about the organization you belong to and support two charities at the same time. Tickets for the event will be $15.00 and will include dinner. There will be a limited number of tickets sold for this event so be sure to get them early. All proceeds are split 50/50 between Moose Charities & the Woodstock Food Pantry. Please purchase your tickets now, so we can make plans for food as soon as possible. See you there! 2 2 Moose Family Center No L.O.O.M. Lodge No W.O.T.M. Chapter No Clay Street, Woodstock, IL Office Phone: Lodge Phone: Moose Call: Website: Governors Message The fall October is here and it s hard to believe we are just three months away from Where has the time gone? But, October is here and we have a number of things to accomplish before the end of the year, as well as many fun and exciting activities coming up and to plan. The last few months of this year will be busy as well as hopefully a lot of fun. One area that I would like to request your help with is with our membership campaign. Now is the time to grab a few membership applications and talk to your friends, family, co-workers, whomever, about this great organization. There are many benefits of being a Moose Lodge or Chapter member, and the children we just met again last week at Mooseheart are counting on us to invite those we know to be a part of this great organization. Please carry a few applications with you and don t be afraid to share the story of the Moose. If you don t have any, ask an officer and we will get them for you. Now is time to Be a part of the Solution. As many of you know by now, our defending circle was diminished by the loss of Brother Art Johnson, at the end of August. Art was a long time member of our lodge who recently decided to become more involved in his lodge and its activities, and ran for office in May of this year. Art was elected to the 3 year trustee position of our lodge, and was a hard working member of the board of officers. He will be missed. That being said our lodge was forced to hold an immediate Special Election to fill Arts position on the board. Nominating Committee meetings were held on September 15th, 22nd, and 29th and will be announced at the October 1st Floor meeting. Elections will be held October 15th here in the lodge. Please watch for the election signs in the lodge with all the details. We will have more information as well at our October 1st floor meeting. You must be a current member of the LOOM, and show your Membership card to be able to vote. Thanks to everyone for all you do to make Woodstock Moose Lodge & Family Center the place it is today. From the Administrators Desk W ow!!! Have you seen the fall decorations at the lodge -? What a great job as always by Diana Healy and this time she teamed up with Carol Sweeney nice going girls. Well October is here and we have very busy calendar of events starting with the Mooseheart football team playing on the 3rd at Alden-Hebron high school and then visiting the lodge for an early dinner before returning back to Mooseheart. Also that night we have our welcome new member night introducing some of our newest members to the lodge, so while you are here to see the Mooseheart kids you can also meet some of our new members as well. October 17th will be the annual Fellowship dinner introducing our new fellows Al Klabunde and Steve Krause. Congratulations guys on receiving the 3rd degree of our fraternity. Rounding the month out is our Kids Holloween party on the 25th of the month. So in between these dates don t forget our Monday and Friday night dinners invite a friend or that neighbor of yours down for some fellowship and fun at the ole moose lodge and remember sign a member and you gain a Moose friend. Fraternally yours, R.H.Sweeney, Lodge Administrator We urge all our members to visit at least weekly, for the latest news on Mooseheart, Moosehaven, Moose Charities plus updates on fraternal activities, sporting events and other breaking news from around the Moose fraternity! Go thru your cupboards or when you re at the store pick up a few items to donate. If you do not live in the Woodstock Area Please check with your local food pantry as I m sure all Pantry s are in the same need. Chip also donated a number of hours to install the unit, and as well saved the lodge from some costly repairs. Thank you Ralph and Chip for your generosity, it is greatly appreciated by all. 8 8 Moose Family Center No Woodstock s Sun Shine Children and Grandparent What is the Sunshine Child and Grandparent Program? The Sunshine Child and Grandparent program are two programs worked in conjunction with Mooseheart and Moosehaven. Our Mooseheart children currently come from all different parts of our country and Great Britain. There is at least one student who has been at Mooseheart since he was two months old. They all came there for different reasons but all of them are there because they are in need. Whether it is to a loss of a parent, a situation where the parents or grandparent just can t take care of them, it can be for many reasons. But being away from your family or without a family can bring on feelings of being alone or forgotten. Our Moosehaven residents currently come from all over North America, plus Great Britain and Bermuda. Also being far away from their families, friends, Lodges, and Chapters. Too often, the distance and long time between family visits can create a feeling of being forgotten. As a lodge or chapter we maintain contact with our Sunshine grandparent in order to help ease those feelings. With both programs we get the chance to develop some rewarding relationships with some people that really could use to hear from us. It is imperative I believe that they know they have others thinking of them. It is our responsibility to stay in touch with them and not forgot them. That could mean sending cards at their birthdays, letters just because, sometime gifts or small amounts of spending money. Some gifts are things like stamps, gift cards, needed clothes, etc. These two programs are important programs and your Lodge and Chapter members have taken on this very important responsibility. We will soon be displaying the pictures of our Sunshine Children and Grandparent in a prominent place within our Social Quarters. Information on what they like, their birthdays, and things the need will be available. If you care to write them, send them something, or just want to get more information. Feel free to contact myself or any officer of the lodge.
