1 St. Pat s Knightly News Knights of Columbus St. Patrick of Heatherdowns Council #14155 Newsletter September 2015 Council Information The Council meets on the first and third Mondays of the month. We begin with the Rosary at 6:45 PM and the meetings start at 7:00 PM in the Crites Room of the Holy Family Center. The first meeting of the month is scheduled as the Business Meeting night, whereas the third Monday of the month is more of a Social Night. We hope to have plans for the Social Night planned in advance. From Deputy Grand Knight Rob Gilsdorf Once again the Knights of Columbus came thru! On Sunday, Aug. 9 th, we made the trip to Sandusky to the Veterans home. Thank you to everyone who was able to attend. If you are a Veteran, I m sure that you can only imagine the joy that was present during our visit. The Veterans were delighted to have us all gather them for Mass and fellowship afterwards. Another function that we recently supported was the Seminarian Appreciation Social at the Pines in Fremont. If you didn t make it, you truly missed an inspiring evening meeting all the youthful future priests of the Diocese. I personally talked to a few of the seminarians who all expressed how grateful they were to have us spend the evening with them and get to know them more. Furthermore, we re still recruiting dedicated and enthusiastic men to help at the Mud Hens games. Not surprisingly, football season is around the corner and we will need volunteers to step up for the UT games. Additionally, arrangements have been planned to pray the Rosary before the 9:30 Mass on the last Sunday of the month. The idea of the Knights joining the Parish in a unified Parish Rosary just supports our mission statement. Next, committee directors will have a meeting on the same night as the officers meeting. To end, the Ohio State Council has taken the quote, Through Him, with Him, in Him as a theme for this year s program. Take a few minutes and let these words of inspiration guide you in your life and ministry. This is the moral teaching that we are all expected to uphold as catholic men and women. We can all step back and take a moment to reflect on the guidance and power of these words. Vivat Jesus

2 Ladies Auxiliary KC - ettes by Pam Malone Greetings to all! Hope you have had an enjoyable Summer and that everyone is well. Rob and I had a great experience attending the annual Supreme Convention in Philadelphia in early August. Supreme is the head leadership for the Knights of Columbus. There were over 2,000 people in attendance along with 108 priests, 81 Bishops and 9 Cardinals from around the world! Besides representatives from our United States, all the Provinces of Canada, Guam, Philippines, South Korea, Mexico and Poland were there. Each State, Country or Province designed and brought a pin representing their area and the Knights of Columbus. At a social meeting, the representatives exchange these pins, trying to acquire and exchange as many as they can. Many Knights and their families attend yearly and plan their family vacation to attend. We met many good people! We also met with our past Bishop, the now Archbishop Leonard Blair. It was good to see him and he is doing well. The next Supreme Convention 2016 will be held in Toronto and delegates are elected at the State Convention to be held in Sandusky Spring of It is open to any 3 rd Degree Knight. Ladies we will be back on Tuesday September 8 after Rosary with the men at 6:45. Normally we would meet on Monday, but the 7 th is Labor Day. Come prepared to talk about the White Elephant Soup and Salad. Our date is now October 19 th and is replacing the Knights Social Night. Scout around for your White Elephant items. Think about a charity to donate to and invite your family and friends. See you then! All sizes are available. They are green with beige trim with the K of C emblem with St. Pats Council on the left breast and your name on the right. These shirts are embroidered, not silk-screened. We also have St. Pat s jackets in True Hunter/True Navy in all sizes. Several men and women have already received the first shipment. The jackets have a lightweight fleece lining and are great for Fall and Spring. With a sweater or sweatshirt they can also be worn in all but the coldest temperatures. Prices will be adjusted slightly upwards for shipping on single order items.

3 Field Agent s Report for September 2015 Raising Awareness about Life Insurance Each September since 2003 has been designated as Life Insurance Awareness Month. Like most awarenessraising campaigns, Life Insurance Awareness Month was created because there is an overwhelming lack of understanding of life insurance, its uses, its benefits, and its variations among the general public. Each year, the Life Insurance Market Research Association (LIMRA) puts out the results from a recent survey, and unfortunately, the numbers they report continue to be discouraging. A recent survey found that more that 75 percent of people polled did not have a personal financial advisor, even though 68 percent of them said their opinion of the current economic conditions was somewhat unfavorable or very unfavorable. In other words, a majority of those surveyed were uncomfortable with the economy and the uncertainty it brings, yet they did not seek professional assistance. Maybe they spoke with their friends and family. Maybe they hoped the instability would go away on its own. Maybe they did not know to whom to turn. If you fall into this category, please remember that as a member of the Knights of Columbus, you have a fulltime, professional agent you can call your own. My primary responsibility is the care and service of your family s life insurance, retirement and long-term care needs. I ll answer your questions because I want your decisions to be informed ones. I want to help. Another LIMRA statistic said 43 percent of people did not buy life insurance because they worry about making the wrong decision. Brother Knights & Ladies we have signed up to work the 7 UT Rockets Home Football games. We need workers per game to work efficiently. The first game is September 3. For this game we need to be there at 4:30 to get the stand set up. We will be carpooling from the HFC at 4:00 PM. If you wish to drive yourself, we have parking passes. The next September game is (Sept. 19) the game and is at 8:00 PM with report time being 5:30 PM. We also have games on 9/26, 10/10, 10/17, 11/3 & 11/27. Each game we need to report to the stand 2 ½ hours prior to game time. This is 1 hour before the gates open. Brother Knights and Ladies this is money that your Council can use for many activities for the benefit of the membership. If you are able to work or have questions, please give Ray Darr (419) a call. St. Patrick of Heatherdowns Knights of Columbus Presents THE ROSARY Starting August 30, 9:00 AM There will be the recitation of the Rosary in Church. This will be done on the last Sunday of every month. This is open to everyone in the Parish.

10 2015 PRO Football Frenzy Sweepstakes Fundraiser Copy of Ticket --- EVERY Ticket will have different team combinations Brother Knights, here is a chance for you to make some money for St. Pat s general fund not charity. There are many items that dues just don t cover nor meant to cover. All tickets and money must be turned in by October 28. The Guidelines for the Sweepstakes are listed below. Donations are $10.00 per ticket. Each ticket is valid for the last 10 weeks of the NFL season, starting November 1, 2015 and ending January 3, There are 32 NFL teams. Each week each player has four teams. Each player has new teams each week. No other ticket has the same teams in any given week. Week No. 1 is Nov. 1, Week No. 2 is Nov. 8, Week No. 3 is Nov. 15, etc. A total of $ in prizes are awarded weekly to the ticket holders with the 4 teams that score the most or the least number of points in that given week of games. The scores from the previous week s games will be used for teams that are not scheduled to play on any given week. It makes no difference whether teams win or lose. Total prizes will be $10,000. Tickets can be turned in at any meeting or by contacting Dick but must be turned in no later than October 28, Winners are notified and paid automatically each week by the Ohio State Council. Participants must print legibly their name, address, telephone number, and address, name, and number of the selling Council on the stub. The stub, and $10.00, is turned into the Council. The buyer keeps the remainder of the ticket. There will be winners list posted on
